    The Atari Jaguar was arguably a British console - it was developed in Cambridge by Flare Technologies.

      True.

      Hmmmmm ... Yes very arguable!! :) Whilst the design was based on the Flare II which was designed in Cambridge (and we ALWAYS love to fly the Cambridge flag), it was bought out by the mighty Atari corporation and implemented from there. So ... reluctantly ... in our opinion ... that doesn't count as a British console ... Sorry about that :)

    Apparently Burnin Rubber is a quick adaption from Ocean's CPC version of "WEC Le Mans". It certainly bears some similarity. The CPCplus range certainly was the base for the GX4000, but unfortunately not many games used the advanced features of the CPCplus, as developers just targeted the earlier CPC range

    The Amstrad was great. I was a Spectrum kid growing up and loved it, but a friend in school had the cpc and the graphics blew my mind when I'd go around to his house!.

    This video was spectacular and made my night. Watching you go from profane frustration at the RoboCop 2 game to the utter bafflement at the Bridge simulator was too much fun. Thank you!

    "Let's go back to playing Burnin' Rubber" - I quite enjoyed this game. I got the console from Dixons in Southend for £30 when they were being discontinued. I managed to get Barbarian II for it too but I really hated that game!

    What to do with a GX4000 console? Well, you could play some of the new games being developed for it.

  • @deadcentre-retro-meaningma6209

    Sega Master System is arguably the best 8-bit machine ever made. Wonder Boy was basically arcade perfect.

    great video, but you should output the game in the video itself too.. so we can see stuff properly.
    like a window on the corner of the video. to keep watching the tv ouput while you talk.

    Mr Clive Sinclair Jr saying the master system wasn't particular brilliant. Well, while the nes have more classics because of their anti-competitive behavior, the master system was a solid machine. I'm not talking up the previous attempts though. Phantasy Star, Prince of Persia, Wonderboy 3, AK in Miracle world, Psycho Fox, Ninja Gaiden, Outrun, Road Rash and backports like Streets of Rage 2, Castle of Illusion, Sonic..etc.

      I take particular offense to being compared to Clive Sinclair just because I'm balding...
      Sega did brilliantly in the 80-90s before going completely insane -- but I'm not going to pretend the Master System was a massive success outside of the UK/Brazil. It was a placeholder product before their winning 16-bit range was introduced 😃

    Burning Rubber is definately a 'poor mans OutRun'! Love the humour - all/two (same difference)!

    GX is certainly one of the most attractive looking consoles. Reminds me on a Cylon ship from old Battlestar Galactica. Insides, not that good. :)

      The insides aren't as bad as the rushed software made it look. Take a look at Golem13's port of Ghosts 'n' Goblins for instance.

    All the British game consoles but no mention of the game system that came out to play against the PS3. Yep, the GameStick. Now sadly defunct they hit upon this great idea to make phone games come to your tv. It was also the most portable ever as it was only on a stick! Wow. Well not really. By the time it came out the next gen of phones had come out also. So it could not run a lot more of the games. Also people wondered why they had to buy the same game twice once from the play store for their phones and once for the Gamestick. I bought one Cheap on Amazon. After about a year it closed. Since it was a download only console now the only thing that works is the games I downloaded on it plus the controller. Not new games are coming out for it. It and the OUYa are flop micro consoles but this one was designed and made in Britian.

    • @alcampbell469
      @alcampbell469 Před 3 lety

      Plus there were two other notable problems. It was supposed to be powered by the TVs usb but they found they could not get enough power from it. Also the controller had a wireless range of about 3 feet. So you would be playing their major title Smash cops then suddenly your controller would turn off.

    • @alcampbell469
      @alcampbell469 Před 3 lety

      I was going to say you could play with mine but the controller and probably the whole system seems to have died. Probably the best thing for it.

    Enjoyed that. As much as the BBC Bridge Companion is useless unless you want to learn Bridge I'm curious what hardware lives inside in. The screen display looked like a Spectrum. Anyone know more about it?

    I thought the Gizmondo was developed in the UK, at least in part.. atrocity that it was. Are we going to see more of the same sculduggery with Atari's fabled VCS?

    So not really fair to compare the two

      And the original Amstrad CPC was released in 1984. The GX4000 was aiming for the same market as the Master System II, also released in 1990.
