- Swedish director Ingmar Bergman was born and spent much of his youth in Uppsala, Sweden, which also served as the location of many exteriors for his semi-autobiographical film Fanny and Alexander.
David Friend reflects on a few of the standout locations in the area that are tied to Bergman.
Friend is embarking on watching all of Bergman's films alongside co-host Sonia Strimban for the series Breaking Down Bergman. Find out more on the main channel: / breakingdownfilms

I grew up in Uppsala and went to school there. I guess I must've taken it for granted at the time because after living many years abroad, your video has reminded me of the city's beauty.
One of my philosophy professors in the 1950s was J.A. Teddy Brunius. He was a brilliant teacher and he and some of the other faculty members would invite me along to go into town for a beer and good conversation. I wanted to visit Prof. Brunius in Uppsala on one of my trips to Europe (1969 and 1976), but I was escourting my Norwegian in-laws and family on 30-day tours and we just ran out of time. Uppsala is an exciting and historic city. I doubt if Prof. Brunius would still be around. I'm 86 myself! Well, he would be over 90, at the minimum.. Perhaps one of our viewers will know.
Cool..
wow i just found out I'm swedish
Are you in Uppsala, still?
No, I was only visiting for a day. - David
