Thank you for sharing Amanda! It is very encouraging. I will start making videos right now😊
Great job in addressing how you look, how you sound, and why your personality makes a significant impact when engaging a viewer on camera. My takeaways from your tips is accept who you are and there’s always room to improve yourself.
I made my first video this week and I know if I saw me I wouldn't subscribe. Boring, understated, flubbed my lines so many times that I had to frankenbite the whole thing... not to mention just what's going on in the world, I couldn't bing myself to smile. Looking forward to overcoming all of this.
This was amazing it felt like u were talking to each of us personally , very engaging
@4:30 such a crucial exercise!!! Of course, it works for in-person speeches/presentations too. I've had the monotone problem for so long - vocal variety is also so important. Thanks Amanda!
Amanda, thank you so much for this video!! Finally found a tutorial about how to talk to the camera that gives such useful tips. My videos will definitely improve in quality now!
This video is so he;pful. I started recording CZcams videos three years ago when COVID started; I have been teaching online since then (college level classes). I record a new video each week for my students. This semester, Fall 2023, I finally feel comfortable in front of the camera. My presence in the videos is so much more confident and smooth. I also record videos much quicker and feel that they are much better because I have learned how to record my head shots. For me, the secret was simply to keep recording myself and gaining more experience as I kept doing it.
Thanks for the great tips Amanda! I'm just getting started doing videos and will be much more aware to up my energy!
Thanks Amanda, your examples have a lot of impact.
Great insight! Thank You so much for this
Started being more purposeful in making videos a few months back. Thank you for the tips! You're adorable!
I'm grateful for this Amanda!!
Just found your channel. Helpful tips, and I like your positive energy. I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching more.
Great video! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! So much more helpful than all of those videos claiming to teach you the “hack” to CZcams
Thank you, Amanda. I tried your suggestion: first video with normal speech, and for the second, third, and fourth videos, I increased the energy and excitement. You were right; increasing it to 50-75% made a huge difference. Going to 100% was probably too much. Thanks for this tip. 🙂
Pretty impressive how much of a difference it makes! Glad it was helpful!
Really good and authentic. Thanks mucho!
Just discovered your channel. Thanks for the tips. I'm really working hard on improving my on camera presence for my channel and your tips are helpful. I'm going to take a look at your videos now. Thanks!
Wow! Brilliant, thumbs up!!
I spent many years on camera until 2 years ago when I had the worst MS flareup of my life. Ever since then, I AM AWKWARD AF on camera and need to relearn what to do and how to do it. Thanks for what you do Amanda. It's so helpful.
Hi Michaela Just keep doing it, sounds like a cliché however that's the only way. I had few issues in my presentation style then I realized that the audience is not even noticing it. It's me who is freaking out over minor stuff. Research shows that people like how they are (with flaws) so it's ok.
Thanks for sharing Amanda!😊
oh yes! acceptance and self love both powerful medicines to make the moment awesome. thank you for all you do. hiy hiy
Jesus you freaking nailed it!!!! Amazing advice and you have a beautiful energy and presents about you what you share is gold and it’s exactly right I am a very outgoing person and when I’m on the camera it’s kind of the opposite. I’m using a Teleprompter on my cell phone but my personality is not shining through like it does when I’m in front of people so I’m going to try your method. Thank you so much.

Great video with great tips Amanda!
Tonality...that is so true... part of my job [when I was still young enough to work] I would answer the phone [a salesman] and we started recording my voice... it was horrible... I had to learn to always sit up in my chair, raise my head a bit, and speak in a higher level than normal in order to not sound like a serial killer...
Ive been on camera. Ive been told I am a natural. It didn't show up on my video..YIKES! lol this video really helped. thank you for all you do..
Glad to help!
Wow so valuable! Thank you
Thank you so much for all these sharing. I start to record an online video course and this video and all the messages will help me a lot to create better videos 😻
Glad to hear it!
Just tried doing a quick vlog style intro to one of my videos and is was probably 10x harder that I thought it was going to be, and that's truly not hyperbole
Thank you for your video. Just done a 7 minute video to be presented at a conference. I discovered that standing up helped with energy and tonality. I totally learnt from experience that you have to heap the energy on, or it looks like nothing. Agree that you have to take the time to watch yourself, the only way to find those faults. I made a teleprompter using a document in a window in front of the camera screen. I found that helpful. But I improved the script by deviating from it winging it, then listening to myself and including in the script the ad hoc parts that seemed to work. Sooo much repetition, but the final result was very much better than the first attempt.
Very useful specially the energy method
great tips as always!
Fantastic!!
