Hi guys welcome to aclaireytale and welcome to this hour long travel vlog!!! The entire trip is in this vlog of Copenhagen, Denmark and Malmo, Sweden. This is a special trip as it is my Mum's special birthday!!!
I hope you find this vlog helpful, I try to include tips, how to get to places and all the prices.
We fly with Ryanair from Manchester Airport to Copenhagen Airport and get a taxi to our hotel called Scandic Copenhagen. I give you a room tour around the Scandic, my room and my parents' room. We then go out and get our bearings around Copenhagen at night.
The next morning I show you the free breakfast in our hotel (it was amazing!) then we head straight to the Hop on Hop off bus outside Tivoli Gardens to take us to Nyhavn. The famous road with the colourful houses. The bus ticket gets us 20% off the boat tour so that's what we did next. Weather wasn't great but it was a fun thing to do. We grab some hot drinks from one of the nyhavn cafes. We then get back on the bus to see the little mermaid statue. Next up we go to Rosenborg Slot the Danish castle. It was amazing! I've never seen so much treasure!!! We walk to the Round House which takes you up a spiral slope to a lovely view over Copenhagen. We celebrate Mum's birthday at the Hard Rock with a cocktail and dinner. The next day it's time to head to Malmo Sweden! I show you how to get there, how much it is and what to do. We go across Oresund bridge to get there. We see King's Park, the Turning Torso and have the BEST Swedish meatballs at Bullen. We go into a cathedral before heading out of the country and back to Denmark. We spend the night watching the sun go down at Nyhavn.
The next day is our last day in Copenhagen. We go to the statue of Hans Christian Anderson and walk to Amelienborg castle to watch the changing of the guard!
We went for lunch at Torvehallerne, we try the famous danish open sandwiches Smorrebrod and the danish marshmallow desserts plus have coffee in the top ten coffee place in the world, Coffee Collection. I buy some swedish chocolate and then head back onto the hop on hop off bus to Nyhavn. I say goodbye from this famous road. I hope you enjoy coming along on this trip with me!!!!

Tip! If your going from the airport to the west (central station) of CPH and where your Hotel (Scandic CPH - 10 minute walk) is, take the train. Just as fast as a taxi and a lot lot cheaper. I think it's about £5 each. If your going to midtown, take the Metro, same price. Just like London has "The London card", we have "The Copenhagen card". Pretty much the same thing, with same services :-) ! But research, before you buy. I've heard that the CPH card offers a free canal tour. And that's something you don't want to miss. But always do your research, before you leave. A side note! Brits (except football fans ) are generally welcome and liked here 😀 ! Our sense of humor is so close! There's a reason why "Monty Python" had one of it's largest fan bases here🤣 ! Happy travels and greetings from Copenhagen ❤️

You actually managed to view the changing of the guard while the queen were home, there are two small tricks to knowing when she is, the first is a split flag is raised on the roof of her residence, the second is the royal guard having a music section with them while marching, neither will be present if she is out.
Yes that's right! It was fun knowing this was happening when the queen was in residence!! Thank you so much for watching and for the facts!
The round building in the lake is a Planetarium! And the wedge shaped building in the background of the Mermaid, is a Waste Incineration, but with a "Ski Hill" on top (Artificial snow) designed by famous (At least in Denmark) architect, Bjarke Ingels firm: BIG! He also designed the Figure 8 building, with a - bike pass on top!

Yeah, the Kingspark in Malmö is a different park in May, so beautiful! And a tip to people going to Malmö is to jump of at "Triangeln" instead of the central, and then work your way down to Lilla torg, Stora torg, Kungsparken etc. A nice path for a walking-day is Triangeln-->gågatan--->city library-->kingspark-->malmö castle--->western harbour--->lilla torg--->stora torg--->and then back to central station. Lunch at lilla torg or anywhere on the "gågatan"(the walkers street), there is also a garden-lunch place in the kingspark which is nice.

