@SS G I'm sure you're right about Punjabis. But Bengalis also feel the same pain. My own grandparents had to flee from their home which was in today's Bangladesh and had to rebuild their lives from the scratch in India. We grew up hearing the stories of partition and for some reason even I feel the pain as well.

These may sound to you like "Tappay " but they are not.. At least in this song.
I don't think you guys understand Punjabi so let me elaborate.... In a nutshell this song is about the pain of partition elaborated by lines like " Ravi to chinab poochda Kee haal ey satluj da" meaning our home was divided and what was integral to our home /to this land Punjab, also got divided hence the river example ( rivers in India asking the well-being of rivers in Pakistan) because Lahore and Peshawar today are too far and our limits are only till wagha border.
Also it is asking the youth not to forget the past and to build on what you have, instead of adopting everything new at the cost of forgetting ( our culture, traditions, clothing etc) the past.

Imposing Hindi in India - how so? I speak Hindi, English, Punjabi, Gujarati and Kannada ( which I have largely now forgotten ) ..none of which was imposed on me or any of my family ( extended included) ...pakistan may have imposed Urdu but Hindi has never been imposed on anyone in India.. Absolutely not.
Exodus - when did that happen.. Did our family , and all the people I know miss out?? Sikhs in general have an itch to go abroad which is a fact... And we Punjabi's like to show off .. The younger generation ( from overseas) when they come to India feel.ashamed to speak Punjabi, wear traditional stuff.... And think it's cool to speak English or dress western!!

You failed to understand the depth and pain of tappa. Punjab is derived from two words punj+aab ( five waters), which means Punjab is the land of five waters. These five waters are ravi, chenab, beas, satluj & jhelum. Ravi and chenab are in pakistan punjab and asking the wellbeing of satluj which is in punjab, india. The whole tappa is about India and pakistan punjab
