    Excellent video. I am a 64 yr-old comeback player. I have made great progress since I picked up the horn again 2 years ago, but I can't afford to take more lessons now. This is REALLY, helpfull - a lot of tips I didn't know. Thank you so much for serviing your country this way!

    For any kids watching this: Range should be secondary to Tone
    If you can hit a Double G but sound like crap, it doesn't mean anything.
    Tone first, ALWAYS.

      @CDtrumpet5 Před 4 lety

      But if you have great tone and cant hit above a high C then what haha

    • @freyafreyat
      @freyafreyat Před 4 lety

      @@CDtrumpet5 Lol, everyone thinks they have a ceiling, but usually they just go about "high" notes in the wrong way. Didn't realize until much later that the air and a relaxed embouchure was what gave you high notes. You can do both!

    • @freyafreyat
      @freyafreyat Před 4 lety

      @@CDtrumpet5 i'd recommend looking up info on Bill Adams and his method. One of my college trumpet teachers was a student of his, and he helped me substantially get my mind right, which IMO is the biggest obstacle to consistent upper register. I agree though, I have about the same number of years under my belt and it's still a struggle. However, I'm much more consistent now than I ever have been before.

    Excellent point about resting!..
    Resting while practicing is essential for the muscle memory to reprogram organicly.
    5 minutes on a specific skill like long tones..then rest 5 min..
    it works with any skill and was discovered by sports medicine..
    works for trumpet hitting a note as well as hitting a baseball with a bat.
    try it and see.

    I really need someone like you guys to coach me...I've been playing for about 7 years and my embouchure has gone some radical changes due to braces and (apparently) incorrect embouchure.
    Now, I can hardly play a middle C in staff with a good sound.
    I'll be starting to practice with these videos as guidelines now, and hopefully I'll be able to restore my former glory!

    I can play C and B an octave below staff, but I can't really play any other notes lower than F below staff. I'm not quite sure how to get any lower.

    • @demetriussheats9926
      @demetriussheats9926 Před 6 lety

      Practice on the mouth piece, then play the low notes as low as you can go, use less air as you go along, if you can't get lower open your spit key and play lower that could help then once you get a hold of it close the key and play, using very little air. 10 months late but hope this helped.

    • @demetriussheats9926
      @demetriussheats9926 Před 6 lety

      Sam DeLong yes, it's not a crime to use less air. You're always supposed to have affective and well supported air but it's ok to use less. If you use too much air as you're learning, then you'll over blow and it won't come out. That's where opening the spit valve comes in to let some air out so the notes come out easier and you're introducing your face to that register.

    I'm going to sound really stupid for asking this question, but what actually is the definition of endurance when playing the trumpet? Is it how long you can hold single notes for or is it how long you can play before your lips start to give out and it becomes really hard to play normally?

      Miguel Rangel So what happens is, you start at G, and work on intervals. G, F# (minor second), then up to G# (major second), down to F (minor third), up to A (major third), down to E, (perfect fourth), etc? Does this help?
