    Your building must have a metal roof that would explain why it's so hot in there. Looking at that Mini after you stripped it I would be devastated but good on you for taking it in your stride. Cheers!

      @@SimpsonsClassics Yeah I bet! To see something done to that level is great hey. I had a similar buzz the other month when the guy who has the tesla powered mini was at our club show, (his mini was featured on Petrol Peds CZcams channel) And he took several of us round the showground for a spin...it was weirdly silent and bloody quick!!

    Remember to utilise roof space if you can and are allowed to by the buildings owner, simple sub floor accessed by a ladder. many people overlook overhead storage.

    This was one of my favourite parts of restoration, the strip down, very theraputic just taking everything off. Now that its stripped it doesn't look as bad as in the previous video, the back end is remarkably good, the front, pretty much as expected.

    Starting on a similar road with a 1990 Mayfiar. Car is stripped and Rotisserie will arrive in the next couple of days. Got to start the long road of orderin panels. Currently has oversills that look OK but will have to peel them off and have a look and replace. Want to keep panel costs down - Needs full front end , 1 full rear quarte and one quater repair. Rear boot sub fron=me support repair etc etc which panels do you recommend for hassel free fit (if there is such a thing) great content ,will keep watching - - BTW never done this kind of thing before! have all the gear and no idea

      Hey David, firstly thank you for watching, it sounds like you have a exciting project ahead of you, I would say panel wise stick to heritage as much as you can that will make your lift easier fitting them if its your first time. M-machine are a great company for floor panels etc also, so check them out. All the best with the project any questions fire away :)

Got to patch up rear shelf first to fit rotisserie because previous owners (there have been 20!) have used a can opener to remove 2 large sections for speakers . Bought got 1mm few mild steel .

    So my '71 Mini will be having the outer/inner front wings, most of the right a-pillar redone, some of the left a-pillar done, door skins, and a complete floor. I have about a decade of restoration experience, but none of it on Mini's. My boot floor is good so I'm planning to make a jig to locate the heelboard from the rear subframe mounts, and then brace the car internally similar to what you did on the '89. Would you do the front sheetmetal/a-pillars first then the floor?

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  Před rokem

      Oh wow sounds like you have a proper restoration on the car there and very nice being a 71 lovely year of mini. Yea I would most likely start with the frame/pillars and then sort the floor. Just make sure you brace the car as much as you can. All the best with your project and thanks for watching 👍

    • @rennkafer13
      @rennkafer13 Před rokem

      @@SimpsonsClassics thank you for the reply! Yes it's definitely going to be a proper restoration, no point doing a few patches only to have the same problem in a few years. And since I can do the work myself, it's not quite as bad financially. Shipping new Heritage panels across the pond at the moment isn't free though.

    Hi Marc, I have a new roof to replace my holey clubman roof, and wanted to know if I should spot weld it on, or whether I can get away with plug welding? I have already removed old roof completely. Keen to hear if you or anyone has plug welded one on and how hard it might have been grinding welds in the gutters? Cheers from NZ!

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  Před rokem +1

      Hey I would definitely try and get it spot welded on it would be neater and take you less time. Like you say grinding back the welds might be an issue. The roof skins were roller welded from new as your probably know if you have removed yours. All the best with your project 👍
