With genuine respect to the other Beatles for their huge talents but honestly can anyone really seeing any of the others being able to do this. McCartney and his melodic genius is quite unique. John's lyrical genius was too something to behold in wonder. I am not saying that John couldn't write beautiful melodies, of course he could, and I am not saying that Paul could never write great lyrics, but as a overall assessment most agree that their main strengths were; McCartney with melody and John with lyrics.

I agree w/ Paul Simon in that McCartney is a tier above Lennon

I understand people who claims Paul was the best of them in terms of creating melodies, However the complexity, innovation and intuition Lennon had for melodies was unparalell. He created a song based in just one chord ¡the whole song! (tomorrow never knows), When he came up with I Am The Walrus he did just the opposite, He did a song where he played basically all notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B. and to top it up, he played in major chords haha. That was never seen before either, He was capable of creating the most beautiful and meaningful balads like Jelaus Guy, Across the Universe, Norwegian Woods, Dear Prudence, Julia, You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, and at the same time, songs that were difficult to put a tag on, like Strawberry Fields Forever, Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds, I Want You, Don't Let me Down...I mean, to say Paul was better than him creating Melodies it's mad.
What I see over the years it's more like there some people who identify more with Paul's melodies and others with John's. And it's also true, Paul was more talented playing instruments, better at piano, at bass, at drums. but that doesn't have anything to do to be better at melodies.
I love them both, and credit both, they were the most talented guys ever to me.

This is a really lovely piece. I know that people say it's like Barber's - but it sounds nothing like it. Something dark by Bach or Beethoven, yes. Then he throws the irish reel in. Too bad people gave him so much crap for daring to go out of his lane with the Oratorio. We might have gotten more of this.

I love this but I also loved the Oratorio. I do think that Carl Davids though tends to be unfairly overlooked as he did write half of it.

A little bit of this piece was used at the beginning of the original Let It Be film, IIRC. I did a lot of editing to make it flow like a coherent piece of music.

It reminds me slightly of the opening movement of Paul's superb classical composition 'A Leaf' from the mid-1990s. I'm referring to the 1995 version of 'A Leaf', which is piano only. The orchestrated version on Working Classical detracts from the beauty of the original composition. For anyone interested, here is a link to the superior piano version: czcams.com/video/TDNNrRAiops/video.html
