Exquisite gorgeousness from planet gong ❤
What a treat to hear this ... Daevid, Gilli, Kevin (All sadly missed) and friends playing their unique music. Loved them then and still love them now. Gong forever.
Psst: get that big box set
What a lovely visit to the plush velour womb that is Planet Gong.
One of the greatest dope bands ever.
J’ai vu Gong en concert à la grande époque du " Camembert électrique " dans les années 75/80 ....un grand souvenir des utopies de notre jeunesse un peu folle !!! David Allen est maintenant pour toujours sur la planète Gong ....with à cup of tea !!
Gong had a reputation for being anarchic, but they were a very tight band.
RIP Daevid. Love you forever.
A fantastic group with no obligation to be popular. I saw ayers and Allen in Mtl end of the nineties and they still awesome . Even by young people who knew all the lyrics of the song. The banana show ! I'm glad to have seen them.
Spent some time with Daevid , Dada to all his family xxx your light still shines brightly in my life , say hi to Orlando
A band that lived in a world of their own.
mistery-ed And what a wonderful world.
It's a world I too want to live in ,the Planet Gong seems a very happy green place 😊x
Lovely comment btw
@@sophiew1967 My wonderful mate Rich bumped into Daevid Allen in Glastonbury. We'd both liked Gong for years. He went up to him and said "I know you probably get this a lot but I just want to say......" and before he'd even finished Daevid Allen just blanked him and walked away. Maybe Daevid Allen was just having a bad day. Maybe he's a wanker..... but tbh we just both laughed about this. Sometimes ALL people are dickheads.
@@sophiew1967.
I would be happy if you jumped in with me , I’m a Teapot Taxi pilot xx Velllllllllllly niiice to meeeeeet you x
great memories of a magick time of my life
Kevin + Gong = Magic!
Gong alone is already magic, with Kevin it's double magic!
the greatest Magick Brother / Mystic Sister intro ever ... my heart leaps with its every move
Cetainly more cheerful
And uplifting then the studio version which I love very much for its sense of mystery enigma and darker vibe
Intergalactic hippietimetravelling cicularmotion kindoff nothings ever going to be better than this babieieiii
… 50 years, and always in my hearth …
It would be better in your heart!
Get the big box set, kid
Kevin Ayers + The Whole World was Magic!
I live in their world too!
My stepson is a brilliant guitarist, and has a 3 man-band of his own,
Since he heard some of the gong recordings, live and records, he's completely into the psychedelic sound of gong now, he plays terrific jams now!
(he normally plays Hendrix-stuff)
Gong's world is still alive and kicking! Apparently an inspiration for the young musicians of today!
i’m only 18 and i’m here by search so yea i suppose Gong is an influence on younger musicians like myself but i’d say even more so is the whole era of exploration that is the 1960’s like the canterbury/cambridge scene and the fluxus movement in classical with John Cage and Stockhausen La Monte Younh post bop free jazz and the beginning of fusion it truly seems most artists that came form the 60’s were all pushing towards the unknown i know this is 70’s but i think of Daevid Allen i think of the 60’s like soft machine
King gizzard’s Paper Mache Dream Balloon
les elfes de mon adolescence , forever
First saw them in the seventies at Reading festival, more recently with Steve Hillage at Newcastle uni.A better world I've never visited.
My goodness. The music of 1966 to 1973, rock and jazz both (and often combined), somehow opened a rift in the firmament and gave us an earful of the beyond.
Yeah, though it's doing the first half of the decade a disservice to forget Motown, Dylan and the Folk Revival Movement, as well as the Beatles/British Invasion, which formed the backdrop to the period 1966-73. To me, the magical period is two decades long--1955-75--from (about) the start of rock and roll to just before disco. Am I right?
@@dantean Yes, that's about right, especially if you include the cinema.
Beyond wonderful...
Sad about the passing of ayers & Allen..
aren't we all here to pass...
Tropical fish- amazing performance. Classic!!
Best cover of Clarence in wonderland
The Soft Machine versions are the best, it's just a shame that the available versions have pretty ropey sound quality.
❤❤❤❤❤
la meilleur période de gong
bien dit
yeah i really like this version of magic brother great stuff fine version ive seen gong live many times always great live & i saw here & now a few times as well, but a truly great band with many line ups rip daevid & gilly great post peace...
La meilleure période de Gong et ce jusqu'à l album YOU
What a lovely find! These are very familiar songs, but the purity and clarity here is wonderful, interesting to hear Gilly with almost no echo, so sweet. I found the record on discogs 😊
one of my all time faves
This is the definitive “Clarence in Wonderland” by Kevin Ayers with Gong.
What? A comedy Reggae version? I don't think so mate.
This is like the essence of all that is Peel live broadcast
Fantastic!
Danke für diesen Besuch in meiner Jugendzeit! Das treibt mir wirklich Tränen des Glücks in die Augen!
Hab sie gesehen im Auenland in Suelfeld S.H.
Super, and so well recorded.
Peels was the great DJ at the time
BBC engineers?......
Pretty sure this was recorded at the BBC Maida Vale studios.
@@fuccasound3897 V good, levels can be low.
Utterly fantastic -- not sure I can listen to anything else today. I used to have all the records, but you know how that goes.
Bravissimo!
Saw them at the Lanchester Poly Coventry back in the day. Remember Lol Coxhill rambled on to the stage at some point. Lovely wackey stoned times. God rest their souls. So much enjoyment and fun.Kevins voice was amazing but he had little interest in comercial success.
