Which is your favourite at RAF LAKENHEATH, the F-15E or the F-35A?
The F-35s at Lakenheath are the A variant and they have some very unique characteristics of the three main variants. They have a 'Vulcan-like' howl and although they cannot hover, they are the variant of the ABC that can pull +9Gs. They are incredible to watch and hear.
RAF Lakenheath is the home of the 48th Fighter Wing. Armed with four fighter squadrons which include the 492nd FS, 493rd FS, 494th FS and the newly reactivated 'Valkyries', the 495th Fighter Squadron.
Although the base carries the name of RAF, it is in fact a UNITED STATES AIR FORCE. Historically, the 48th FW has been the foundation of USAFE's combat capability and remains so today...it is known as LIBERTY WING. All aircraft belonging to RAF Lakenheath will carry the tail code LN. If you see an aircraft with different letters, then youve seen an aircraft from a different airbase....
So a little intro to the fighter squadrons:
492nd are the Bolars and Madhatters, they fly the F15E Strike Eagle
493rd are the legendary GRIM REAPERS. They were briefly deactivated with their F-15C and F-15D in April 2022 but have been requipped with the F35A oooooh yeah
The 494th are nicknamed the Panthers and fly the F-15E Strike Eagle
Finally, we have the 'Valkyries', the 495th Fighter Squadron who became the first overseas USAF to operate the F-35A...oooooh yeah! They were reactivated after 30 years on the 1st October 2021

Wow wee that was a day and stream of note. I arrived at 6.10am but misty conditions delayed until 1pm approx. But they made up for it. Only 26 take off's? and a dozen or so quick climbs. Ted brought it today. After a late start due to freezing Fog-age! Multiple F35 quick climbs (16 x QC from memory) and 6 x F15 Quick climbs. Plus Skyhawk and 3 x Alpha Jets. What a day! Ive Really enjoy my week out and about with TCS witnessing some breathtaking Jet action. Some marvellous fweeps from F15E's. F35 low approaches with REALLY LOUD F35/F15. Quick climbs from the F35s came one after the other. Like sleek bullets, they fly vertical in a blink of an eye.
Great to see Arjen and Aimee, Mark and Ali there. They new Ted was calling it? Plus there were some evening Quick climbs after stream ended. See Members Video 1/12/23. Literally came out on pad as Stream finished and signed off lol 😂(4 × F15E). 2 x F35 quick climbs after Nikos left. But don't tell him 😅😂! Ssssh between you and me.
Fantastic action made even more exciting with positive energy in viewing area.
Quality of filming etc has become the norm! But is very well done. Ted, The Reggies, Red Ted , Wingy and Lakey all came to the Heath. Impressive day from the gentleman that is Nikos!! And the Boss Ted!!

Oiii oiiii Daniel. This was an incredible week finishes off with Lakenheath in the company of great people and bears. Arjen, Aimee, Ali, Clyde, Julian and lots of lovely people such Nuno from Portugal, a USAF airman Ben along with Ken and then millions of bears AND of course yourself… just superb. Oh and then the flying part… well no words other than and Ooooohhhh yeah. What a treat to have the sunset quick climbs which was a first for the TCS.
It’s been a fantastic week started off with the TCS Party. Ohhh yeah
Well watched the best QCF on Saturday and it did not disappoint it was spectacular without a doubt so many planes, planes, planes, F15, F35, Alfa Jets, and Sky Hawk where did they all come from so cool. Ted, Wingy and Reggie were in their element Nikos they are a credit to you. Thanks to the Spanners as well. What a way to start December see everyone on Tuesday at Coningsby home of the Ted and of course the Typhoons bye for now. By the way ordered my Fweep shirt yesterday fweeeeeeeeeeep Loved the fire engines beep, beep right back at yaaaaah gorgeous
