    I’m very familiar with both cartridges/platforms. This is by far the most comprehensive and accurate description/comparison I’ve ever heard! Absolutely fantastic job!

    Just had an idea for a potential cartridge comparison video, if you're looking for new content ideas. Large pistol cartridges that are also sometimes used in rifles. Usually lever or single shot rifles. .357 Mag V. 44 rem Mag. Maybe put them up against something most are more familiar with out of those guns, like a 45-70 or 30-30?

    I get impressive terminal ballistics with the 7.62x39 ( AR47) using .308 130 gr barnes ttsx handloads.

    I'd love to see some 300 Ham'r compared. It's definitely better supersonic than 300 blk. I have and like both for different reasons

      You're definitely right about the 300 HAMR. The 300 Blackout gives better subsonic options, but the 300 HAMR is unquestionably more powerful with the supersonic options.

    What about the 300 Whisper which preceded the 300 Blackout, which copied it ?

    With handloading, would 200+gr round nose soft point be an option for subsonic?

    • @Thebiggamehuntingblog
      @Thebiggamehuntingblog  Před měsícem

      Maybe, but I doubt any old round nose soft point would work here. It would need to be something specifically designed for expansion at very low impact velocities, otherwise you risk having the bullet just "pencil through" the animal without expanding at all.

    The 300 BLK uses pistol powder (in both its sub and super cartridges). This was part of the design strategy. Pistol powder burns faster, so max muzzle velocity is generated in shorter barrels.
    There is very little benefit to having a 300 BLK barrel greater 16”. It’s just not worth the extra length and weight.
    In shorter barrels, the 300 BLK muzzle velocity is reduced compared to the 16” standard, but this reduction is not as greats as with short barreled variants of calibers using rifle powder, such as 5.56 and .308 Win. In fact, short barrels sold in those rifle calibers are (IMHO) a complete rip off.
    This makes the 300 BLK a very viable platform over a wide range of barrel lengths.
    The result: More energy per inch of barrel length.

    I handload 110 TAC-TX , Nosler 125 Ballistic tips, and 110 grain V-Max. Subs for up close & personal.

      What velocity are you getting with those handloads?

    • @64samsky
      @64samsky Před měsícem

      I run about 2,200 fps on the TAC-TX and the V-Max and 2,100 fps on the Balistic Tip. This is out of my 16 inch setup. I'm not sure about the fps on my 7.5 or 10 inch pistols.

      @64samsky I load the 110vmax at just over 2100fps in my 8" 300blk. Thinking about trying the tactx also
