Was very rare to see Maradona involved in a fight like that, inside a soccer stadium. This reaction was absolutely linked to the kick that Goikoetxea gave him some month earlier that broke his ankle in two.
Maradona was a little upstart yes he was the greatest ever at the time BUT he was also a trouble maker too that's the difference between him & Lionel Messi & why Messi stands out as the GOAT
Why don't you try the experiment of an other player break your ankle in two pieces an then measure the level of your anger agaist that guy!!! tell us about iT!!! Don't be inocent!!! That was the only situation that Maradona loose his temper like that even loosing more important games than the "copa del rey" final!!! Great years of Maradona occurred in Italy!!!
So I read, I don't know, that Goixcochea broke Maradona's ankle months earlier so when Barca and Bilbao met again, it was a big grudge match. ---------------------------- Check what a Brazil player did against Tab Ramos in 1994: that's about as dirty as anything.
I don,t have to b around Maradona to know he had a controversial personal life, everybody knew Maradona's addiction to cocaine. So tell me now any other incident inside a football ground compare to this one that Maradona was envolved, even loosing matches as the world cup final 1990 against Germany. The vasc defenders including THE BUTCHER OF BILBAO kept kicking him even after he recovered from his doble fracture month before!!! Please watch this match again and don't b blind!!!
As i said , you did not watch the game....i did. and what you say it's just not true. Bilbao and barsa were playing an average game but bilbao played slightly better and got the barsa team very frustrated. However, after that game and the incidents there was real bad blood between barsa and Athletic, one clear example is Maradona and Goiko (butcher of bilbao). Do not dare to mix up injuring supporters and playing football as at the end of the day its just an sport and nothing else
I know very well Bilbao and even for people who born there but for some reason they don't speak euskera they have less oportunity at the moment to find a job. So think now how it is for people from other nationalities. By the way! my post was an answer for a bilbao fan who called Maradona a "sudaka" and everybody who support him a "sudaka supporter "
The same mentality have the person who forbid the euskera language and the one who deny a job possition because the person don't speak euskera language without taking in consideration the skills of that person. that's racism my friend.
i think you probably have no clue at all on what happened at that game. It was Copa del Rey fianl which Bilbao won 1-0 with a goal from Endika. Many Barsa players could not bear the fact of losing the game (migueli, swster and maradona) and nearly at theend of the game...that happened. Even some Bilbao supporters got injured. maradona was an outstanding player, probably one of the best but as a person...he was a sore loser and a nasty little bastard.
hey Listen- I was part of the security detail assign to him in both barcelona and Naples, and the guy was high all the time and very much out of control. His public image was manicured for a while but even the Spin doctors could not cover it up at the end
Bioinicgreen... I think that maradona loose his temper because he was high on a lot of different shit that week. He had a couple of altercations in barcelona the week before and some of his commentary in the week prior to the game were pretty incendiary. That year was to be the last of the great years for Maradona.
Beach soccer !!!That's pure bullshit!!! Franco Baresi, Antonio Cabrinni, Mitchel Platini, Socrates, Zico, Paulo Falcao, Hans-Peter Briegel, Paolo rossi,Claudio Gentille, etc,etc some of them consider by FIFA the strongest defenders in soccer history!! all this players dosn't mean nothing 2 you? Champions League Finals 1983 ( Hamburgo vs Juventus ) 1984 ( Liverpool F.C vs Roma ) 1985 ( Juventus vs Liverpool F.C) UEFA CUP 1089 - Napoli Your opinion is useless without information!!!
And Italy by his own admission was not up to par with the rest of europe at the time. He compare it to playing beach football. It was his pinnacle because there was not competition. and he took cuts on salary just to play. In my opinion 2nd or 3rd best player in the world... but a real ass

Never knew Maradona was a MMA fighter. Looks like Bilbao got their asses kicked.
