    hes 500 ft away nows hes 300ft. Yet on the radar hes still outside the first ring throughout the whole thing lol.

    A captain's rule-When the lightning starts, it's automatically the mate's time to steer the vessel.

      Why? That's interesting.... I'm associated with the military and I find navy customs kinda kool. Don't walk into a bar with your hat on in uniform. Don't try to go in that particular chow hall unless you're a particular rank.

      @@0210ronin If I had to guess, it's so that the captain can focus on everything happening on the vessel and giving orders rather than putting all their attention into piloting.

      It happens.Offshore with no ground resistance thunderstorms can produce that kind of wind in minutes in a very strong storm. I encounter it several times a season off he NC coast. Most storms usually produce 45-55mph but I have clocked up to 73mph myself but they are rare storms and are usually just short gusts.