I just found your channel today ... as a Dane it make me happy that you loved the stay ......Torvehallerne is an absolute amazing place . and a small tip .. Those Flødeboller is meant to be eaten by hand, you pick it up and then just bite into it ... the " fluffy stuf" indside it is made of whipped eggwhites and sugar it was invented around 1800'ish

Tip! The Royal Guard Band only follows the Guards, if the the Queen is in residence. The Queen lives in the Mansion with five chimneys (she smokes a lot 😀 ). If the Danish flag is flying above one of the Mansions, it's because the Queen or Crown prince / Crown Princess are home. You where lucky that day! The Queen was home 👍 ! BTW! A close friend of mine is a manager at the Scandic Hotel, you stayed at. She was super happy, that you all liked staying there 😊 ! Really really good VLOG 😉 !!
Fun fact. Smoerebroed (Smørrebrød ), meaning buttered bread. It takes 3+ years of culinary training to become a "Buttered bread maiden" ( smørrebrøds jomfru) 👍. Yeah ! We take our open faced sandwiches really really serious 😎 ! Much like the Japanese do, with there "Sushi" 😊

Thank you for all the effort you put into this, it was great to watch! Copenhagen is definitely on my bucket list but I'm not sure how wheelchair friendly it would be with all the cobbles and I've heard that a lot of the shops and restaurants have stairs going into them (I hate having to send someone in to ask if they have a ramp) but hopefully one day I'll get there because it looks beautiful
Although there are cobbles there are a lot of wheelchair paths too. Some of the bits like Radhuspladsen might be harder to do but if you’d like more info or photos/videos of different routes to see if it’s navigable just let me know. I live here in Copenhagen and happy to help if I can.

This was a lovely travelvlog. So interesting and insightful. So much so that my wife was on the Internet checking city breaks there with our Ireland based daughter and granddaughter. Very easy for you to visit Sweden 🇸🇪 and those meatballs looked so good. The guards weren’t quite Coldstream standard. 🤣🤣. Your parents and Simon do enjoy an Irish coffee. 🤣🤣. Loved your Mickey eared bobble hat, which judging from the February temperatures was needed and great additions to your pin collection. Very enjoyable 51 minutes. Thanks for sharing.

Hej Claire! Nice that you enjoy copenhagen. There are so many cool places to Enjoy in copenhagen, I really enjoy Torvehallarna! It's a really cool place, they have a lot of cool food and a lot of delicious things that you can try. I also enjoy drinking Tuborg classic, its a popular beer in Denmark. If you enjoy reading books there's a lot of cool bookstores where you can buy books, fortunately most are in danish, so if you don't read any nordic language it might be difficult to understand. Anyway, you can take a train to Odense, it's the birthplace of H.C. Andersen. I believe this is a very typical danish small town.

I'm from the UK but married to a Viking. My wife is half Swede & half Dane. I haven't been to either of these countries before. But this September we are visiting both countries. I'm watching this video as my tour prep. Lol
The soldiers doing their drills at Rosenborg Castle is The Royal Guards. They are also the armed guards at the castle. The buildings behind them in the video is their barracks. They march from here to Amalienborg each day to the change of the guards. When on guard duty at Amalienborg their uniforms are the lightblue pants, dark blue jacket and their bearskin hats. (And yes … they are made from real bear skin.)
When performing guard duty on Rosenborg Castle, they dress in regular uniforms.
The trick to eating smørrebrød, is to get a bit of everything in each bite. Usually the composition is made for the various tastes and aromas to complement eachother, which explains “a bit of all in each bite”.

Some/many years ago Easy Jet flew to Newcastle from Cph. and I used it several times, but sadly it was only for a time. And lately Ryan Air decided to make a Hub in Cph. but wanted to pay - low Irish wages, also in Cph! The strong and well organized Danish Unions didn't agree to that and gave Ryan Air a regular punch in the nose, declining to do any service at all in the airport, for Ryan Air planes! So they had to retract to Ireland with their tail between the legs! They still fly to Cph. but now under ordinary conditions 😁.

What a wonderful trip! It`s lovely that you`re so close to the continent, things are so much more accessible (I`m in western Canada, grew up in England though)! Great video! I’ll be visiting Copenhagen for the first time in June from America. That last food hall looks amazing. Did you exchange money to Danish krone or pay for everything with your card? I’ve read that some places in Sweden don’t accept cash.
If you get a chance to watch The Bridge, watch it! It has subtitles but it’s very exciting. A lot takes place in Malmo.

Thank you so much for sharing this trip Claire. Matt and I did Northern Europe cruise on the Disney Magic. We stopped in Copenhagen (on my birthday), I cried when we saw the Little Mermaid statue. She's so beautiful. We also watched the changing of the guard.

What's against public transport? It is much faster (10 minutes from the airport to your hotel) and cheaper than the private transport: taxi.
Nothing against public transport as I said in the video between the 4 of us it wasn’t too expensive and with all our cases it was more convenient to be dropped off right in front of the hotel