Hey, thank you so much for this, Amanda! I just got started with this whole scene a couple months ago and am trying to watch a bunch of these. This is by the far the best I’ve seen. 😀 You’ve got a new subscriber, and I’m checking out your course now!
I'm from India. Great video. Very much satisfied with your advice. Thank you
Energetic! 🤘
Love your energy! You spoke to me. I’m boring and too corporate 👎 - side note. Consider a light diffuser 😊
Thanks for the video Amanda! Answering your question: my first experience was extremely ugly. However, I continued and now have almost 10k subs!
But I had to take a long break because of becoming a father of twins (a boy and a girl), and it's very daunting and tiring now to have enough energy for everything. But still my old videos bring me new clients and private students, I've increased my prices dramatically and it works!
Looking forward to returning to CZcams. Just tried to record a video and it feels like it's once again my first video ever😆
Great tips! 😊
Love the exercise! I shall try it!
Do! You'll be amazed at the results and clarity that comes from it 🥰
I love your persona, adorable. I am inspired
Good tips! Maybe cool it on the AAVE.
I actually think your new, authentic videos are more engaging. 😊
Just starting my you tube channel and not having a style yet.
I can't memorise an entire story and don't want to look like I'm reading a script. Thank you for your amazing videos
Great Advice
0:00 📹 Overcoming challenges with on-camera presence is achievable with awareness and practice.
1:40 🎬 Approach the recording process in a way that suits your style, whether it's improvisation or using a teleprompter.
2:45 ⚡ Energy is essential for engaging on camera. Projecting energy requires more than just speaking in a normal tone; it involves using gestures, varying voice tone, and maintaining enthusiasm.
5:49 🎙 Tonality plays a crucial role in keeping viewers engaged. Experiment with voice modulation and inflection to make your delivery more dynamic and interesting.
7:04 👀 Watching yourself on camera helps identify areas for improvement, such as body language, makeup, and vocal habits. Embrace these observations to enhance your on-camera presence and boost confidence.
Thank you
Been tasked with making five minute long safety videos!!! I’m interested in the subject; but one of the most mind numbing, boring subjects in the history of the universe for most. I’m using as many of your tips and ideas as I can !!!!
1 great way to keep audiences engaged in your video is to have something change in the scene every 7-10 seconds, whether its a cutaway shot, change in focal length, camera angle, on screen pop-up etc. A scene that goes longer than roughly that period of time without anything changing can make the video 'feel' like it's long and slowing down causing viewers attention to rapidly start drifting. Hope your videos turned out well!
GREAT video 👍
great video
I is a real person???? LOL.... now that sounds like me....thanks for the great videos, I have watch quite a few and your videos are at the top of my list.
Great vid 👌
This exercise for on camera personality was the biggest game changer for me from your course! Loooove that you're sharing it to the public!
Yaaaa it's too good not to share. Plenty of other goodies in the course for those who want the full step by step system 🙌
@@AmandaHorvath Soooo worth it!
me too that was awesome! and from just one short video too
Great video. I "um" and "ah" a lot and really struggle to sound natural. Sometimes I think I'm getting better, other times not so much 😬
I'll be honest though, your example of talking to someone in a room, I don't understand. You seemed perfectly fine still 😁
The tone differences is my takeaway tip. Thanks!
Do you have any makeup tips for men for talking on camera? I just picked up some foundation to lightly cover blemishes? Is that enough? (plus usual grooming and wardrobe). Perhaps this is a topic for a video. Thanks for the tips in this video!
Powder is probably the best for soaking up oil and covering up blemishes 🙌 maybe just experiment
We just shot our first video. It gave us a small bit of doubt if we're cut out for CZcams, but we're trying to improve watching your videos!
You can do this!! It's not easy and doubt is the name of the game - sadly! If you need specific help, I'd be happy to do a coaching session with y'all. amanda@amandahorvath.com or www.calendly.com/amandahorvath/coaching
Superb content
ahhh I used to stare into the screen itself for years-always look at the lens!
You are fantastic
I've done 3 videos so just getting started. And talking into the camera things is the biggest obstacle. I end up doing the videos over and over again and just give up because it just doesn't feel right. That's why I'm not following anyone's rules yet. Recently I've found my sound was just too high and kept thinking it was the mic, but it turned out to be me, so that's not fun either. Not to mention editing. Also, I don't want to talk to the VidQ or TubeBuddy people because I don't want to narrow to a niche and I don't think my preferred topic is anything they cover. I don't go on vacation, I'm not selling anything and I don't want to do cute pet videos, so I actually feel like there's not any real help out there, and the people who might help seem too far out of reach for me.
