  • In this video, I compare the GE PFQ97HSPVDS and the LG WM6998HBA Ventless combo washer/dryer units. These units are "One and Done" so you can wash then dry without needing to change units. They are also both ran on 120v, which is much lower than typical dryers.

LG owner here. Not mentioned, the LG has all DC inverter pumps which are amazing. No more loud AC hum during drains. My quick review. Washer is an absolute 10/10. Quick, quiet, large size. Dryer is an 8 of 10. Some loads come out slightly damp, but most are very dry. Also, lint is a thing. Especially on the gasket. Sometimes you will find a small bit on your clothes here and there. I have 2 small pets. If you have large pets, you may find more. Pro tip. This machine is awesome for laundry at night. Love waking up to clothes ready to fold and no more laundry day on the weekend. Also, the energy savings are quite large. Yeah, the dryer uses half or even less compared to vented dryer, but the bigger savings are in not sending up to 9000 cu/ft. of conditioned air out of your living space into the outdoors. Depending on how cold or hot it is outside and how much laundry you do, this could be huge.

We bought two of the LG units and so far so good. There has been some quirky behavior, though. For instance, I came home the other night after leaving a load in the washer running when we left. When we returned, it said it had about 50 minutes left in the drying cycle. I came back about 20 minutes later and that had changed to 2 hours 36 minutes (!!??). I paused the load and took some of the clothes out. All were perfectly dry. Weird.

    Ben,
I caught the total water usage between the two. Question:
    1) Does the Extra Water option on the GE (+3 gal to main wash and to rinse cycles) add *noticeably* more water in the tub?
    2) For the LG, does Extra Rinse +3 just mean 3 *additional* rinse cycles but no increase in water during each?
    3) Is there any way to add water to the main wash cycle on the LG?
Why do I ask? Because we use additives like washing soda and percarbonate, and I've found having more water helps keep the load from feeling tacky after the rinse is done on a front loader. Sometimes, I run it through an extra wash cycle (fast wash) just to rinse it better. This is on our current compact front loader, so hoping to grab one of these combos soon.
Thanks so much for the thorough testing!

I looked at their online manual and see it has a condensor conditioning maintenance cycle. If I understood it correctly you pour fluid into the filter recepticle and I guess it washes the condensor? Would this solve the condensor lint buildup issues with these heatpump units? Oh, they are on sale until 2/28/2024 and have an extra year manufacturer's warranty when you register your purchase.

Ben, what’s strange is that I cannot find even a single actual review of the LG heat pump washtower on CZcams from anyone, just talk about it, not an actual review or test of one.
I still don’t understand it on several fronts…. Why does it use a 240V/30A outlet for the dryer alone if it’s a heat pump and only actually uses a small fraction of the power of a regular dryer? Does it really have a larger heat pump than the washcombo? How could it that even fit inside it if so since it’s no larger than a standard washtower? How does it solve the lint problem if it’s that same design as a regular washtower dryer with the conventional lint filter? If the dryer in it’s so much bigger (7.2cf) than the drum in a washcombo (5.0cf), then does it work much better to dry clothes even if the heat pump and power usage is the same as the washcombo just because it has more room inside the drum to move the contents around while drying?
The specs of the heat pump washtower say that while you’re supposed to use a 240V/30A circuit, it only actually uses “4.1 amps” at 240V, which is only 8.2A at 120V, well below power delivered by the 120V 15A circuit required for a WashCombo.
Long story short, most people in market for a WashCombo could just as easily accommodate a heat pump WashTower in the same physical space, as the only difference is height. And even the height isn’t as different as it looks since the WashCombo realistically needs about a foot of clear space above it to comfortably access the top-mounted lint filter while the WashTower needs no space above it. Both are the same width, and the WashTower is actually a couple inches shallower.
Price also is same (often $2,000 on sale).
I need to make a decision soon, and would really appreciate a real review and test video from someone comparing these 2.

