The only team that fired their coach mid season was the Bucks, and that was because of the hype around Doc potentially going to the Lakers. If Lakers would have fired Ham, they would have Doc, who would have been no better. Lakers will get a new head coach this off-season, but I don’t know if anyone in the Lakers organization can recognize a good coach from a bad one.