I feel your pain. It helps to keep at it. It is awkward talking into a camera.
If you are having problems talking freely to the camera with just an outline, maybe create a 2 or 3 page full script and try a teleprompter for your camera or phone cam. Nothing to memorize when using a prompter but you can practice delivering the lines over a few times for each couple of sentences using prompter until it sounds natural. Practicing off camera in front of a large mirror might help also.
Did you figure out some of this after you left the comment a couple of years ago?
"a real person" 👍
I am going to record myself more often
I feel like I’m so serious and I don’t end up uploading the video
thank you 🙏
Hi Amanda, I'm interested in your course, how to talk to a camera
Any tips for people like me whose English is not their native langage? Starting a new business around motherhood, i have the knowledge and expertise but sound terrible on camera. I’m French and always think that my accent makes me sound awkward and doesn’t show authority. Just wish i could feel more confident and natural to overcome that
Own it!!! Look at Esther perrell she's huge with a French accent.
Believe it or not, Americans don't care about accents in their language as much as the French do 😉
Can you recommended any teleprompter apps? Thank you 😊
The one I like is just called teleprompter which makes it the worst recommendation!! It's blue with white "text" on the screen (that's in quotes cause the text is actually just white lines) and then there's a white small arrow pointing to the words. I hope that helps!!!
I thought the bit where you spoke normally as you would with your friends was better and seemed more sincere
Depends a bit on your niche what works for what.
I was interested in this video until around 2:45 when I realized that I wasn’t going to get what I want (guidance) unless I “click the cards” or go to “the description below”. I feel like CZcams is two things: a place for viewers who are less familiar with how it all works, and how the creators all pretty much do the same thing: ask you to follow, to like, to comment etc… and secondly, it’s become a place where people who use CZcams every single day, and have for many years, for various things such as entertainment, knowledge, experience… are starting to become bored with hearing the same style, and same pitch from every single creator; to the point where as soon as they start asking me for something (especially before they’ve given any information!), I’m ready right then and there to change channels. Just a word for the wise because I feel like creators very soon are going to need to step up their game if they really want to do this CZcams thing successfully.
Well you're certainly missing out on vast amounts of info by having this perspective, my friend. From the creator side, I have tons of videos covering multiple topics in depth. It'd be dumb not to share that they're available.
@@AmandaHorvath eh, it is what it is. This is just one viewers perspective. Neither of us represent the whole. Just some advice you’re free to ignore.
I do appreciate the advice 🙏 just don't let the transitional phase stop you from soaking in the info you currently need is all I'm saying.
@@AmandaHorvath I will remember that, thank you. What do you mean by the transitional phase?
There's a major energetic shift in marketing right now. Your comment on the old way of CZcams could be part of that shift. There's certain algorithm things that are changing, but it's more so the way people perceive marketing.
Like a breaking down of certain things working and new things arising. Ex. Facebook ads are majorly dying.
From an esoteric perspective, it resonates with the belief that we're entering into the age of Aquarius.
My take away: you’re a bad ass at your job while being pregnant! Also, I’m definitely a serial killer. I’m fearful I’ll become mentally exhausted if I honestly level up my energy and presentation in my videos… but it is better than what I got going now
I’m just starting out with CZcams and it’s got me rethinking everything and I’m confused, scared and even feel like I don’t even know who I am🙁
Since my brother's passing, I've struggled with communicating my ideas fluently. I am taking medicine but I wonder if I can communicate as fluently as I used to before mt brother's passing. I had the best communication skills before my brother died! !! I was able to easily create channels of communication with people!!! What should I do? I don't know what to do! I would greatly appreciate advice! As I am currently working and I don't want to lose my job.
I feel your pain GREATLY. Grief is the toughest emotion to process in my eyes. I had an ex boyfriend pass away a year after our break up and it nearly broke me. It was the catalyst that led me to start this channel actually, woke me up to the fragility of life.
This is definitely a question that's hard to explore in a comment. If you're open to it, I'd suggest booking a coaching call with me and I'd love to explore this conversation with you further! www.calendly.com/amandahorvath/coaching 💕💕💕
Leaning to one side. Winging it without having shaved for a bit and looking like a thug. Saying, SO before every sentence. These are some of the things I've run into as I started creating footage.
hi Amanda
Love it, I do look like a serial killer :))))
I either had to learn not to breathe, take time to think, and get it right in one take...since that's not possible, I use my own software to cut boring parts for me :)
I finally shot the time bolt video 😎 it's coming out soon!
So very cool!