Update on 2 GE Profile Combo Units... as of today, approximately 50 to 60 loads have been run in each unit with 0 buildup of "anything" on the Coil / Condenser!
The modified filters have 0 issues.
I vacuum the filters minimum once a week or when the machine notifies to do it. Once a week for me is laundry for 5 people across both machines.
I continue to post videos of the modified filters during the cleaning process and inspect the modifications, and they are holding up Excellent.
I will be putting together kits to be sold for the people that do not want to source the items and make everything fit on their own. I will prepare pre-done Kits of everything that is needed with simple instructions to follow that will take no more than 5 to 10 Minutes to complete.
Kits as of now will start at $35- + Shipping. Includes pre-cut weather stripping for Top and Bottom, Weather stripping for the Rear, and a choice of upgraded Filter Pad. Electrostatic style or Merv 8 Style Media is white color on entry side, and (tacky) surface on exit side. The tacky surface stops the finer particles from passing through the filter. The pads are washable, however as of 2 months on them, vacuuming is working just fine.
For the best protection, you can just replace them every 4 to 6 months also. The tacky surface will collect the finest of lint and keep it out of the coil without causing restriction of airflow. The primary screen is the biggest area that needs to be kept clean.
Latest addition to the Filter also includes Plastic hold down washers to keep the pad centered and locked in place so no gaps can occur in the housing.
I spent a lot of time and money to make this bullet proof, and it keeps my OCD in check LOL.
Contrary to what end users believe, if you do not modify the filter, cleaning it after every load will actually cause more problems. The reason for this is lint is getting on or past the upper and lower rail assembly and working its way past the filter. Every time you pull out the filter, clumps of lint will get by or shoved to the rear of the assembly which cannot easily be seen or cleaned.

I'm about to watch the video and am looking forward to it.
I currently have an LG washer (top load) that Consumer Reports said was a best buy in 2014 (can't believe we've had it for 10 years!). It tends to tangle up the clothes and will not run if the garage is too hot. Texas summers are no joke so we really have to time the laundry carefully. I wish the washer and dryer hookups were inside the house. No matter what cycle we choose it doesn't seem to add enough water so there are times when some of the clothes don't get all the submerged.
We had an LG refrigerator that required the compressor to be replaced aftwr 4 years and it completely died last summer.... only lasted a total of 6 years (compressor was replaced about 2 years before it died at a cost of almost $1000, not covered under warranty). I'm really skittish about getting another LG appliance.
Ive had good luck with GE but that was before they were bought by Haier. Still I would love one of these combo machines that doesn't take all day to dry. We have about 10 to 15 minutes after the washer stops to get the clothes into the dryer before they start smelling mildewy when it's hot outside.

Do you know what the spin speed is set at? Bedding is defaulted to a very low value, and that may be why. I tried to do the load of towels+blankets on bedding, and the time to dry was horrific. Like 5-6hrs to dry. But then I realized it was on medium spin. Towels is on high or very high, and it drained so much more water out, it was crazy.

    • @kylel4361
      @kylel4361 Před 3 měsíci

I tried different spin speeds including the spin only setting and every time the pillows would get unbalanced and bang around and it would stop spinning before it got going fast. I pulled them out and rung them out myself in the sink and afterwards that allowed them to spin and dry. I wasn't sure if this was normal with a front load washer, the pillows did absorb a lot of water and were pretty heavy.

The first thing I did out the box was mount an appliance moving wheel base to its bottom so I can slide out for service when needed. That worked out perfectly. Next up is a floor drain for a flood contingency. Noteworthy to mention is a couple years ago I spent a month in Italy and my place provided a very small wash unit in the kitchen. In my unprofessional opinion,
      1. I would run the cleaning cycle First,
2.Then remove the Hoses off the rear of the unit,
      3. Open the Drain Filter Door. As an additional option, put a Wet Dry Vac on the Drain for a second.
      4. Empty out the Soap and Fabric dispensers, clean them well.
      5. Leave the door cracked open
      6. Unplug from Electric.
Good to go. The Unit will dry itself after the cleaning.

can I be first in line for the undoubted lack of human effort returns? I really think just swapping the LG Motor in the back of the GE unit would make it the best.
    and crackercheese > pizzapretzel, imho.
