    Coming up with a solution for my drill storage problem. I used to keep half of my drills in a plastic bag and the others in an annoying plastic box. Both of those were really slow, frustrating and not very professional solutions. Especially as the drills constantly bumping into each other will eventually get dull. So I came up with a solution that allows for easy access to the drills, visualizes their sizes and forces me to keep everything in order.

    Pretty cool design. I also used a 6mm air soft BB. But I see quite a bit of wear. I'm curious how smoothly yours works in a year and if it holds up better

    It's funny how a few hours after this was uploaded, scoutcrafter uploaded a video showing a Millers Falls push drill from the 1950s with a similar solution for bit storage in the handle. The video title is "Rare New York Multitool and Millers Falls Buck Rogers No. 100" and the section is about 9 minutes in, if you're curious. I'm surprised this idea isn't more widespread!

    I have a screwdriver that holds bits in a similar way. However, each spot and in between each spot is detented so you don't have to line up the hole by eye and you are always 1 click away from "closed".

    What hex dril bits do you have there ?

  • @gianlucasalvador3691
    @gianlucasalvador3691 Před 3 lety +1

    Awesome! Just one question: is there a specific reason that you did not make a dent for each drill bit position?
    In your solution once you have taken a drill bit, the ring is free to move and you have to place the ring in the "park" position to be sure that nothing drop out by accident.
    Instead if there is the same dent for each drill opening you can take your bit and leave it open at that position for when you will put it back in place being sure that nothing moves...

    • @hansdietrich83
      @hansdietrich83 Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, one click per bit would be much better

    • @BuntUndStereo
      @BuntUndStereo Před 3 lety

      Personally, I think it's not really necessary. Might even be annoying in daily usage. And obviously you would have to make sure each dent is located perfectly to align the holes for each bit, not just one to align it in the 'closed' position. I do see the benefit of nothing falling out by accident, but I think the spring pressure might help with keeping the selector wheel in position, at least somewhat.

    • @CosmasBauer
      @CosmasBauer  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes, there is just not enough space to to get one click per bit. You would really have to leave one of the positions "blind" and even then, you would have to increase the diameter by quite a bit. And I decided that it's just not worth the tradeoff. You could probably get away by using a significantly smaller bb but then wear on the plastic parts increases and getting the detent work just right gets much more tricky. But I'm sure it could be done!

    • @gianlucasalvador3691
      @gianlucasalvador3691 Před 3 lety

      @@CosmasBauer Thanks, I knew there was a good reason for that!

  • @AdityaMehendale
    @AdityaMehendale Před 3 lety

    There is a saying that "The enemy of _good_ is _better_ " - nevertheless I can't but help wonder "How could this be better?"
    If there were a peep-hole for each bit whereby you could quickly inspect if the container is full (of if a drill is missing) that would be better!
    Also, perhaps a secondary detent for each hole?
