  • Since I saw The White Garden at Sissinghurst Castle Garden the first time about 25 years ago, I have been hooked!
In my own garden I have several garden rooms where I'm combining white flowers with silvergrey foliage from perennials, annuals, schrubs and trees.
In this video I'm showing my own garden but I'm also at Sissinghurst Castle Garden. I hope, that you will enjoy ...
My name is Claus Dalby, and I live in Risskov on the outskirts of Aarhus in Denmark. To date, I have written about 30 books on flowers and gardens in Danish, and my garden has been featured on many TV shows. In March 2022 my first book in English will be available. I consider my home (built in1908), and its garden with its neighboring wood, as my sanctuary. When I started gardening in 1996, there was just a large lawn covering approximately 1 acre (4,000 square meters), but today the grass is long gone - replaced by 15 hedged rooms with varying colors and moods. Additionally, one of my great passions is growing in pots, arranged to create spectacular container gardens, which I will share quite a bit about on this channel. Decor and creating moods have always interested me - both outside and inside - and I love to use the flowers from my garden for bouquets and to inspire other crafts that create a sense of hygge.

Oh, Mr Dalby, I think your white garden is more beautiful than the one at Sissinghurst, because you have more foliage in lime greens and silvers, and in different textures. Your plants always look immaculate and lush, and I love your artistry! Thank you for making your videos; I find them inspirational! (Just so you know, mine is a rambling country garden, in rural New Zealand.)

Indeed, visiting the White Garden is a transformative experience. You return home and attempt to create one for yourself. It is then that you realize what a complex task that is. You need to plan for a series of blooms in succession. You require different foliage textures. You want different heights in your garden. It is quite a challenge to get all those requirements right. You seem to have mastered all those categories as your white garden is superb. What a treat you have given us.

I have to conclude that by restricting the flowers to white, showcases the many foliage shapes & the breadth of plant ,tree & shrub growth habit. A triumph of garden design & planning here. DELIGHTFUL viewing here with the Alliums being my favourite, similiar to the ubiquitous Agapanthus in Sydney, Australia.

Thank you so much for your kind comment about my garden. My tip to a successful planting scheme - which also applies to a small space - is to limit the numer of different plants you use and repeat them instead. So if I was to pkant up ten or twelve containers, I would only use three or four different types of plants.
