Here's a video review of Atari's TX-1 arcade from 1983. This is a racing game in the style of Pole Position but it's a little more realistic and it features three monitors. It's a cockpit style arcade game and it's frickin' huge! This game was created by Tatsumi and licensed to NAMCO. NAMCO licensed this game to ATARI for distribution in the U.S. The TX-1 portion of this video was filmed at Funspot in Weirs Beach, NH.
After we visit Funspot we'll head to the garage where we'll have the first installment of my Centuri/Konami Gryuss restore. Two vids in one!

Wow. I have a Gyruss cabinet in about the same condition that I need to restore. Plan on watching every gyruss video you have, see if I can follow some of your advice. My game is working but horrible burnin, and bezel needs replacement and plexi needs replacement and paint on cabinet (like i said, like yours!)
I fixed it some time ago. It was a resistor on the monitor chassis.

Awesome, I'd love to have a Gyruss cab! I love Centuri's games, especially Track & Field! I can't wait to see how it turns out!
For those extra holes int he coin door, since the metal is smooth in those spots I would recommend taking it to a body shop and seeing if they can weld plugs in those holes and grind/sand it smooth.
Yes, the attract mode is SUPER annoying. I am gonna turn it off when it's in the basement, it's just too much. I have it on right now for testing purposes to make sure the sound was working.

When you go to an arcade you should press every red button in the joint. You can find anywhere from 5 - 8 quarters most of the time. If you are lucky you can get a really rich one that has dozens of coins stuck that come tumbling out.
The holes in the cone door with out welding and grinding :) you can glue a good size plate on the back with strong adhesive, epoxy or something and fill in the front door with bono or puddy what ever you like to work with sand out and repaint the door :)

Kool ,, love watching restore vids the best of all. I have alot to learn. But there is a guy i know with several old arcades in his garage. He is just waiting for me to come and fix them. Most of them he wants to sell. All of them need Some kind of work. Ofcoarse then i must find buyers! I know we will not get rich ,but i enjoy this shit!! Peace out long live Arcades!!!! He has a Pole Position,After Burner, 2 Tetris machines,Lethal Enforcers 2, Bubble Balls,Klax,Panic Gals 2. Just to name a few
I totally agree with keeping it all original and what not like with me MK2 machine I didn't replace anything it has cigarette burns which I think adds charm to it and I am nostalgic for it because that reminds me of the mk 2 machine I played on back in the day.
John..i think the shifter wasn't working on that TX-1 in the arcade! Soundded like it was stuck in LOW gear!!! lol
you should totally sample the qbert cab glitching out and use it for your band intro ;-)
John, if you plan on doing a total restore on this machine, You should think about doing a little series on your channel.

What a beautiful project you got, there. Looking forward to seeing it's restoration. I wonder if there were any kinds of monitors that found a way around those long term screen burn-in issues? And, does Gyruss have DIP switches that deactivate the audio attract mode? As wonderful as that sound track is, fighting it as you film might be an issue.
Next time that guy plays TX-1, he should try shifting the car out of low gear. At full song, you should be hitting 420 km/h - he didn't even hit 300.

I played this exact game last Saturday and the issue was that the shifter was actually broken and stuck in low gear. So it wasn't John's friend's fault. There were a number of games at Funspot that weren't working properly.
maybe you can use some kinda paint thiner to get the paint soft up and try to push it to the scrachis ?

Pole Position sequels were Final Lap 1 2 and 3
I never understood how the red buttons on coin doors work. It seeems like they release stray coins (like if someone didn't insert enough credits before leaving) but all of those kinds of coin doors I've seen, they don't do anything.
It's kind of surprising how the programming of arcade games never seemed to make any effort to prevent burning the screen in their attract mode.
You need to add a terminator 2 and a mortal kombat cabinets to your collection.
I'm swapping the tube so it's not an issue. :)

They release jammed coins that are stuck in the mech.
I suggest checking Craig's List every day, scope out eBay, and be prepared to jump on the deal. Klov.com is also a great resource. Join the forums there and check out the for sale threads.
When it's done, that Gyruss in the "gay-raj" is going to look absolutely fabulous "dah-ling"! ;)

Ideas!? Yes! You need to check Craig's List every single day multiple times a day for a cheap game. If you keep looking, you'll find one. Have your parents help you and figure out what you can spend and how far you can travel. It's possible to get games for $50-$100 on Craig's List. Also, if you see a game you like on CL but it has been on CL for a long time, make a lower offer.

John, seriously, kill the sound autoplay on your band's website. There's no visible play/pause/volume function ANYWHERE ON THE WEBSITE and as much as I am interested in hearing your music, I found myself frantically searching for the tab close button.
