I agree with the topic of soft power. In the West - there is a growing perception that India is Hindutva fascist state. This could lead to western politician desiring to destabilize India by increasing internal factionalism, propping up adversaries like Pakistan, imposing sanctions or delegitimizing your rule in the international arena (Modi is routinely likened to Hitler). Yes, we need to have more such meaningful debates. There are many glaring examples on how not having soft power in Global media and NGOs by Bharat is putting us in great disadvantage.
    1. There is religious prosecution of Hindus and other minorities on a regular basis in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh where as we all know how the minorities are pampered and appeased in Bharat. But, when it comes to international opinion, there is continuous creation of fake narratives that Muslims and other minorities are under persecution in Bharat and no news coverage about continued persecution of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh. I am not against minorities but these fake and false narratives hurts us a lot.
    2. Take the case of indices like Democracy index, press freedom index, hunger index, religious freedom index etc all these are made without any transparency and are very unfavorable to Bharat. By having our own indices with transparent parameters and models, we can counter these propogandists.
Having a global media presence helps us in countering these false and motivated agenda driven narratives of western and Islamist media like Aljazeera .

I think India’s soft power lies in repeatedly emphasizing not just how honest and humane we are as a people despite 800 years of colonization, exploitation and dehumanization by external forces, but what our core belief is about human nature - the West looks at human nature as a barometer of how well the external environment is shaped, while we have always emphasized our innate human nature as infinite awareness and consciousness and essentially as divine. It’s this dichotomy where at a time when the West’s narratives are not seen as truthful that India could step in. That’s what Al Jazeera did in the wake of the US invasion of Iraq under a dishonest premise. For example, the telugu movie HanuMan had so many American fans because it was an honest story about infinite inner potential that can be manifested when there is real need - a bit like the David versus Goliath myth rooted in Western psyche. But unlike the actual Western mode of operating in the real world, especially the American trait, of going for an overkill all the time, as a culture India is more patient and we use our force externally in a deliberate, conscious and sustainable fashion. So a little akin to martial arts movies - restraint is observed solely to maximize the end goal of victory over a situation/problem/circumstance. Indian governments of the past have given restraint a bad name as they used it as a substitute for weakness. That era is past us. Now we are restrained by our free choice but not tied down by anything. This supreme balance of restraint and freedom rooted in honesty and our Indian ethos of human nature as conscious, aware and intelligent, should be the central tropes of our narrative soft power. The narrative climax should be about victory over the problem or situation. Because we have, are and always will be the world’s best mind warriors. Jai Shri Ram!

Very interesting conversation. I completely agree with Palki but the problem is that first and foremost all Indians are not unified when it comes to presenting India in the right context. Our soft power, sometimes is hell bent on projecting what's wrong here or what their perception of what's not right here. Take Bollywood for instance... till even recently we used to get thinly veiled insults to our own culture, spreading false propaganda, etc and we have some media outlets that try to nullify our own achievements because they may not be in favour of current government's leaders, etc. Once this is sorted out, that in itself will solve half the problems and we can use that to paint an optimistic narrative of India. Yes, but it should not be false extrapolation also as Palki says but on the whole if Indians don't have a sense of pride and feel good factor about themselves, how can this soft power be exported?
The reason America managed to do this possibly stems from the fact of how that nation was built in the first place. It is a relatively new country and an epitome of idealism. Their economic growth and liberal values fuelled their soft power growth (exporting their movies, music, entertainment, etc) along with hard power. No other country (neither in the West or East) can be compared to the US even to this day. So, they have that advantage of pop culture and that American dream. Yes, not everything they have done is great and in fact, plenty of those were even downright wrong and horrendous, especially in the last 75-80 years (from being the only nation to drop an atom bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki to Vietnam war and funding terrorist organisations) but very few in the western or eastern civilisation see them as a rogue nation. Think about it.

While your thoughts are logical, I suggest you also consider the following, and also in the context…
The Americans went through an arduous process of making the decision to bomb Hiroshima. The Japanese in their Bushido code were harshly brutal and inhuman in their ways of waging war in the Southeast Asian countries. They would not stop fighting. Our leaders were having nightmares of the Japanese entering India. The US and the Allies fought them off in the harsh Southeast Asian jungles.
While you may be right about the American failures in Vietnam and such, the US gets all this respect because the overall US foreign policies have ushered an unprecedented spell of global peace and in turn, astonishing Human growth and Development.

In my opion india needs to change many factors to become Global player.
    1. It needs to stop being hindu 🕉 Extremist, specially they should treat muslims with dignity.
    2. They need to spend more for supporting weak countries to build strong future ally.
    3. Diversify your media, all most all indian medi run extremist except Palki one, although she hates Pakistan too much.
    4. Devoloping Bollywood and include people from different countries not only indians.
As a somali, when i was young i used to watch indian movies but stopped since they fell behind, became more recist sorry to that
    .
This is my person opion and advice to Indian Government.

Karan johar, liberal lobby & some over aged male actors who don't want to retire despite getting the clue, Don't allow fresh ideas into Bollywood so that they can remain relevant, have destroyed bollywood & our soft power & they are so much dumb, hypocrites, egomaniacs that they would bash nationalism movies or cultural movies by giving them bad ratings e.g Anupama Chopra ( who said crap about rrr even) . Don't even get me started with the kind of movies Bollywood is making these days - Taj, heeramandi etc etc. am not saying thse are bad movies but how does it help to build the narrative about our culture.

I am a regular viewer of your channel and I strongly feel if the content is rich one need not to use misleading tactics to pull the audience. I also believe in your content thats the reason I watch it regularly, however the mismatch in the thumbnail and the actual content, might hamper your image if done on regular basis. Its like, "showroom ka maal alag aur godown ka maal alag". I believe there was no need to have SRK in your thumbnail if he is not even part of the conversation in your video, this is setting up wrong expectations to the viewers and might work in short run however it will hamper your image and will not go well with the viewers in long run. I admire your work and the quality of your content. As a well wishers i felt it unappropriate so pointed out. 😊

As an American, the biggest thing we hear about India is how men there think it's okay to rape women and children. Not necessarily legally okay, but morally okay. Not for all, but for most men in India. The stats are there, and I don't like it at all, but that's what America, with our skewed values and morals, is shown. And we obviously don't like it. Maybe it's false data, but no media anywhere seems to care to correct our view. So we feel there must be some truth to it. Not that there isn't rape here, it's everywhere. So is misinformation. It's the way we seem to view it as a country, that differs most.

Most of the people here are impressed as they lacked the knowledge that is being shared here, while she is good and would even say intelligent I don’t know what kind of perception she holds for instance movies - fun loving, singing, dancing society - seriously? I think there are people out there who actually know more about Indian than Indians themselves and this is what needs to be addressed first, all the big talks can be executed at a government level and definitely without the media especially because may those be outlets or individuals at the end of the day they care only about money or power or both!

Many factors which affects a country’s press freedom ranking .
They are hard power ( like military , govt sanctions etc )
And soft power ( like attracting huge FDI , global demand for made in India products etc etc )
Even luck, geography , west vs east , element like racism too , white vs coloured .
India does not have hard power , even soft power index is low as compared to many western countries and Asian like China , Taiwan , Vietnam etc
