The Incredible Hulk is an American television series based on the Marvel Comics character The Hulk. The series aired on the CBS television network and starred Bill Bixby as David Banner, Lou Ferrigno as the Hulk, and Jack Colvin as Jack McGee. The series was originally broadcast by CBS from 1978 to 1982, with 82 episodes over five seasons. The two-hour pilot movie, which established the Hulk's origins, aired on November 4, 1977. It was developed and produced by Kenneth Johnson, who also wrote or directed some episodes.
After the series ended, the fate of David Banner was a cliffhanger until 1988. The filming rights were purchased from CBS by rival NBC. They produced three television films: The Incredible Hulk Returns (directed by Nicholas J. Corea), The Trial of the Incredible Hulk and The Death of the Incredible Hulk (both directed by Bill Bixby). Since its debut, The Incredible Hulk series has garnered a worldwide fan base.
Joseph Harnell (August 2, 1924 - July 14, 2005) was an American composer and arranger. Starting in 1964, Harnell worked with Grey Advertising as a jingle writer, and from 1967 to 1973, he worked as musical director of The Mike Douglas Show. In 1973, Harnell moved to Hollywood and worked in film score and television composition, composing for The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk including "The Lonely Man Theme"-a sad, solo piano tune- with which all episodes of The Incredibe Hulk ended, playing over David Bruce Banner walking down yet another lonely road, Alien Nation, and V, for which he received an Emmy nomination in 1983. Harnell also wrote the signature tune introducing United Artists movies in the 1980s, as well as the theme music for the NBC daytime soap Santa Barbara. Following this he became a faculty member at USC's Thornton School of Music as an instructor in film score composition.
His scores for heavily influenced the scoring of all Universal television programs in the late 1970’s. His scores used a traditional orchestral approach (influenced by his Jazz roots) using a 32 piece orchestra. He frequently conducted scores from the piano during recording sessions and he performed all the piano and keyboard solos in all of his scores.

What was it in the series? Was he trying to cure that lady scientist shown at the beginning from cancer? I know in the 2000s movie with Eric Bana, it's because he tries to save Betty Ross from an accidental blast of gamma radiation, so he stands between her and the gamma source.
@@josealdana7119 In the series, David tried to use gamma rays to enhance his strength, because his wife perished in a car accident and he was unable to lift the car or open the door to save her. The infusion of gamma rays was intentional, but the ray emitter had been updated without his knowledge and he accidentally gave himself 6 times the dose intended.

This is one of my all time favorite themes. This song isn't about the Hulk at all, it's about Banner and the struggles he endures. I wish Disney would reboot the Hulk series and bring this song back.

This is one of the best hulk lonely man videos. It's the one I watch the most. Reminds me of my childhood and the music makes me sad, but in a therapeutic kind of way if that makes sense. Thank you for this video.

Wasn't David Banner the kind of kind friend you always wished you had? I wonder why he never got a car instead of having to hitchhike all the time. Surely some of the many people he met would have given him an old used car, especially that scientist woman he married who then died should have left him a car or some money to buy one. She was well off after all.

The theme is from the pilot , I love you Elaina , I think you love me too although you never said it .... beautiful Pilot and the episode Married is the 2 reasons I adored this show .... there is some other great episodes but those 2 are excellent story tellers

There's something about the original series that would cause me to tear up.
The same here for me and as an eight year old in 78 ..it would make me cry though I kept that hid! The show and the theme..it was my all time favourite show. The music so heartbreakingly sad had such a massive emotional effect that it was almost too much to take in fact. The characters too were so beautiful in their delivery. It was done with such integrity and Bill Bixby's kind face is burned in my memory. How can one ever forget Lou Ferigno as the Hulk..my my ..the memories..Bixby's kind face reflected the beautiful person that he was. May he rest in peace.

Yeah I watched this show as a kid too. What was funny was "Trial of the Incredible Hulk" had a bunch of scenes shot in my backyard - about half a mile from my house in British Columbia. It was kind of surreal.

Remember when this music ran during the ending credits? This music would never be heard today because advertisers would insist the credits be run on a crawl at the bottom of the screen. Tv is turning into 1 big long ass commercial.

yes RIP Bill Bixby, he died few years after the final TV episode "Death of the Incredible Hulk". One of the ending episodes (i think the one pictured at 5:38) , scene ends when a child, out of nowhere, walks up to Bill (David in tears) and tells him, "...[they] never die, as long as we remember them."
That episode was the famous marriage two-part episode with Mariette Hartley where Dr. David Banner gets married.
