The release button does not work unless the stretcher detects that the wheels of the stretcher are on the ground. This is one of the few flaws of this design, where ambulances with taller boxes parked on hills sometimes make it hard for the stretcher wheels to hit the ground. This requires you to have to pull up on the wheels, as if you were trying to retract them into the stretcher. This tricks the system into thinking the wheels are on the ground
im not a paramedic or an EMT but i have to agree with you on this one because the manual ones are a lot harder to operate but the motorized ones are alot easier to operate than the manual ones for obvious reasons because instead of having to do all of that heavy lifting you can just press a button and that's it the motor does all of the hard work all the emts have to do is press a button and bam gurney loaded safely into the ambulance easy peasy
