Good Morning plant Fam and Friends. In today’s video I go over general care for treating houseplants with blight. This is a plant collectors worst nightmare!! It started with 3 plants and then quickly spread to 15!!
I seriously lost sleep 😴 over this, I was terrified. But then an awesome Planty friend on insta reached out to me. There is a cure it’ll just take time and a lot of TLC and cautious behavior. I hope this little mini series’s helps you. As always have a great Plant Fam and Friends.

I just ran to my plant room to turn on the fan 😬I know this had to be so stressful, it looks like you got it under control. It’s better to lose a few plants instead of your whole collection... still sucks loosing any plants. Thanks for all the info! Now I know what to look out for. 🌿😘
Yep, I believe I brought it home from home depot and that's how it spread!! 😖😭 I hate that I'm a leaf petter lol.
This is exactly how I feel. Literally losing sleep. Headache. Just trying not to cry.

My philodendron birkin from home depot got this.
I bought the copper fungicide concentrate instead of the spray. It's the same price but I can make 32 bottles of spray if i use distilled water. Same brand, Bonide.
Oh that's so good to know I think I bought like 4 or 5 actual bottles before I was able to get rid of it in all my plants. I lost a few but my more sentimental plants survived.

I seemed to have upset the Plant Gods because I have had an infestation of mealy bugs ☹ Those things have gone supersayan on my plants. While closely examining my plant babies I find some also have spider mites and blight 😭 WTF! What was, only a few short weeks ago a place of beauty and zen has become battle zone. The neem oil, sprayer, cotton tips, isopropol alcohol and gloves are my constant companions in this battle.

Yep hahaha, It really sucks. I believe I brought it home from Home Depot when I went plant shopping with my brother.
I've purchased 2 different Calathea that both had a type of bacterial infection- one had blight, one had what looked like rust water splashes- both spread like a wildfire and I ended up just throwing the plant out. I don't think I'll purchase another Calathea unless I literally grow it from a seed myself.

Great video Brad 🙌🏻 Very informative ! I got my Copper Spray yesterday and have been treating for whatever I’m dealing with all day so I’m hopeful it takes care of the issues ! Literally a plant parents WORSE nightmare, I agree. Whatever I have has spread like wildfire as well and it’s just been so sad. I have around 10 babies sick right now from it and we’ve lost a lot of leaves. Wishing you the best with all your plants and hoping your issues are done and over with 🌱 🙅🏼♀️💚

I have this on my Mcolley Finale & Prince Orange Philodendron. I just repotted ( w/out gloves) at same time as my Micans 🥺

Spiderplants are so hardy, chop off all the leaves it will grow back! Please say you didn’t throw it out 🤞🏼
Well I kept watching and you did 🥺 I have this one if you don’t come across another one I can send you a piece of mine 🥰 hopefully you kick this in the but in time! So sorry for this, now I’m off to turn my fan back on. We put up lights for the first tim on the house & I unplugged my fan 😳
Yeah I did not think to save the spider plant!! I was so upset. At one point I wanted to throw all the houseplants out and start over.

I am trying to tackle this as best I can I believe I caught it I time. So far no more plants have been infected and I would hate to ship it out and all you plants in your home get infected!! I would be so devastated!!!
Hi Brad, thanks for the video. I had this a few months ago and treated it successfully. I cut one philo down so much that no leaves/stems were left and now it's thriving. I love remembering that plants want to live in these situations. Good luck.- and I did the same as you with the spray and cutting affected leaves/stems.

That is awful! None of my plants have blight thankfully but I have been loosing a number of plants recently. So I definitely feel some of your pain. My plants are struggling with the the lack of sun light from the changing season. I bought a bunch of grow lights a few months back and it’s not helping as much as I think it should. I also can’t seem to find a watered schedule that works some of my plants are staying wet for to long while others are bone dry within a day or two of watered. I’ve lost four plants three that were a bit pricey and several that are on the brink of death. I feel your frustration and stress.
I know With this dry air my plant watering schedule is out of wack!! I can’t keep it together lol. Awe and that’s terrible that you are loosing some plants!! 😱😱 I really dislike winter. Only like 4 months till spring!!

