In this series, we travel to Venezuela, a beauitful country with a rich history, incredible food, welcoming people & good weather! Join me as I explore the Island of Margarita.
This was honestly so fun to put together, I really hope you guys enjoy watching it. As we go into winter here in Madrid, it reminds me of how much I loved my time here and miss it! To all the amazing people I met there and a big thank you to my friend Daleska for being the most incredible tour guide in this journey.

Hi. My name is Eliot. I visited Margarita Island in the mid 90's. I remember going to a concert at the military building. The Cuban band Orquestra Aragon was playing. I had a great time on Margarita Island. After I stayed there, I stayed in Caracas.
What did you think of Caracas back then?

I hope Venezuela can get things together again, and build up Tourism and their relationship with other countries like the USA. I would love to go back to Margarita Island and Caracas! I remember at that time my tour guide Jorges drove us up a mountain to the USA Embassy, and at that time they were building a brand new building for the US Embassy.
It's Eliot once again. My wife and I would walk around Caracas and shop and eat at various Restaurants. I remember going into a Venezuelan Record Store and purchasing 2 Records made in Venezuela. The covers title and song listings were in Spanish. See if you can figure them out. One was called Canciones De Amor by Los Beatles, the other one was Por Siempre Beatles?

Hi. It's Eliot again. I remember being on Margarita Island in the mid 90's and the USA Dollar got so high, all the Cambio shops pulled their gates down and closed. Here we were on Margarita Island with American Express Travelers Checks and we couldn't cash them. The Margarita Hilton was nice enough to cash our American Express Travelers Checks and we had plenty of money to spend on Margarita Island.
It's really interesting to hear about this, I can only imagine what it was like back then when business was booming😍. Thanks for sharing!

love the video, I spent a lot of time on Margarita about 10 years ago, my girlfriend who is now my wife lived there, it's wonderful, we bought an apartment there and intend to retire down there in 7-8 years

It's Eliot Again. When I was in Caracas, I stayed at the Caracas Hilton. My wife and I went to a restaurant not too far from the Hotel. At that time their President was accused of stealing money from the people. He was going on trial. Near the restaurant was a Government Building. As we were eating at the restaurant, a big explosion occured. I never felt anything like that. The waiters ran for the doors with wooden planks to prevent anyone from coming in. They told us it was a Bomb. Once things quieted down, they got us a cab. When we got back to the hotel, management was at the front apologizing for what happened. It turned out that the President that was on trial Bombed the basement of the Government building near the restaurant that we were at. The President blew it up because all the evidence was there. Other than that, I had an Amazing time!

I can’t find any information on the internet about how to properly get to the island. Can you please explain how you was able to successfully get on the island?
Of course, I booked a flight from Madrid to Caracas and then from there you walk from the international airport to the national airport. It's just next door, no more than a few minutes walk. I booked the flight from Caracas to Santiago Mariño Caribbean International Airport which is in Porlamar on Isla Margarita. The airline I used in Venezuela was Laser Airline from Caracas to Porlamar 🙂 if you have any issues, let me know and I'll see if I can help at all.

Can you withdraw Cash in Venezuela without Problems? Or you just bring Cash with you!
Hey, thanks for your comment 🙂 in my case my friend helped me out because I stupidly brought only my Revolut card which isn't supported in Venezuela.
That being said, make sure you check that your bank is accepted in Venezuela before your trip.
Assuming that your bank does function there, the ATMs do work but they are usually heavily limited as to how much you can take out from them, but the currency is USD.
If you want to take money out, your best bet is to physically go into a bank and request that way. A lot of places do simply just accept card though, but it's a good idea to have a little cash just in case.
I hope you consider going to Venezuela 😀 it's an incredible country filled with amazing people.

Hello. If you come to my country, bring cash, small bills are gonna be needed, and preferably US dollars. People accept dollars everywhere, not so much Euros, and the exchange rate for euros is gonna be the same as US dollars. ATM machines wont be operational 95% of the time, and if you can find one operational, it would pprobably give you 300 to 500 bolivares max, around 8 to 15 dollars. There are places that accept international credit cards but not many. Zelle payments is very common and many Venezuelan accept those kind of transfers, but I believe thats only for US banks, not sure. Theres also places that can give you cash as a REMESA, you deposit them usueally from another country and withdraw US dollars in their office, or you can go to exchange houses like Italcambio and buy dollars with any currency, but all of those process are slow so its better to bring enough cash and then use your credit card for hotels or restaurants that accept it and keep the cash for everyday small things, street food, travel cost, things like that. Even though everyone accepts US dollars, there are not many places that can give you small change so if you pay 6 dollars with a 10 dollar bill, they would probably give you 1 or 2 dollars back and the rest in bolivares, wich you will probably need to pay for the cents of dollar. There is no coins, so the cents would always be in bolivares, around 4 bolivares are 10 cents.
