Jake Fried (b.1984) began his artistic career as a painter, but as he went through the process of layering and modifying images, he realized what truly interested him was the way the images metamorphosed in the course of making a painting and he changed tracks to become an animator. His experimental films have been widely shown internationally, including at the Tate Modern and Sundance Film Festival. He has created commissioned work for clients including Adult Swim, Netflix and Harley-Davidson. Fried uses ink and white-out, sometimes adding gouache, collage and even coffee to generate hallucinatory vistas, modifying and shooting the images over and over to create mind-bending animations that evolve at a frenzied pace. He currently teaches animation at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design in Boston. More at www.inkwood.net

Each album & tape he released he showed growth. He was only 26. Most people still fuckin around with things that aren’t applicable to the world at that age nowadays. His production level was unmatched from how much his brain absorbed in those years. Think about it. 16-26 and this is what we have already.
@@beefarlee within ten years he made more music than some artist make in a life time. I agree he was still growing as an artist and was growing a wider audience with swimming and circles. One thing I've always liked about his music, was that I could relate to it. But as I got older I stopped listening to kids and the highlife mixtape. I'll listen to a few songs but for the most part it's nostalgic. I can't relate to a lot of his earlier work anymore. With swimming and circles. These songs are timeless. Whatever your age, a good chunk of those songs will still hit home in some sort of way. He was just dipping his toes into what could have been with swimming and circles. Personally ive never seen any artist with the ability to write lyrics, play instruments, produce, and sing/rap. With all those talents and the non stop dedication that man had for making the best music, he was in no way close to his peak at only 26 years old. It's just sad to think about.

I think it's interesting how you can directly hear the pain in the lyrics, I loved mac for a long time and always got high to his music.. but I only got sober when he passed because if it could happen to him it could have definitley happened to me, and losing somebody that helped me through so much was too much. Came in I was high already, we on the same trip we just got different baggage, and I gotta thank Mac for saving me from myself

I honestly was late to really dive in and listen to all of his music because in the last year I have found so much that I missed or whatnot to the point I am blown away. He has become one of my favorite hip hop artists and he took so many chances as he grew up physically and emotionally. It hurts to think about the darkness he was going thru but it brought out incredible music that wasn't just one exact genre but still included a whole lot of rapping which is hip hop to me!!

An all time classic Mac verse, this one is so much fun to sing along with and an amazing beat. Mac is one of those artists who has a body of works like an iceberg, his studio albums are the tip that is known widely, but he has entire projects, mixtapes, and unreleased songs that very few ever discover. Also unlike many others, his lesser known stuff is of amazing quality.
I think Mac's family should release all of these hidden gems as full albums
