- Riot police armed with water cannon and teargas have been accused of beating protesters who picketed outside Georgia’s parliament to try to stop a final vote on a controversial “foreign influence” law.

Critics fear the bill, which is due to have its third reading on Monday and final vote on Tuesday, will stifle the media and NGOs. The US has said parliamentarians must choose between Kremlin-style laws or the Euro-Atlantic democratic path they had embarked upon

this is what the UK is afraid of
NATO trying to overthrow the elected government?
No it’s not
Afraid of what? I'm confused... The riots or the bill?
Wow Yes it is NOT what the UK wants AT ALL these NGOs steal our money to give to the wealthy in a one world globalist interest... Is this bill already in the UK?
We need to shut all these NGOs down. They are unaccountable waste of spaces trying to funnel everything into a one World gov
UK already has rent-a-mob protesters every day waving Palestine flags around. Georgia has people waving a foreign flag too, the EU flag
Long live Georgia, from Wales, this is what pride and respect for your country and values looks like, the UK could learn from this
The protesters want to join the EU and be ruled from Brussels, that's giving away all your values to a foreign unelected power. And they don't even know that the bill keeps Georgia free
That makes no sense. These people wanna become part of EU and give up most of their rights.
@@voice.of.reason For Georgia to be free the politicians of the ruling party should allow a thorough check of the origin of their finances and business.
if Vicky Nulamd turns up again don’t accept the cookies 😂
Guardian - Always covering the protests but never shows the story in detail, interviews government or ever gets the other side of the story
"Oh yeah" London or Washington police are very kind to protesters, lolz...
A *lot* kinder than Russia or South Africa or China or Venezuala etc, or indeed any Arab country....
@@bertrandrussell894 oh sure they are my dear and that's what I said thou. 😂
Every country should have a law like this one!
How much of British media is owned and controlled from outside the country?
Owned by who? Americans? Chinese?
Israel and u.s. state department to be precise
If your country is on the path to join the EU, as Georgia is,
and every EU citizen must be equal in every EU state, live, work and do business.
Then it makes no sense that, for example, a German who opens a business in Georgia needs to be signed up as a foreign agent, since Georgians don't have too.
Joining the EU means giving up some sovereignty, but that is each country's decision and there are rules to follow.
No need to even say about how fr**king sketchy the law is on its own, which is another tool to silence anyone with a legal excuse.
@@sergio7248 Hahahaha but is EU the USSR? With countries having to give up their national identity?
I’m failing to see the problem.
We should have the same in the UK, surely? I mean…everything in the UK is foreign-owned but it’s always handy to have the clarity.
Politicians "foreign-owed" too?
0:25 is this problem clear enough to you?
@@sandro-of9fq don’t conflate the issues - you need some clarity of perception.
Im failing to see the problem in the bill itself.
Your identified problem is police brutality. It’s a separate issue.
I don't understand what the protests are about at all. I don't see anything wrong with the law.
It will prevent foreign countries influencing Georgian politics
Protesters or agent provocateurs? Why would they protest about this if they were not proxies of a foreign nation?

@@sergio7248 Businesses? The bill was about foreign None government organisations and NGOs are not a business the last I checked.
@@user-fz9ww9sr1o Same, any organization, including businesses.
If you are not Georgian, or even if you are but your funding isn't, you have to register as a foreign influence agent.
Which is incompatible with the EU, as it doesn't treat all EU citizens equally.
This is why they are protesting.
Did you know that you can be opposed to things that don't directly affect you?
NO FOREIGN AGENTS! 1312
They want to be a part of the E.U. not Russia
Join the EU and be ruled from Brussels, that's giving away all your values to a foreign unelected power. And they don't even know that the bill keeps Georgia free
Why can't they just be Georgian
If this was happening in India or any of the college protest arrests happened in India then guardian would cry- democracy is dead in India!! It’s a dictatorship😅
0:02 what a throw
Shocking just like British police during lockdown
The idea that people can block a democratic vote in parliament is undemocratic and they should rightly be moved on
Very repressive police just like in Russia 😡😡😡😡
This might rurn into anothe war in Europe.
Same as in Ukraine’s coup of 2014… they will also learn in due course but at the same huge cost!
Meaning: if they protest Russia invades?
😂
Seems like they are right to not want to be like Russia.
@@sergio7248no it means be careful what you ask for. The Devil always wants something in return.
Its a correct intention, because the foreign NGO's and media are serving the interest of the parent country under the guise of helping locals or journalism.
