In US news and current events today, Democratic party freshman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez grilled Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about Facebook ads for politicans. Like she did with big pharma and Facebook Libra in the past, AOC presented tough questions. This NowThis News video shows it was one of the most electric congressional hearings in quite some time.

Zuckerberg is actually right. If Trump promoted his Colorado wall, would you want FB to stop that? The ad would serve as proof that he’s a lying president. If you found out, “FB stops ad of Trump stating he doesn’t know where Colorado is,” you would suddenly say, FB is defending Trump. This is why context matters. Whereas, an incorrect election date isn’t a lie towards a candidate, it’s a lie directly to the FB community, so that would have to be stopped. Racist or violent ads would be as well.
It isn’t black or white, it’s very gray. And that’s why Zuckerberg couldn’t answer.

He doesn’t say that Fb will even flag the ad as a lie. The only thing Fb will do is take down ads or content that “is calling for violence, or could risk imminent physical harm, or voter or census suppression.” Mark is pretty much saying if the ad is a lie, then the people should see for theirselves that that person is lying and spreading misinformation or whatever. That being said, like I said most people will not research whether what they read is true or false. That’s what happened in the 2016 election and in everyday life in general. Many people will believe what they read is true. Most people are not thinking about who is the source? what is the source’s objective? Is this a reliable source? Do they have evidence to back up what has been stated?

Ok, I'm for both sides. She did ask good questions, but she Also didn't let him answer correctly and would cut him off. All these politicians ask a lot of yes or no question, the fact of the matter is that these questions are not just yes or no. He stated if the content is pushing hate or any immediate danger they will take it down, but if it's just hear say they won't. He also tried to explain that it depends on the post if it's an organic post ( not an ad) they won't take it down, because they are untitled to say what they want to say and Facebook would look bad taking post down. Now it's different if you're paying for ads. Also with targeting specific demographics, Facebook has done alot of changes where you can't target that specifically. I run Facebook ads for many businesses and see that they don't. Also with the white supremacy questions, he literally answered it saying they don't choose the fact checkers and it is chooses by an independent organization. But she goes ahead and blames him. Now to end it, Facebook is an option you have the option to go on and go off. If you don't like what you see get off. I understand some stuff is misleading and they do try at points to mitugate that, but the idea of a government trying to shut down a company for stuff like this is more scary than Facebook trying to stay a business.

But have to actually be explained, also seeing as facebook is used by millions, posts and ads are added probably millions per second. Thats hard to keep up and track every single thing. As in anything else could do they better sure but at the sametime people need to do their own research on matters to see if it actually is real or seemingly "fake news". This just seems like another case or people blaming a platform rather than being accountable for their actions, since its an easier target.

This is way too spliced and edited to give any fair impression of what Zuckerberg had to say. He could have derailed his own testimony if she hadn't interrupted him so many times, just saying. Not a fan of Zuckerberg by any means but AOC has a lot to learn about interrogating a witness; especially a well prepared witness who also happens to be a genius. To get anything out of this, skip biased video editors and go to the full testimony. The problems with Facebook are deeper than this surface level treatment.

The question is (as always) who gets to decide. In this case who decides which information is a "lie", because an untrue statement is not necessarily a lie and not every untrue statement is ill-intended. Further more, language is not that simple, we use hyperbole, sarcasm and irony all the time.
