Unlock Vintage Magic: Introducing the 1970s String Machines Collection for Korg Modwave!

- Welcome to my latest Korg Modwave collection! This is the 1970s String Machines collection for the Modwave. Back in the early 1970s, polyphonic synthesizers were extremely expensive, heavy, and unreliable. Musicians wanted a simple machine for recreating the expensive real string sections.
This led to a range of instruments that produced lush ensemble-sounding machines, which were based on organ-style divide-down technology. While they were ultimately replaced by affordable poly synths, they still have a unique sound.
This collection recreates the classic sounds of the Solina String Ensemble, Korg Delta, Korg Trident (a multi-instrument machine with a string section), Roland VP-330 (with Human Voice Choir sound), and Elka sounds.
There are over 40 performances and programs enabling you to recreate the string sounds of Jean-Michel Jarre, Pink Floyd, and Vangelis. There are string sounds, vocal sounds, and even Celeste and the occasional brass sound.
To get started with the sounds, simply download the zip file, open it up, and import the bundle file into the Modwave, Modwave MkII, Modwave Rack, or Modwave Native.

Hi Ian. Thank you for your amazing work with all those incredible Modwave patches. You really should consider doing a partnership with Korg, because i'm about to buy a Modwave just because of you.
Please tell Korg :) Glad you like the sounds, I still have a few more collections in the works.
What a happy coincidence: my favorite little synthesizer beast from KORG has the most dedicated exclusive sound designer on CZcams! I'm so happy to have discovered this channel and soak up every new video with great pleasure. Thank you so much, Ian!
Spectacular Again
Many thanks!
Un grand merci pour ce superbe travail.
Many thanks
You announced it last week. This is really a surprise. Amazing work! I have a Behringer VC340 but this is a great addition. Thnx!
I hope you get some use out of them!
@@IanDixonTDL The presets are great. I notice in the video you have also some sets of D20, Fairlight, motion and ESQ1. Are these also free sets or paid ones. Is there a place where I can find them?
The Fairlight is something to keep an eye out for but are not ready yet. The other sets are work in progress.
@@IanDixonTDL oh cool. Sorry I didn’t know.
Great video Ian. Can hear echo’s of fade to grey & oxygen and I feel love strings here 🎶
Many thanks!
@@IanDixonTDLYou’re Welcome 😊
I own the Korg Symphony-03 Orchestra module. Bought it new in 1988! Still have it in 2024. The choir patch is outstanding!
I had never heard of one of them, just Googled it and it says the sounds are in the virtual M1 so I am going to have to check that out.
Just listened to a demo of the Symphony-03 and the M1 VST has a Choir and two Chorus samples that sound just like it. I used the Choir sample in my M1 colletion so you can get close to it on the Modave.
lovely stuff - you just got yourself another subscriber 👍
Thank you so much!
You've done it again - these sound fantastic! Your presets are proof that if you dive into these synthesizers you can create anything. I've been using an old vst plugin called algomusic string synth but your modwave string synth sounds absolutely bury that plugin.
Thanks, string machines are pretty unquie.
Ordered the desktop unit. Can’t wait to apply some Ian Dixon magic.
You are going to love your modwave
What country are you from? Which supplier did you order it from? And what's the expected lead time? I sold my classic Modwave and Wavestate and ordered the desktop versions. In France it won't be before end of may 😢
Hi Ian, are there any musical synth sounds that can't be reproduced with the Modwave? Really nice once more!
I don't think there are!
Hi Ian. Another great collection. I couldn’t help but notice in your collections tab there’s one called ID Fairlight. Is this something you’re working on, as I’ve been looking for something like that since I bought my Modwave?
Well spotted :) Yes its something I am working on. Unlike the other collections these use samples from the orignal Fairlight that I imported, which is a bit of an issue with sharing files as I didn't create the samples.
@@IanDixonTDLI don’t think anyone would come after you for that. The Fairlight archive has been going for quite some time! (One frustration with the samples there is that they don’t seem to have the loop points set in the wav files, which is a bit annoying. And… I can’t find that wonderful resource at the moment… 🤔)
These patches sound very nice! They got nothing to do with the sounds they're supposed to replicate, but they sound great nevertheless.
Thanks, divide down is hard to reproduce on a modern synth but getting close was fun.
Is this collection working with the wavestate or is only for modwave?
Its modwave only but I do plan a Wavestate version at some point. I do have a new Fairlight set for the Wavestate out on Friday
My new Fairlight collection for the Wavestate is out czcams.com/video/hTHB5X-PXu4/video.html
