  • In this episode we take a look at Queen Innuendo. The last of the Epic Queen Anthems harking back to Bohemian Rhapsody and early Prog Rock. We also compare this epic masterpiece to the Martin Miller Session Band tribute which is one of the only covers I've ever heard that does this song justice.

As someone else from another planet, I agree wholeheartedly, so was Freddie!

Great analysis. Innuendo is a masterpiece. You guys should do, The Fairy Fellers Master-Stroke and The Millionaire Waltz from Queen as well. Freddie's voice did actually lose some of its power. He had to use far more mixed voice on the Innuendo album then he did before, but he obviously made it work and still sounds as good a ever. It is a good cover of Innuendo. Queensryche also did a cover of Innuendo and people did like it much.

That transition back to the main theme at 14:59 is just perfection

Such a super interesting breakdown -thanks dog & cat ;)
I’m a big fan of progrock, LOVE Queen, adore their musical creations, their way of thinking, Freddie’s voice…everything.
Hadn’t heard this track and am blown away by it.
The story they tell, the ‘Be free’-message (reminding me of that Home Free song ‘Walking this Land’), and again, Freddie’s incredible voice and musicianship…
That beautiful and rhythmically loose middle part in Flamenco style…(I’m gonna check out that Wiki-link to Steve Howe’s involvement there :) -it’s all such a powerful piece of storytelling.
You’ve mentioned Dirty Loops, and right from the start, listening to Innuendo, I had to think of them.
For me, storytelling always comes to mind when listening to them. Their music ALWAYS is so evocative and imaginative, and Jonah’s voice always so descriptive and expressive…
I’ve mentioned vocalist Chris Liepe before. Amongst many other singers’ vocals, he’s also ‘dissected’ some Freddie Mercury vocal tracks, I believe.
Enjoying your passion, appreciation and educational breakdowns enormously 👍
    Cheers from Downunder ☺️

This song has a demo from 1989... very late in the Miracle sessions. They were trying to go back to their roots, but the song didn't show up until this album. Freddie's voice sounds very different and healthier on the original, but I think part of the charm of the Innuendo album is Fred's voice. It was an ailing voice... it was a thing. Not so much full power, but his highs were still insane!
Credit to Steve Howe for a sick performance.
Credit to Queen for pulling off a masterpiece in their final hour.

Fun fact, the common video is actually censored. The original was similar but different in sections and even used footage from the 1991 Gulf War.

@@theindustry4747 be safe in the wind. We have strong winds coming tonight that will last until late Thursday. Expecting up to or over 2 feet by the time it's done late Thursday. We had pouring rain last week which is really unusual. Now the typical snowstorm. I went shopping yesterday, so no need to go anywhere. Lucky Rob and Adam, they get to miss it!

as far as i know steve howe from yes played just the flamenco guitar part in the original because he happened to be in the same studio when queen recorded this so they‘ve invited him, the whole part with the electric guitar has been played by brian may.

You obviously enjoy this type of music. Try Tony Carey. You want total progressive and just plain fun. He has a sprawling career so I think you should stay with his "progressive stuff" which is Planet P. Anything that he did was and "is" amazing. Try Planet P Pink World. It's a double album and is right down your alley. Start there then you can go to his self-title Planet P album which had the hit "why me". Even though, Why Me is good, it's not the best of that album. Take a listen, I'm positive you'll love it. Oh, by the way, it's very political in nature.
