    FS7 is still relevant! As I just purchased a secondhand Sony FS7, and it is nearly 2021. Because I found the FS7 at a *fantastic* price secondhand. And after six years with the Sony PMW-F3 I felt it was high time for an upgrade.

    Great overview. Both are excellent cameras, and the FS7 will still stand up for a while yet, but the FX9 looks like the new gold standard for broadcast/doc/corporate gigs.

    None of the features of the fx9 for me make the massive cost of it worth it. I'll be looking at an fs7, but great video. It really helped me make my choice

    I'm keeping my two FS7's as 'B' cams ... The FS7 is still a superb camera. The Fx9 has very good tracking auto focus and a more useable out of the box preset, but using S-Log3 images should match up well?

    Nice video. I just pulled the trigger on FX9 for interiors work and am waiting for it to ship. Question about the dual native ISO...wouldn't it be better to, at 4000, decrease the gain a few notches VS doing it with the ND, or does pegging it at 4000 and using ND preserve the most dynamic range?

    • @MrClintMontgomery
      @MrClintMontgomery Před rokem

      Curious as to your experience now that you likely own the camera. I am contemplating buying an fx9 since clients are starting to request it more. Regarding your question, it’s my understanding that by setting it to 4000 you are basically using the higher base iso which will have the same noise and dynamic range as the lower base iso. So unless you can just use the lower base iso in order to not use the ND filter, stick with 4000. What has been your experience with this since owning the camera?

    Like the Fx9, but the Fs7 is still the most requested camera from my clients (something that doesn't look to change for a while), so no need to update to it for me yet.

    Hi Brian, recent subscriber thanks for the FX9 content. One thing i'm struggling with is viewing my footage prior to importing into Premiere .I'm currently staring at 300GB worth of files so rather than importing directly then create proxies i'd like to scrub through my footage first to decide what files i import. I'd be interested in your work flow to get around this. Do you use any media player that can play MXX files, or do you just import all your files directly into your video editing software? Probably sounds like a rookie question but it would really help me out to get an efficient workflow sorted out as quickly as possible to shooti with my new FX9 which iam vry pleased with. Thanks in advance.

      Hi David, on you on Mac or PC? On mac with latest OS you can spacebar MXF files to play them in the browser and scrub through them. Otherwise VLC player will play and up MXF files and Kyno is also really great software for browsing, organizing, and transcoding footage lesspain.software/kyno/

    I WOULD LIKE TO SEE YOU MAKING A HONEST VIDEO ON FX9 DRAWBACKS, WEAKNESS, WHERE IT LACKS. REASONS NOT TO BUY FX9. + THINGS TO ADD UP TO FX9 TO MAKE IT A COMPLETE "FILMMAKING" CAMERA, FOR EX... BEST RIG, MAT BOX, ND/PL, EXT REC, BEST V-MOUNT, MICS, EXT MONITOR, ETC.

    For my first cinema camera would you recommend the FS7 mark 1 or the C200? I don't want to spend $5000 for an 8bit camera (C200) but im not sure. What do you think?

    All the review on CZcams sound similar, what reviewers forget to test is the camera reliable, I have a FS7 and over time using it, the dc jack middle core pop out, the video jack get damage, and after a couple years in a pelican case cause the camera not able to power up, compare to my Nikon d810, the DSLR is way more reliable

  • @HelpUsSaveLives
    @HelpUsSaveLives Před 24 dny

    Sony is misleading people by calling the FX9 a "full frame" and it is not. It is NOT ''full frame". An actual "full frame" sensor or image is 36mm wide and 24mm high, same as the original 35mm film image. THIS camera is 35.7 wide (nearly the same width) BUT only 18.8 mm high a full 5.2mm almost 28%) LESS image than the true height of a full-frame image. What a lie to call it "FULL FRAME" when it is not. The original 36mm x 24mm is a different ratio and this is wider, but not as tall, to more conform to the traditional 1.5 ratio, close to the original 4:3 image size, similar to the original Hollywood Academy aspect ratio. This is a 1.88:1 ratio, not 1.37 or 1.67 (TV or Super 16) or even 1:85 Super 35, it is a different ratio but NOT full frame as we know it today. A marketing ploy but when you want to use the traditional 4:3 ratio you cannot without losing a fourth of the image area you HAVE with a true 24mm x36mm full frame. Shame on them for calling this Full Frame when it is not. Close, but not full frame.
