Excellent video. I am a 64 yr-old comeback player. I have made great progress since I picked up the horn again 2 years ago, but I can't afford to take more lessons now. This is REALLY, helpfull - a lot of tips I didn't know. Thank you so much for serviing your country this way!
For any kids watching this: Range should be secondary to Tone
If you can hit a Double G but sound like crap, it doesn't mean anything.
Tone first, ALWAYS.
But if you have great tone and cant hit above a high C then what haha
@@CDtrumpet5 Lol, everyone thinks they have a ceiling, but usually they just go about "high" notes in the wrong way. Didn't realize until much later that the air and a relaxed embouchure was what gave you high notes. You can do both!
@@CDtrumpet5 i'd recommend looking up info on Bill Adams and his method. One of my college trumpet teachers was a student of his, and he helped me substantially get my mind right, which IMO is the biggest obstacle to consistent upper register. I agree though, I have about the same number of years under my belt and it's still a struggle. However, I'm much more consistent now than I ever have been before.
heh, I like the close up on "fluttering the chops"
One of the best videos on here! All sensible, and well thought out advice. I applaud you.
GOOD ADVICES!!!
I'm a trombonist and find every single bit of this series useful.
thank you such much, you guys rock and you've help me become better and I thank you again.
Very good video!!!
Congratulations!
Excellent point about resting!..
Resting while practicing is essential for the muscle memory to reprogram organicly.
5 minutes on a specific skill like long tones..then rest 5 min..
it works with any skill and was discovered by sports medicine..
works for trumpet hitting a note as well as hitting a baseball with a bat.
try it and see.
This helped me out a ton tysm
Very helpful stuff, thanks.
Very informative video..1:00 is a total Tim and Eric moment.
discipline and patience is important for playing an musical instrument
Very informative, thanks!
W b here did Eddie calv4rt lrarnnto platyt hdtrumpeyb
clark studies FTW!
great video, a little monotone, but very informative.
I really need someone like you guys to coach me...I've been playing for about 7 years and my embouchure has gone some radical changes due to braces and (apparently) incorrect embouchure.
Now, I can hardly play a middle C in staff with a good sound.
I'll be starting to practice with these videos as guidelines now, and hopefully I'll be able to restore my former glory!
“Having great musical skill is useless if you don’t put it into practice”

Oh good, I was looking for a use for that 1.5 inch PVC that I've had sitting around the house.
muito bom o metodo (very good)
to bad these vids arent in 1080P
gracias thanks exelnete video
Great
What did the trumpeter play in the very last bit of the video?
Great bibles that I use daily are Clarkes and Earl D Irons! Saved my ass!!!!
Can some one tell me the name of this song at the beginning of the video?? [2]
What piece is that 0:01
anyone know what piece is playing at the start of this lesson?
Cool. I left a video response too.
Guess the basics can't be over stated. Long low tones with rests in between, and lip slurs never hurt any brass player. But take your time !!!!
what kind of trumpets do you guys use?
I can play C and B an octave below staff, but I can't really play any other notes lower than F below staff. I'm not quite sure how to get any lower.
Practice on the mouth piece, then play the low notes as low as you can go, use less air as you go along, if you can't get lower open your spit key and play lower that could help then once you get a hold of it close the key and play, using very little air. 10 months late but hope this helped.
Sam DeLong yes, it's not a crime to use less air. You're always supposed to have affective and well supported air but it's ok to use less. If you use too much air as you're learning, then you'll over blow and it won't come out. That's where opening the spit valve comes in to let some air out so the notes come out easier and you're introducing your face to that register.
Can some one tell me the name of this song at the beginning of the video??
whats with the uniforms
that was all fine and great stuff but where was the real upper register exercises and endurance becomes another thing what's you are playing up there all the time. Anyone know any good videos or books on playing above a high C to double C.
thanks i have the habbit of pinching my lip with the mouth piece
Works on Mellophone also.
💪
That was pedal tones for trumpet? it's much more drastic on trombone...
I just started playing the trumpet & this is one of my difficulties... I can't hold my notes at the same level & I
Range walk -Left left left left left left left left left left.
Could you specify the mouthpiece??
Whatever you are most comfortable playing with
I'm going to sound really stupid for asking this question, but what actually is the definition of endurance when playing the trumpet? Is it how long you can hold single notes for or is it how long you can play before your lips start to give out and it becomes really hard to play normally?
How long it takes before your chops start to get tired
hi
cringy 2008 video. good advice though.
I really like this lesson, but I am having trouble with the low F note on the 7:25 crescendo.
8 years late but try Low F# but third valve extended
100,000th view!
@Keoni5027 what?
I need to be able to hit a D above the staff in 2 weeks and I can barely play a G. What the hell do I do?
Mia Baker how did it go? I am a ittle late.
Mia Baker I'm at double d
I'm a freshmen and can play a double C as in the second C above the staff
I don't understand the exercise at 2:48
Miguel Rangel So what happens is, you start at G, and work on intervals. G, F# (minor second), then up to G# (major second), down to F (minor third), up to A (major third), down to E, (perfect fourth), etc? Does this help?
It’s the Bill Adam long tone routine. You expand out from middle G chromatically.

the pvc pipe... jeez

lmao
I've been playing trumpet for 10 years and I want to join the Army Band so badly, but my parents will hate me if I go.
Thats was pretty funny. Umm no thanks.
There really needs to be a female trumpet just an idea....
Just stop, that's not relevant or necessary
There really needs to be less ignorant comments just an idea....
When Feminazis take over
There really needs to be infinite amounts of money in my bank account, but we can't have everything we want, can we.