Shhhhhhoot. I bought a Chinese evergreen from a local greenhouse with spots on the leaves. They told me it was cold damage but it seems to be spreading. I trusted them!
Blight is hard to diagnose because it affects each plant differently, but if you can treat with copper fungicide as just a precaution and quarantine any plants you think have it. You will also have to bottom water till symptoms subside. Top watering can spread the spores or the bacteria.

I would yeet that spider plant too. You may have to invest in an oscillating fan for your spare bedroom. The tower-style ones have a smaller footprint than the traditional ones.
Yep, I do have a ceiling fan going now in the spare bedroom so far so good nothing seems to be progressing any further. But my fingers are still crossed 🤞🤞

Thank you so much. This was very helpful! Like almost all my outdoor plants have it and I think a couple indoor ones. I’ve been removing the dead leaves from the indoor plants, so hopefully it’s gone. Definitely will look into the spray you’re using!
As of today I have not seen or had anymore signs of blight at all by using the copper fungicide.
What The Flock Farm Oh my gosh, that’s amazing! I’m so glad you got it under control. I’m planning to go get the spray today! Not sure if my outdoor plants will survive, but I’m not as concerned about them. I’m planning to treat my Money Trees and Avocado Trees because I think there is a possibility they could have it. I threw my Polka Dot Plant away. 🤷🏼♀️ Rather lose one than all! Thank you!!

What a nightmare. I've never heard of blight before now. Hope you can get rid of it! Would you suggest a small fan for air circulation? My windows are closed in the winter so my plants are not experiencing any wind.
I think as long as your plants are not over crowded you should be fine and if you are a leaf petter like me wash your heads very well before you touch the next plant.

I know it's been a crazy week. Going through each plant looking for signs pulling them spraying. But I got this I think I have it pretty much under control my fingers are still crossed 🤞🤞

Omg that's terrible!! Blight is the worst!!! 😭 But is treatable and you can get rid of it.
Every plant I own has some type of spot or dot or brown or white or something...

I used copper fungicide.
Does the soil have to be changed as well or just cut off bad leaves and then spray the rest of the plant? And how often do you spray it?
Sorry I’m panicking. I’m pretty positive my philodendron selloum has it..
So cut all the badly infected leaves off, it doesn't hurt to change the soil but I did not. I spray every 7 to 10 days. Until signs have slowed or the progression has stopped.
I would wait, To change the soil until you know the plant is healthy again.
Hi so I have a Gloriosum that has similar spots to your McDowell. The only problem is if I cut off all the leaves there would be no leaves left. What should I do in this case?
I would spray with Cooper fungicide spray. Then let it sit until the spray dries off. Do not touch the leaves at all then. If the blight worsens on the leaves you'll have to cut them. I works then spray every 2 to 3 weeks then. Remember not to touch any of your other plants cause blight can spread.
Holy. Crap I think I think my Adansoni might have blight. I have those type of black specks on it and even new leaves have either. I put it outside and will spray it to see what happens. I hope we can get these plant pest problems under control. Stay blessed Brad☺👍.

You just picked up the copper fungicide bottle with your blighty gloves. Now that is contaminated.

Do you also need to change the soil? I have the same problem :(. Tried treating it with betadine, but didn't change the spil.
You can replace all the soil of you wanted too. I know people who have replaced all the soil.

It could be hard water or root rot. It's really hard to say because some plant problems look the same.

Yes hoyas can get blight, pretty much any plant can get a fungal or bacterial blight.

You can buy Bonide copper fungicide at your Lowes. If you think it is blight you will cut off all badly infected leaves and then spray the foliage. You will need to quarantine and do your plants touch.
