35:55 purple had very very few troops on his cap, maybe 1 or 2. You left him on 2 territories, the cap and the 1. On his turn, red got 104 troops in total, and he ended the kill with a 104 stack. Assuming he had a couple troops in the territory next to the cap before his turn, he lost nothing or next to nothing when taking the cap, which means purple probably had very very little. Also, before you went to fortify, purple said "good game", which I think meant he thought you were gonna kill him.

Yeah you can see at 34:58 purple had 35 troops on his Dinaric alps cap and then Pete’s turn right after that when he decides to play for second and hits that cap it has over 70 on it. Purple fortified all his troops off the Russian capital to that one. Pete had the kill but it wouldn’t have changed the outcome unfortunately.

It’s interesting how we both view the settings, you viewed them hitting you as a guaranteed stalemate, I view that as one of the more interesting part of the settings. You gave up a lot of your advantage to kill blue but if they let you hold 4 capitals and all that board, you just win the game, so both players took a cap and rebalanced the game. Each player has two capitals.
Now it’s time to try and rebuild relationships and negotiate a new board position that you can play into an advantage.
I personally would have placed just a nominal amount of troops on Iceland and mainly tried to hold Paris/Barcelona because of the board position and Paris is kind of hard to block, whilst making a half hearted attempt at holding the Eastern cap knowing you weren’t really strong enough to hold 3 and it makes you a target. This means if they let you hold you win, whilst allowing them both to rebalance the game without significant cost to you.

Way I see it is that red thought Pete was way bigger than he actually was. He didn't know purple would break and take a cap from Pete, he thought he was in a war against purple. That's why he took Italy. He was saying, "Hey, I'm not gonna break you, please give me 2nd."
Then red realized purple was only hitting Pete. Red (knowing purple is much worse than himself and Pete) decided to leverage his advantage that purple gifted him in order to hamstring Pete.
Purple should have addressed red the moment red got 43 troops. Not take a bonus. With that move, purple basically said, "Hey, I'm not gonna break you, please give me 2nd."
Unfortunately for purple, Pete doesn't ask for 2nd if he thinks it's 2nd or 3rd. He just takes it.

The problem is Pete’s remaining two caps were the two worst caps in the game. Neither of them were guarding bonus and both would be card blocked if he tried to hold the bonus they were in and would easily keep getting broken. Red was basically in an unbeatable position after he took Pete’s capital in France. He basically had a three point hold with two caps on the whole southern part of the board. Which means his generation couldn’t really be messed with unless Pete and purple were able to team on him but the ship on that relationship has already sailed. I think playing for second here was a fine outcome.

I’m pretty sure blue was the one that capped iceland. Green had Scandinavia early, and yellow gave an angry face during blues first turn, which would indicate they were attacking somewhere in France

I changed my flag to unspecified. I live in Taiwan and was repping the Taiwanese flag; though I am American by birth. I joined a game with a Chinese player who gave me a shocked then angry face and while I gave him a fist bump back, he then proceeded to throw the game in order to try and kill me which let another player steam roll both of us. Ever since I've been playing under a random name with an unspecified location as to try and avoid regional biases.

When i saw purp stealing that cap i was just thinking to myself, don't fuck over purple now or he will play for second and red will steamroll you. It was A cap, he didnt invade all bonuses, could have checked what he was going to do next move
Yeah i didnt understand why he was madder at purple than red. Red also stole a cap, AND bonuses. Pete let him hold (not right away, though) and then red attacked AGAIN despite that. Punished for letting him hold. I think I would be madder at red

@@yitzhakspolter9551 purple threw the game. Red just played it the way purple threw it. While I would be mad at red for beating me, I'd be more mad at purple for making it possible in the first place.
Bad players (breaking a bonus to take a defended cap) don't deserve a chance at 1st/2nd. Good players (who leverage what a bad player did to a good player to beat the good player) don't deserve a chance at 2nd/3rd.
