I’m working on a frozen in time explosion that could easily become a slo mo explosion, it’s all done in blender with a bunch of simulations and confusing modifiers tho
that's pretty ambitious. Did you use a 3rd party plugin for the juice/liquid?

I have a 3D tracked version of mine that works well
And if you are trying to do juice or liquids in blender it’s really easy, if you have the money to buy flip fluids or are willing to lower the quality you can use a fluid simulation within blender and just freeze it. Otherwise you can use meatballs which are super easy to use and there are plenty of good tutorials about them. All particles and simulations in blender can be slowed down with the time feature or by rendering them in a high frame rate and slowing it down in aftereffects or something.

This is a great tutorial on setting up fire and smoke within a particle system. The wood chips needed a better texture on them though. They looked too cartoony next to the explosion.

The part I am most interested in didn’t make it into the tutorial. How did you accomplish the shattering gift box that happened as Dr. Slow entered the room before the full explosion occurred?
The gift box was photographed from 3 different angles and we loosely mapped those images onto a beveled rectangle in C4D (if you pause it you can see the mapping isn't flush). Then we used a cloth simulation with pressure and tear to get the box to explode. The explosion sim was done separately and placed inside the cloth sim using a Z Pass

I Am using max but learning houdini now as it doesn't need any plugins to do everything so it is a way way cheaper

How did you get the smoke around the explosion to distort when Dr.Slow run through it?
It was one of the most wisp effects from back when we did that killer frost stuff, recolored to match the fire.

Can you do a FULL nanotech effect? I mean can it be another transformation effect that’s a full body instead of an arm and head. I mean one person stands in front of a villain wearing their own clothes and then it does a nanotechy effect while it changes into a super suit

We are considering doing some Premiere tuts in the future, but that software is far more limited when it comes to compositing, tracking and adding FX

I made a student film using this technique (superspeed) and adapting it in my own way, please take a second and check it out.
Smoke is bad for slow motion. And it also didn't appear in first micro seconds
guys, please slow down with tutorials, you are moving too fast, we are not so advanced :)
Maybe you can create some tutorials for beginners
Hey Ivanov, the SaturdayMorningTutorials are definitely geared more towards advanced VFX artists, they do contain all the information you need, but we like to go fairly fast since many of our viewers have a good grasp of the basics.
