I didn't turn on All Star Wrestling every week to watch the High Flyers, the best part was interviews with Jesse. He did enough in the ring, and his mouth filled the stands.
But Greg's right
Word, and a Handshake, Is True,
for somebody who apparently lies about everything, he is right about a lot
It's amazing how every bad thing that happened to the AWA wasn't the fault of the Gagnes.
Adrian Adonis was an outstanding performer. His gaining all that weight hampered it all.He began to lose it and regained his skills. He was tragically killed in that accident.
How is that even when he was fat he could kick tail if you just mean that he look horrible them I agree also that horrible character that Vince shitbrain force him to perform it was just an insult to his skills.
@@AngelSanchez-dw4gs Absolutely.Had I been him,I would have refused to do that.McMahon got so lewd I quit watching after the mid '90's.
Adonis was a bully, He was mean spirited, loved to hurt jobbers. He intimidated people until he met a bigger bully. Jessie was a team player and never hurt anyone. If the script called for the East/West connection to lose, Jessie would take the pinfall, and it never diminished his heat.
@@scoh840Dan Spivey put Adrian in his place without a doubt.
1000% I agree!!
Bobby Heenan, I knew this
At least jesse was a great announcer..
Fun fact, they all 3 live in Minnesota just a few miles apart
Jesse lives in Mexico
Jesse's lived in Mexico for at least 10 years now
I think Jesse had a ranch in Corcoran (or Maple Grove) at one point. Verne was from Corcoran, but I don't know if him or Greg had a place out there at the time Jesse was there.
JESSE, VENTURA,WAS THE MAN,
AND A HELL OF A TALKER, HELL OF A WORKER,
AND ONE OF THE GREATEST ANNOUNCER,
You got 2 out of 3 right. He was rubbish as a worker.
@@St_AngusYoung WELL 2 OUT OF 3 AIN'T BAD INIT, 😂
Ugh, no Jesse was a horrible wrestler - Talker and Announcer yes
Can't say he was a great worker. He was one of the worst actually. His strength was on the mic.
Even Jesse would say he wasn’t a good worker in the ring
Jesse's wrestling style was more on the awkward side....But sometimes, personality can carry you.
Jesse Ventura was a great talker and had a good look but was no good in the ring. Anyone who doubts it can find classic Jesse Ventura matches which are usually ten minutes of stalling outside the ring followed by two minutes of Jesse on offense followed by a DQ or countout.
Ventura was better in tag matches. Especially with a great performer like Adonis in there to do most of the work for him. Jesse could come in and do a few power spots and not be in the ring long enough to get winded.
The WWF originally thought that they could put Jesse into main events with guys like Hulk Hogan. But then when they saw what Jesse was like in the ring, they made him an announcer.
Have you seen the CZcams of Bobby Heenan burying Jesse? ("When the bell rang...forget it. He couldn't work!!"). Greg pretty much confirmed it.
@gregbailey8253 That story, like alot of stories Jesse Ventura tells, is probably not true. I remember back in the 1980s when part of that story was that he got the clots from herbicides when he was fighting in Vietnam. Except that he never fought in Vietnam. If you look at match results and when Jesse stopped wrestling, if there were blood clots they were amazingly coincidental blood clots.
Jesse Ventura in singles matches was worse than even Ivan Putski. Putski would at least get into the ring and try to do something. Jesse didn't even do that.
Jessie never saw combat but he was deployed to Vietnam and spent time in the jungles.@@Jim-Tuner
@@christopherjames9843 Jesse says he was deployed to Vietnam, but that its such a national secret that he can't say where or when. Typical Jesse Ventura BS.
Uh, He has a Vietnam Service Medal.@@Jim-Tuner
AWA is the only promotion you hear about where nearly every single person who left them who was important didn’t honor their dates. Maybe Vince paid them all to do it. I think the talent thought they would be hurt/injured for leaving or so that Vince couldn’t use them. Bobby stated he was threatened when he gave notice and knew that he would be so he brought his wife to wait outside.
Verne loved Bobby Heenan. And yes Verne was a tough old Marine bastard. You had to be tough or the wrestlers would walk all over you. He always bragged that Bobby was the only talent that gave him fair notice.
Yes, Vince McMahon did screw the AWA Territory and Verne Gagne and there is a simple reason for it.
He could not compete against our talent. Think about it, Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura as commentator Mean Gene as lead interviewer, Curt Hennig IC Champ. Rick Martel our former world champ, Ricky Steamboat trained by Gagne.
Ric Flair who Verne had to beat his ass in front of his wife on his front lawn because he wanted to quit.
You tell me, take just the people I mentioned out of the WWF and the NWA and what would wrestling have looked like in the big 80s?
We now know what a sick freak Vince has always been. And all of the sexual degenerates that reside in the WWF.
At least with Verne, you had a tough old man who was always known to be a fair payoff guy and who didn't run his talent into the ground like circus animals. He gave his talent the summers off to spend with their families.
Heenan... RIP
Greg brought in Lou Thesz.
I saw Jesse single handedly wrestle the Highfliers, Jim Brunzel and Greg Gagne to an hour long draw. Jesse couldn't have been that bad.
