    Hey Justin,
The song is basically about how the traditional Punjabi culture is slowly fading away due to influences of the Western world. I feel like the point they’re trying to make is that there still is value to be found in old traditions.

The only way to describe this would be:
Imagine if Elvis Presley collaborated with Micheal Jackson for a one off live session, singing Hound Dog 30 years after its release ...
... this is why every music style, east, west, whatever colour, creed, culture or religion is feeling this performance.
Gurdass Maan is the legacy star of Punjabi music, Diljit Dosanjh is this generations superstar.

This song is just so iconic not only because it is Diljit and Gurdas Maan but because of its message. You need to listen with subtitles or something because it is talking about how people have lost their touch with their culture, following the split of India and it is so beautiful!!
I literally grew up on Gurdas Maan and Harbhajan Maan{WHO IS AMAZING AS WELL} because my grandfather just adored them so much.

    @ranvirgrewal Před 3 lety +56

The lyrics are super emotionally charged for those of us from Punjab - whether you’re Pakistani or Indian - culturally we have more in common than in difference.
The connection between Diljeet and Gurdas Maan would be the equivalent of you signing with Sinatra or Elvis or even MJ. Diljeet is literally singing alongside the guy who probably inspired him to become a singer. GM is a godfather and yes Diljeet is amazing and super talented - one day maybe you’ll see him mentoring and singing next to a younger generation singer.
The song is about a lot of emotionally difficult topics that aren’t really discussed because of the painful history. It’s about the partition of India into india and Pakistan where the border was drawn right the middle of the Punjab region turning Sikh Hindu and Muslim brothers and sisters into enemies over night. The bloodshed. The betrayal felt on both sides of the border. The regret that we let it happen. Maybe now we understand a bit better why farmers in India are uniting to stand against the government. We know what happens if you just go along and going back will never be an option.
The second part of the song is about losing your culture. It’s part of our culture to embrace other cultures when we immigrate to other countries. That’s why Punjabis particularly become pillars of the communities they live in anywhere in world. But the song suggests that by embracing other cultures we should not lose ours. We should embrace and retain. Because they can co-exist as long as we lead with love and compassion.
I don’t do it justice however - you’ll need to do the research for yourself. Just my 2 cents.
Peace, love and respect to all. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming!

Gurdas Maan is a legendary Punjabi singer and Diljit Dosanj is an upcoming Punjabi singer popular in both traditional and Pop songs!!! You should react to morephnjabi songs, especially the femal singers. Some songs I would recommend are Panjaben by shivjot and Punjabi Mutiyara by Jasmin Sandlas

The song is about how The Partition of India and Pakistan back in 1947 made The Punjabis suffer as a line was drawn at the heart of Punjab. And how much Punjabis from both ends miss each other and despise the Partition as it was truly unfair for them.
The song also tells about how The Western Culture is destroying the centuries old values and traditions. E.g: traditional clothing, traditional jewels, mother tongue, folk song etc.
    At 7:54 he said:
“It is important to learn other languages, but without forgetting our own.
Lets not lose what we have, by looking at what others have, because no good has ever come from it.”

I’ve watched this one a bunch of times. The composer, Satinder Shah, has written a large number of Diljit’s best songs. Diljit is my favorite under 40 singer after Shreya. His time and vocal phrasing are amazing. A few years ago I got into the habit of cranking his tunes in the car with my teenage daughters in the back. They were groovin’, which is more than I can say for a lot of the other stuff I play...
