You'll find that the plastic case has significantly reduced turbulence, as the front is designed to interrupt the vortex generated from the fan and convert it to forward motion, this has the advantage of creating more vacuum behind the fan, forcing more air into the cage, and making it more efficient. More air movement per watt vs more noise per watt.

i am using this XGT fan daily in my shop. I chuck it on low setting with a 5ah battery. It's been a week and still 1 bar left.
Oh man I wasn't planning to upgrade to 40v for some time but you really are making it hard to resist the temptation....
I was eager for your review of this, even though i bought this fan about a couple months ago. Im really happy with it. Ive been using this for my home gym, but as it is getting hotter, it will not be quite enough. I havent even tried it with the batteries yet but i plan to use it when i sit outside to ward off bugs. I love how quiet it runs, and the settings/timer make it easy to use. Glad i bought this.
I would still need to replae the ceiling fan in my home gym but this makita fan has been awesome to have

So call both 230 m/min, that difference is pretty negligible. But what they should be stating on the box is cubic meters per hour, m³/h (or CFM - cubic feet per minute if they're using Freedom units) as those are the standards for fan output.

I returned 3 of 18v fans because they all sounded like they had a bearing going out , ended up just keeping the quietest one and sounds similar to yours. Great comparison. I have been watching all of your 40v stuff , can't decide if i really need any of it since I have tons of makita 18v stuff.
The noise is generated by a voltage regulator that regulates the voltage in pulses. The fan blades act like a loudspeaker in this case, after removing the fan from the motor, this noise is practically inaudible. It is also inaudible when using a 12v power supply as the motor is also on 12v. The problem arises when the battery voltage (18v) is reduced to 12v

@@jetli6959 Both have same 12V TE00000528 MOTOR ASSY , thats also what the AC adaptor gives ,12 V 3,5 A and thats same on both 18 v and 40 v version .
So you should be able to run that fan with a car battery :-) Makita is nice when it provides spare part charts .
@@pete_lind Thank you Pete for the suggestion. I am going to order the 18v version of this. I have the metal 18 volt version in this video. Appears the new 18v version is much more efficient. Definitely going to try running it off a car battery while at a cabin in a couple of weeks that doesn't have power. Thanks again.
The design of the blade has a huge impact on all aspects.
If you get bored see if you can swap the blades between the two…
40v is brushless, more energy efficient
Can barely find makita stuff in Canada as dewalt and milwaukee must have paid off everyone to not carry this once venerable brand. I have some better built makita tools I ordered online and they are as good or better than my top of the line dewalt and my fuel. Their stuff at home depot is second rate home owner grade tools. Its no wonder there isn't more demand.

I actually prefer the 18 volt due to durability reasons. The new 40 volt looks cheap tbh.

i have the 12V fan
the motor is brushed and it lasted ~2yrs only and the brush is non replaceable
the motor+lead assembly is ~15usd +shipping which make repairing not cost effective.
these 40v and 18v fans are also brushed.
so NO
based on specs, 40v is brushless.. while the 18v on the video us brushed, broke mine in less than a year for using it everyday, average of 18hrs daily
