    Yesterday I sewed my first horsehair braid hem on a prom dress and this video was so helpful! Navy tulle outer layer with a 2 inch wide braid, that I cut off and reused. I got it on the first try by going slow and using the tips in this video. Thank you so much for this channel. The way you describe things is soooo helpful!

    Hello, I just found your page a while back and I want to thank you for taking the time, care and love to share your gift. That is awesome and very helpful. Blessing to you. I started my home business late 2017. I sew Formal, Casual wear, Leather and Heavy material. I worked in sewing factories in the 90s and it has been helpful in starting my business. They all have closed down and moved over seas. I had changed jobs for years but now I have the privilege to sew again and love it. It is such a blessing to get together and share things. I feel as of now, I don't know what I could share, because you cover everything so perfect and thoroughly. What a great teacher.

      You are a Gift from the Lord. Its so sad that people have a hard time loving one another. You make it possible for others to succeed and make something of them selves. You make it possible for me. I live in a small town and I need to sew multiple stuff to stay busy as of right now and I still need to learn more about bridal/formal wear because I want to do really nice work like yours. Its beautiful what you do. Thank you immensely! @@BridalSewing

    I am a dress consultant who recently entered bridal and this channel has been so wonderful! I'm able to understand dress alts much more clearly than I could learn in-store and it is a very soothing thing to put on when winding down for the day. Thank you so much for creating this space!

    I love this. Just keeps things fresh in my head as a fellow seamstress. I would love to see a tutorial on your hand sewing techniques and different hand needles used for that. I

      @BridalSewing  Před 6 lety

      Erin Borgmann I would like to do series on that in the future! Of course, you can tell in this video that sewing quickly and accurately is the goal. I didn't do any type of fancy hem stitch for this hem. It is usually not really necessary. It's really just if the client wants that extra tiuch of craftsmanship. Most brides now-a-days prefer the finshed product to look good on the outside, but be as quick/affordable as possible.

    How does one stop the needle from snagging in the braid? Use a jersey needle. I'm amazed that I have never seen that in a tutorial.

    Good job! Another popular hem is the encased (bubble) hem where the horsehair is inside of the lining. What is your method? Would you taper such a hem?

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  Před 6 lety +1

      Custom Fit/Couture Alterations I hoping for that to be my next hem tutorial. I am doing a series to create a playlist here that will include every common bridal hem. :) & Yes, def taper all of the hems.

  • @mokobylysaofficial5867

    I love this technique looks so clean , I have a question can we use this technique with the wider horsehair ?

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  Před 5 lety

      Maybe? It may buckle though. Usually this is found on an A-line gown. The fuller the fabric, (ballgown type) the more likely it can take a wider braid.

    I looked for info on 5” horsehair braid. Didn’t find it. This dress had. 5” hhbraid attaches to a layer of organza, underneath, stitches at the top and loose on the bottom. Never have I seen this before. Had religious experience with it. Cursing, praying, pleading. That stuff has a life of its own. Got any tips for this? Hope that I don’t get another. 😈. Essenes of Australia gown. Love love love your tutorials. Thank you so much!!!

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  Před 4 lety

      I need to do a sourcing vid...
      First off- Gold Standard. If the bride has time, you tell her to order the yardage from tge manufacturer herself. She does this through the store she bought the gown from.
      If she can't do that, try to reuse whst came on the dress. If there's not quite enough, you may need to taoer the skirt side seams a little to make the total circumference of the hem edge less.
      If that won't work and you can't source this online, try NYC. Search the actual retail *store* phone number for the garment district in Manhattan. Call Botani and Pacific Trimming. When you call, please tell them Brenda from Bridal Sewing Techniques sent you. They may not know me, but over time, they may become familiar with my name.
      When you call, you need to specify width, stiffness, color, and opacity. Usually Essence of Australia uses a medium to light stiffness that is semi transparent. It's not the stiff solid color plastic kind, usually.
      Hope this helps!! :)

      Girl, I ripped that stuff off and put it right back on, after I fought it tooth and nail to get it fit. She is coming today to take this home, after a final fitting. Thank you for the holla back. If I had a smart tv (regular one) in my sewing room, I’d never get anything done, I’d be watching your videos!

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  Před 5 lety +1

      Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. There's no special reason. Well... maybe sometimes I like to bring it up closer to me? It isn't something I consciously choose. :)

      @@BridalSewing I understand. Thank you for replying. I would like to see how the new hem looks like after altering.
      Do you have an example of sewing a zip?

    • @BridalSewing
      @BridalSewing  Před 5 lety +2

      Yes. Several ppl mentioned missing seeing an after pic on this one. It can be hard for me to remember & merge images, because my video set up is in the back. I only have my cell phone with me in the front studio. I'm not the best at getting an image out front that I can use for you guys in a video.
      The only vid I have right now that shows zipper work is "How to take up a gown at the zipper". Look through my library for it & see if it helps. ❤
