Well done everyone,educational as usual!
I was lucky enough to cross the channel in one of those hovercraft way back in I think the 1980s.The mention of flying across isn't all that far fetched.They were treated as aeroplanes with flight numbers and when we got the pre-flight PA announcement from the Captain he welcomed us aboard and told us we'd be flying at a height of six inches and our flight time would be thirty five minutes.

i flew from pegwell bay a few times and remember the LIDO when it had the swimming pool and divingboards and in use back in the mid 1970
yes it was the SRN 4 hovercraft with hover loyed
