Young Gymnast With Prosthetic Leg Is Breaking Boundaries | NBC Nightly News
I cried when I first heard of this girl 2 years ago. I was born with the same defect but in my right clavicle. It's a 1 in a million affliction and my parents pulled me out of gymnastics because they were worried about how it'd affect my life. In my case, it was probably the best option as my shoulder will never be strong and I can't do anything to make it stronger besides maybe build up muscle around it.
I'm SO happy her parents didn't see this as a hindrance!
You can break the human body, but never the human spirit.
I'm here to tell you otherwise.
@@alwa6954 story time.
@@jameswest8280 Well, just that the human spirit can be broken. I'm glad that this young girl's spirit was not broken and she is doing well. But the world is full of broken spirits. You can buy a prosthetic leg but not a prosthetic spirit.
@@alwa6954 I see your point.
@@alwa6954 Cocaine is my prosthetic spirit.
Wow this girl is awesome.

I've competed with and against this girl she is great
Love how even in a video about disability the people who made it didnt think about making it accessible by having the subtitles being super delayed 💀
@@kiragarvie I never said it was about accessibility? And just because she uses a prosthetic leg doesn't make her "acting able-bodied" 💀
Wow
I like he girls attitude !
Strong-willed and mature for her age.
👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Averie looks like her dad! I also saw her on the Steve Harvey Show where she got to meet Laurie Hernandez!

"I was determined that she was not going to be labeled as disabled." Does she realize how offensive that is to disabled people? Geez lady.
If you are not disabled yourself you can get down off your high horse and stop getting offended on behalf of other people, and if you are disabled stop taking all the good parking spots :)
I'm pretty sure most of us know exactly what she meant.
I personally don’t have a problem with people calling me disabled because it’s not a bad thing. I’m disabled. It doesn’t offend me. To me the negative connotation comes from the people around me. In my opinion, “Disabled” isn’t a bad word or degrading. Its not some taboo word or thing. I understand where her mom is coming from though, and people can be downright cruel but it doesn’t offend me.

Paralympics here she comes
to be completely honest I'm kinda jealous of those with prosthetics, because they don't have to be limited to human legs.
Well in sport like gymnastics it s not really an advantage you got zero proprioception in that leg but it’s true you can avoid being hurt like ankle sprains and such but i bet she has to work twice as hard to compensate the lack of proprioception, balance and muscles on that leg
@@TheSerrata true to that part.
That is my cousin
Wow great job lying
Wooowww good lying you almost had me laughing
Ok Nepal chhote Lal tharu hi hallo kchh hi to good
Why does Avery looks almost just like Jojo siwa
Good karma.
Tbh... i wanna break my leg.. prothetics look dope.
...
U have to lose a limb not break 1
@@kccopeland2820 same thing XD
@@kit4341 no it's not the same
Um…no you don’t. Do you know how difficult it is to be disabled??? Being a devotee is really really really upsetting as is the idea that you want to DAMAGE yourself. It’s gross. Don’t be disrespectful
