  • IEEE Audio Video Bridging and Professional Audio:
A Preview of What’s Coming by Guy Fedorkow
    Tues. March 9th, 7pm
Boston College - Walsh Function Room
Ethernet is the most widely-deployed technology in the history of networking, and is continuing to gain ground. This talk will describe on-going work undertaken by the IEEE 802.1 Audio/Video Bridging (AVB) group to standardize the transmission of real-time audio and video content across Ethernet networks, enabling many new applications where A/V gear, computers and networking equipment can be connected together without special cables, proprietary interfaces and unusual adapter cards. We’ll cut through some of the Ethernet jargon to understand how the AVB protocols work, and what they can and cannot do, and how the work might change the world of professional and consumer audio and video.
Guy C. Fedorkow has years of experience in computer networking at Bolt, Beranek and Newman, and at Cisco Systems, where he worked in both development of communications products and also networking standards. He’s currently working for Adamson Systems Engineering as a consultant on development of AVB standards and equipment.
