    4:37 For what ever reason this is making me think of how mannequins in Elder Scrolls Skyrim are actually NPCs with a wooden skin put on them that are frozen in place. Sometimes the scripts that are meant to keep them still fail and causes them to move from their intended positions. This can occasionally cause them to move somewhere else and completely freeze in place. Other times they'll be completely animate and actually walk around. It's legitimately one of the most unsettling glitches in the game.

  • @Yveldi
    @Yveldi Před 2 lety +205

    I think the reason why the mannequin at 48:50 is so unnerving is because he looks scared, almost as if it was hiding from something before you walked in. Compared to the "IDGAF" attitude of the other mannequins, it is really odd to see one of them in such a vulnerable pose. Upon further thought, I think that pose even supports a theory I had when watching the video: What if the mannequins turn most of their victims into mannequins, too? That would explain why most of the coworkers involved are lost with no explanation, it would explain why the turret thinks that the mannequin is a valid target, and it would also explain the human-like poses of some of the mannequins like they WERE humans moments ago.

    The things that really contribute to the uneasiness an eeriness is how in regular portal, every somewhat human you interacted with was sentient, and spoke to you like a human. This time around, these humanoid objects do not interact with you. Whenever you see them, they are silent, immobile, and do nothing but stand there, bringing in heavy use of the “uncanny valley,” due to the fact they look human but aren’t. Another factor is that the setting is STILL the main portal map; this absolutely enormous, gargantuan, massive industrial nightmarish megastructure that seems to go on for infinity of which lies in absolute stillness, almost entirely abandoned. Every source engine game has this, but Portal and Portal 2 REALLY brought home that idea; the idea of traces of a modern society:cities and their sounds, large buildings that reach the clouds, etc., but despite all this modernization, there is no one. Not a single soul seen ANYWHERE, and yet you know that they were, at one point, there, because if they weren’t, then everything around you wouldn’t be there either. No buildings or sounds, nothing.

    Part 1 things!
    When you look at the monitor screen in the area with the broken catwalk, it's supposed to show the room with the chair past it with a mannequin sitting in the chair
    The mannequin that falls from the rack disappears after you check the e-mail (likely making it the mannequin snooping on you around the corner that appears at this point)
    Part 2 things!
    The mannequin at the end at the computer is supposed to have an animation where they type on it, and then turn around to face you with their brand new mask on before you can check the e-mail they sent.
    Part 3 things!
    You can pickup the moving mannequins

    12:00 That's the whole concept behind the main monster, aptly named "Shade", in The Evil Within DLC's. It's basically a walking spotlight on a pair of high heels. The idea's pretty smart since the DLC's mechanics mainly revolve around finding your way in complete darkness, and the flashlight is the only thing you have constantly. It sort of mirrors the protagonist's theme of revealing secrets by shining a light on them. I still think that game's a bit underappreciated.

      I disagree i thought the first evil within game in a lot of ways was scarier and had a lot more to offer in terms of terrifying bosses while the evil within 2 the only original memorable enemies in it that were scary were Stefano valentini ,obsura,anima, & the guardian which is the lady with the saw arm
      But other than that i don't find it as scary cuz pretty much after you kill Stefano valentini a lot of the scary atmosphere it was having is now gone instead of it being nightime its now day & Theodore is such a boring replacement for Stefano & the final boss in t he evil within 2 is no where near as epic as the final boss in the first game the final boss in the first game was insane u were running through buildings etc & use a machine gun on top of a vehicle while floating to shoot at the monstrosity & then u get flung & impaled & have to use a rocket launcher to finish it off as it inches closer to u now what is the final boss in the evil within 2 ShOoT GlOwY ReD SpOtS thats it that is such a downgrade for a final boss no intense moments with it just shoot the glowy red spots & kill minions that spawn & t o say that shade is the best thing from the first evil within is an understatement don't get me wrong shes terrifying but she isn't the only great monster enemy in the first evil within what about laura & her chase sequence introduction what about the giant monster abomination that you fight in a traffic area those were pretty scary moments don't get me wrong i love the evil within 2 but it arguably falls apart in terms of horror after Stefano dies compare that to the evil within 1 while yes has a lot of action towards the end arguably has a lot more horror throughout the entire game

    How cool would it have been if at the end of part 3, you come home, and inside you can see your family spending time together in the living room, but you can’t actually go to them yet, your character says something like “I’ve got to hit the bathroom first” or something like that. You head to the bathroom and once inside, you look in the mirror, and see that you are a mannequin. Then it ends. It’d be one more final jump scare, and cutting to black after that one could only imagine what would be in store for his family. This is actually how I thought it would end

    It seems that many parts that were supposed to be played didn't. The security cameras not working, the mannequin sending the emails not turning around to show that it was wearing the face of your friend. It seems that many parts of the map broke.

    Man, there’s just something about Valve’s atmosphere in their games that give off a creepy vibe at certain points like feeling like you’re being watched but you’re really the only person there, which makes it a lot more unsettling, I think Valve’s games do very well at capturing that feeling when you look at the small but creepy looking stuff in the background that make you feel like you’re not alone.

    I think that the kneeled over mannequin was scary because the map already set up the fact that these things are alive, and you found one in a position that shows that either its dead or that it was never alive, which your brain doesn't like the implications of, or another explanation is that its crouched in a prone position, as if its hiding or getting ready to strike, neither of which are very nice ideas