Greg trained Verne. He told Verne to open his own promotion and call it the AWA.
Not that a anyone should care what I think, but I never liked Jesse as a wrestler and I didn't think much of him as a governor.
His son loved it because he got to party in the Governor's mansion and destroyed the place with his friends.
You’d prefer Gavin Newsome or perhaps George Traitor Bush, you most likely prefer pedo Joe as president too.
I'm surprised that Mad Dog didn't fullfill his obligations, if that's the case.
Awa was stocked with talent. Vince fleeced them 👋🤣
Jesse
I become frustrated when listening to Greg down play Jessie's in ring work. Jessie was indeed physically coordinated and put the business first, and he did indeed make everyone else look better. Look at the world famous match against the Fabuloso bros. The whole premise was that he bragged for months that he could beat both of them by himself. Wally would not sign the match unless Jessie got a partner. So Jessie gave Jake a break! When Jessie got beat to a pulp by the Fabuloso's and fell stumbling into his corner for the hot tag to Jake, He had the whole auditorium in an uproar. He looked hilarious doing it, he elevated the Fabuloso's, He elevated Jake to Jobber mount Rushmore Status.
😂😂
Bobby the Brain said he wasn’t that good in the ring either. Numerous ppl have said it
@@casiemny1219 You are correct that numerous people make that claim. It is true that Jessie didnt know very many holds, but neither did Bruno Samartino, Hogan, or Superstar Graham. Big muscle bound guys tend to stomp, flex, and kick. In my defense I will say that Nobody has every shown me a video where someone got injured because of Jessie. Jessie wasn't dangerous. Nobody has ever shown a video where the finish got ruined or changed because of Jessie. Nobody has ever made a video of Jessie botches. I love the way Jessie sells for others. Jessie is a comic genius when he is ruffled or hurt. I feel he elevates his opponents.
Jesse had to left feet and skipped leg day. He called himself Jesse the body but was never built like Hogan and that drove him nuts😂
Sorry but Jesse sucked.
Verne Gagne was a great and honorable man. (Except when he murdered that guy at the old age home.)
Why would the interviewer say Hulk fulfilled his commitment when Verne tried to bribe The Iron Sheik to break Hogans leg for leaving early
#RIPAdrianAdonis
comments on jesse are lies. I saw jesse in person when he came to boston and he was active in the ring.
But we have videos of Jesse and he was horrible in the ring
Yeah. All the videos of Jesse wrestling bad singles matches that are on internet were generated by AI I guess.
Jesse was a cheaper copy of superstar billy Graham then Hogan is
Hogan was more of a cross between Graham and Austin Idol (Hulkamania was taken from Idolmania). Ventura was an outright Graham wannabe
Okay Greg, how many times did you and your father Shake Hulk Hogan's hand and promise him the title only to screw him over with screwjob finishes and kept Milking for everything it was worth? So when Vince McMahon comes a calling and offers to pay more to stay at home, I would say that was a smart business move on Hulk Hogan's part due to the fact that if the Gagne's were willing to pay the Iron Sheik to break Hogan's leg and if Hulk Hogan did fulfill his commitments, isn't it fair to say the Gagne's probably would have had him get hurt so therefore Hulk would not have gone to WWF / WWE and wrestling wouldn't be what it is today.
Greg was fantastic in the ring but his promos were beyond boring. Both Greg and Jim Brunzell were one of the best tag teams ever in all of wrestling and they could hold their own with any other tag team. But on the mic, they were a couple of choir boys.
I get frustrated when you people bad mouth the Awa
No one would know who Greg is if his Dad wasn't Verne Gagne. He was nothing compared to Jesse.
I still don’t know who he is
Greg was better in the Ring. While he didn't have the flashiness,or the Steroid body,he knew how to make it look like a Wrestling match. Almost as if he could use a Wrestling hold or 2. But I guess its the in thing to hate every Promoters kid but Shane. Oh and it seems to be popular to hate every Promoter from the old territory days.
Jesse looked great. Talked great. But once he stepped in the ring it was over. Jesse just couldn’t wrestle.
Greg Gagne sorta looks like balding Greg Brady.
I always thought that too. Lol
I thought he was boring away from The Hi Flyers and we called him Greg Brady as kids😂
Gagna Jr ruined AWA. Should have been a jobber , if that! Hope you apologized to your fellow employees once it was over....
WE SURE COULD USE JESSIE VENTURA FOR PRESIDENT RIGHT KNOW HELP ECONOMICS , TALK ALL THE LEADERS INTO PEACE ✌️ !!! TAKE CARE OF BORDER !!! THE GUY HAS THE TOOLS !!!
I think Jesse would be considered "woke" by a lot of voters, and he HATES Trump.
He always seems bitter.
Greg Gagne isn’t bitter. If only the various promotions had listened to him, things would have turned out quite differently and Greg would have assumed his rightly place on Pro Wrestling’s Mt. Rushmore. 😮
Let’s also not forget that Bob Geigel would have kept NWA Central States in Kansas City open for 10 more years if he had followed Greg’s advice.
Thumbs up if you appreciate the effort that goes into making such uplifting content!