Avec l'inimitable Lol Coxhill !
Happier Daze!!
Kevin described his short period with Daevid an Gong as stunning and strange. He simply flipped with his friend and master Daevid. "Clarence In The Wonderland" was later included in Kevin's second album but it sounds more 'rambler'.
oh brilliant thanks for posting - I recorded this from the radio back then onto a cassette that was nicked by two dutch travellers we said could crash at our student house for a night! More than great to hear again.
Think of the joy you brought to those weary travelers ...lol
WOW ! WOAUOW ! Simply Beautiful !
Thank you for posting this.
Amazing progressive rock band of the world.
Merci.
никогда не слышал ранее, очень приятная компания
When music was art and not become rich and with "likes". I think there was a lot of ingenuity
Thanks for this
Took English class high School I failed but now I know why almost genius
KILLER!!! Is it Pip on drums? Eveyrone SLAYS this! What an amazing band!
awesome to hear David on lead! pretty much never happened later on
Daevid is one of my biggest influences as a guitarist! Sure, Steve Hillage played clean and fluid, but Daevid's guitar work was mad, and I love it!
Kevin Ayers joins Gong as semi-permanent member (all gigs until January 1972)
9/11/71 London, BBC Studios (Top Gear)
my dear dada goddess
So sad Kevin had his accident when he did, I can imagine him staying with Gong for much much longer than he did, the music would certainly have been pure Gong still but I do think that we would never have had Hillage, Blake and Moerlen as I think PIP may have remain with Gong a little longer had Kevin been there.
likeeeeeeeeeeeee
This is a lovely trip....drug free....nearly.
You must agree Didier is the best sax player ever. !
Let me know of anyone better.
I suppose it's KEVIN on the bass, the improvisations get much more exciting. Gong getting a bit Soft Machine.
And I guess, a part of Gillie and Didier, the other guys are Christian Trietsch & Pip Pyle. Correct me, please, if I'm wrong. Amazing stuff this recording !
I'm guessing this is either Tritsch or possibly Archie Leggett playing bass and not Kevin. I think it's a bit advanced for Kevin's playing. I could easily be wrong, though.
& I believe rhe young'un is Samuel Wyatt..
It's Christian tritsch..
Did that just go into 'set the controls for the heart of the sun'? Or am I tripping?
18:30 Selene 😉
Cheez Pleez
What was this line up ?
No albums with this configuration?
Thanks
Kevin Ayers, Daevid Allen, Gilly Smith, Pip Pyle, Didier Melherbe and Christian Tritsch
i heard these tracks on a album called history and mystery of gong ,probably could source from the gong appreciation society
@@Vibracobra23_Original Steve Hillage?
@@beahafkenscheid8421 No, not on this one, just those listed above.
The bass in Clarence sounds like Ob-la-di Ob-la-da :)
…and it’s a kind of a Ska version 😂
I Love the photograph that accompanies this , does anyone know who the people are in the picture? , I think it is Kevin Ayers with the bowl on his head and Daevid Allen sat cross legged in the middle but who are the others?
didier in the red pants
Gilli in the front with head turned ...not sure if the kid is Tally or Orlando ...Bloomdido in the red pants to the right...Kevin behind Gilli ...not sure if thats Tim Blake standing ...Rest in peace guys ...miss ya
@@gilwood7530 aw thank you , many decades ago I used to study my older brothers copy of Camambert Electrique and the photo on the back of that album was the most interesting picture of alternative living my childish eyes had ever seen 😂 I was hooked.
@@lesleyt4327 I worked on the America reunion / solo tours in the 90s ...the most beautiful people you could ever meet ! Theres a reason Gilli is the mother of everything !!!
Pretty sure it's Pip Pyle (drummer) standing in the background on the right.
And by the way, what does he carry on his head the KEVIN ? Is it a cup of tea ? Or a bowl of soup ?
Maybe a bowl…from “Im a bowl”?
Bettween : Zappa ; Soft Machine ; Beefhart ; Doors ; Stepin'''wolf ; Wayne Horrwitz ; John Zorn...
Nick Drake on Gong? Hehe
🩵
Funny
CHEESE PLEASE!!!!
Camembert
Have a cup of tea have another one
Trietsch or Tritsch, but what does Kevin do then ?
Just sing on one song ?
This was on the cassette "Alien Goes Over The Top". The credits there said Kevin was on guitar.
If the photo here is contemporary then it's Submarine Captain, Kevin, Gilli, Daevid, Pip Pyle (I think) and Bloomdido.
Enough good guitar player & a lot metrics :: good expérimentale stuff
🍄🌼🍌
Who's the kid?
Probably Gilli's son, or Daevid's. He does some brief vocals on "Magick Brother".
Remaster it.
Disappointing. I'm a fan of Kevin Ayers, but this is rambling and self-indulgent. I don't know how he got roped into it.
Gong, and Kevin aswell, may be sometimes rambling and self-indulgent, but I don't feel it here. Kevin got "roped" into it because he was a close friend of Daevid, and his partner with Robert Wyatt in the first Soft Machine !
Yeaaah.. I don't know about that.
Have you tried the [3-(2-Dimethylaminoethyl)-1H-indol-4-yl] dihydrogen phosphate tea yet?
I believe it is the best version of Clarence in wonderland
@@dbyrd No, but I bet Harrods have got it.
You really had to be there, Kevin was a member of Gong, and, they had great THC chemistry together, for one lp, enjoy Bananamoon