@@AmandaHorvath I've been working on a single video for 6 weeks now lol
When I recorded my first serious video, my hook took 10 minutes to nail down. Yes, I still can't say that I am authentic on camera and freestyle by just writing bullet points, but I believe that I am about to get there.
It definitely takes time!! How to be authentic on camera is my #1 mission right now so if you haven't yet, def be sure to catch my more recent videos that explore this topic. It's not super black and white!
I've done a few videos. So, I'm a little less nervous. However, I still don't know what to talk about. 😜
This is my jam! Book a coaching session and let's dive into it: calendly.com/amandahorvath/coaching
i honestly think my voice is pretty decent BUT as soon as i click record my voice and sentence structure and EVERYTHING just changes to completely unnatural lol. its pretty annoying... out of 100 videos for example i would get 1-2 where i was like wow there we go that felt and sounded natural and its sooooo much better when that happens
Horvath, do you have Hungarian heritage?
0:51 I recorded today for the first time and watching back the footage: Yes that is totally what I thought. But I'm ready to try again, so watching a bunch of videos like this one :) The only fun clip I have, is where I was joking (to the camera) about some broken fence behind me, because that was the only part of all footage where it was ME being excited about a fence and not me trying to read a script.
Exactly!! The more you do it, the more you'll see yourself being real and you'll be able to recognize it better next time you film. It's taken me nearly 5 years to feel that my on camera presence truly is who I am. And even as I type that, I know I too can get better!
Yeah, the chin thing. I do it when I’m thinking. I tend to look up in thought. Not sure how it reads on camera.
It doesn't read well on camera! At least not for me 😆 far from flattering haha
@@AmandaHorvath Would like to book a consultation.
I'd love to do that with you 👏🤗 you can book a coaching session here: www.amandahorvath.com/coaching
There may be limited availability before the new year though cause it's a lil hectic with the holidays but hit me up and we can coordinate a time! amanda@amandahorvath.com
How do I find you on instagram? It's not easy.
@ahvisions I wish I had Amanda Horvath!!
UGH. IM TRYING MY BEST BUT this feels impossible😢😢😢
Does anyone else’s eyes cross when they look at the camera.😂
But, what if I'm not natural and energetic in real life?
You are Hungarian :)
I sure am ✨💕
Useful information but, I'm always turned off when YT videos turn out to be informercials for something the creator is selling. I'd like it better, or I think it would help if, the creator said up front that the video is an example of information contained in a full course that they offer. Then, at the end of the video, perhaps, say that a link to the course is in the description below. I just feel disappointed and a bit deceived when all of a sudden the creator diverges from the topic and starts hawking their product. IMHO if your selling something just tell me at the beginning. 😊 Be safe. be well. May all your ups and downs have soft landings. 😊
Everyone has to make a living these days. Creators can earn more by doing their own marketing than relying on meager amounts that AdSense pays them. I don't mind if a video includes a pitch for a book, course or merch. The key is make sure that the video still has some real value and compelling content to it.
@@lihtan Thanks for the reply.
I become too conscious and want to be perfect
Right backatcha! Just keep practicing and you'll eventually realize that perfect and authenticity don't align! The more imperfect, the more authentic! Check out my more recent videos to dive into this topic.
I just wish I could stop feeling stupid and self conscious. I feel like Americans sound natural being enthusiastic but I'm English so when I do it my voice goes weird and I start sounding strange or saying words wrong 😂 I don't understand. I can talk to anyone in person but voice overs and camera I turn weird.
WTF is it with the damn chin thing. I have done EXACTLY that. The other one is the tilting of the my head to one side.. Soooooo annoying They are BOTH equally horrid. It's a battle!
Hahha I sooooo get it. I don't know why it happens either. I've wondered for myself if it's cause I'm short and used to talking up at people 🤷♀️ I've learned to make sure the camera is slightly higher than eye level to avoid getting too much chin - there's a lil trick for ya!
@@AmandaHorvath I'm 6'2 and spend most of my life looking downward. So it's not a tall/short thing. Tilted head gets me too. Talking to that damn circle too!! So impersonal that little round bastard is!
I didn't know I was doing it until I watched back my latest video 😭
practise practise practise
and avoid annoying fillers like uhm (at first practise to speak them completely silently!)
This over the top behaviour doesn't seem at all natural to me.
I'm not confident enough that's why my videos are failing cause I use ai text to speech or do voice over and never show my face cause I always think that I'm not good enough 😢
Time to work through that limiting belief!! You ARE worthy of being seen despite what you've been told in the past!
Please don't use text to speech, it sounds awful and I'm sure you have a wonderful voice ❤️
Yeah I hate Text to Speech way more than a real human even a real human with low self esteem...
