    My son started reading at the age of 2 yrs old 😊

      That's amazing! Some kids can do that. Just remember everyone has some skills they are stronger in and some skills they are weaker in. There will always be an area (even if it's social, emotional, or physical) where we can practice and help our children improve. I found that when my children learned early to read they still sometimes struggled with stamina for a while.

    I have a bit of a unique situation. My kid is a July birthday. He is an only child, extremely verbal and bright. Very logical and doesn’t necessarily crave interaction with kids unless he knows the child, like neighbors or cousins.
    He is 4 now and he reads fluently, writes, spells and does simple addition and subtraction.
    My initial plan was to send him to kindergarten at 6 yrs old, so he would not be the youngest in his class. He is on the small side in height too.
    I’m concerned he will be way too advanced in academics if he waits 2 more yrs for kindergarten. On the other hand, I wish he was taller and more mature before starting kindergarten. Any advice?

    • @TheParentTeacherBridge
      @TheParentTeacherBridge  Před rokem +1

      My child was very smart with a July birthday as well. He only got a sibling once he was 4.5. I knew from teaching second grade at a school what the kindergartners were doing that he'd be bored and get in trouble. Yet, he didn't have the maturity. I chose to homeschool. I could've put him in private school but he would've been ahead there. In homeschooling, I could teach him anything at any time! If I wanted to use materials from another grade level, I could. The classes he's taken part in as well as the extra curricular activities, it hasn't mattered what level he is because he's still doing his own customized assignments. Even if you don't homeschool, I'm not in favor of skipping grades at such a young age. For one thing, you don't know what your child will be like at puberty. Sometimes kids are very smart and knowledgeable in early foundational skills and can still hit a snag at the middle school level. I skipped my senior year for early college admission, but I was nearly a young adult, which is quite different than a 4 year old trying to guess the future. If he is enrolled and is "ahead" you can make the teachers aware and ask they keep him challenged, along with challenging him at home when you see him. Homeschooling is the most customized form of education. I know many are turned off by the idea but that is only because they have preconceived notions and do not realize they get to make it what they want it--schedule and everything!

      @@TheParentTeacherBridge that is exactly what I did !! I notice my son as early as little at 9 month old that he is very interested in abc, # and very observant. Listen and repeated. He is 5 now and interested in geography. And writing. Drawing. Counting . Idk what he doesn’t not like . Oh and his favorite part is sitting across me and ask me “mom what is 28+ 120” random equations like he already knows 😅. Ofcouse he doesn’t I know he can add to random all the way to 50 +~ . But he wants to learn more every day and his desire to know more is challenging because I wasn’t a smart kid and I think I learn only to read and write English in 4th grade sadly. I really try engage and learn to never feel dumb again. so by 10 grade was in all Pre-AP class. And I think he is in same stage he want to learn and will learn. This is why I homeschool him. I did send him to kindergarten and the teacher told me on the 2nd week that my kid is very challenging. I ask her what did he do. She told me he finished everything before everyone and then helps everyone 😅. And he talks back. And corrects her all the time., ( little story,(at age 2 he ask me something and I lied, and he turn around and he like mom lying is bad. You told me few days ago yourself, 😅yes my face was red, and he like just this is the answer. Then I proceeded to question him, on why did he ask me this? And he said I wanted to make sure I was correct, he remember what I told him this few weeks ago. 😅. Ofcouse I had to get out of the loophole and explain why I said a lie idk but I was so proud of him. Anyhow after what the teacher told me took him out of school next day. And he has been a happy child since then. He does amazing at home school work and biggest of all because of him he taught my daughter how to count and abc and everything he tell her she listen and so entertain. She’s 3 and when my son learn something new or he makes her sit down and tell her while she playing dolls. But then my daughter few days later ask me questions on what my son taught her. It’s incredible!!!
      Homeschool can do so much to help advance kids. It’s alot of work but if your able to homeschool never doubt your child. If he knows he know.

      @@TheParentTeacherBridge Awesome😊 I’m E-learning with my kiddos and was wondering what advice would you have about other learning work not being done on the computer.. I have a kindergartener, 2nd, 4th and 6th graders they spend a lot of time on the computer and I would like some paper/workbook activities to give them a break from the computer.

      @@miquishak5743 If you are homeschooling (and not virtual schooling through your child's school) you will have more flexibility. Some moms don't use computer lessons at all. Others just use them for a few things (online course here and there, youtube learning videos or maybe a math curriculum). For those ages and grades, I highly suggest doing social studies and science together by using library books or unit studies. Your oldest will get more out of it but your younger ones will still learn. We journal ( I have some videos on that) on topics like that, but you can also do projects (video is What to Teach And Grade In Homeschool). We use a book for math. Even if you don't have one, though, be sure your kids know all add/sub/mult/divide facts and the oldest is solid on fraction operations. When we are in between books, I just give my son problems on the dry erase board while I have my calculator, but you can find worksheets on math-drills.com and dadsworksheets. Other than that, we don't do much learning with worksheets. We do discussions, projects, etc.

      @@miquishak5743 If you were actual homeschooling they'd have a better chance of catching up (particularly this year). However, if you cannot do that, you are doing the right thing by being proactive! For your little one you can watch my kindergarten and prek videos which will give you any advice I'd give you right now. ALways having kids write and draw will show you how much they can do and know. It also gives them practice little by little and they will improve. Remember that when they are virtual with their teacher, you are the one helping and overseeing, and really seeing what their work on paper is--so you have a better gauge than the teacher.
