    Max was a personal friend of mine. He was the best keyboard player I've ever seen. He used to come to my house and play for my husband and I. He was a great guy.

      @sandyzalecki1145 That is awesome, and thank you for sharing this! I hope this video honored him justly. He seemed like a great guy, and I can tell you firsthand that learning to play his solo was a sizable challenge, and took several hours with my best effort to imitate it... The fact that Max "just created it within minutes" is a true sign of a master at the controls. Not to mention he created his own instrument!! Wow. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your comment. I have pinned it to the top.

      @@MyKeysToMusic The man was a definite genius, but such a humble man. He used to beat himself up because he couldn't read music very well. I used to say that there was no sheet music that could keep up with him. I used to watch him while he played and there were times when I couldn't even see his hands move they were going so fast. My husband was a guitarist and the decent singer. Max would bring his keyboard to our house and the two of them would play for his wife and I. I'm the only one still living. I really miss those private concerts he used to give us.

      @@sandyzalecki1145 I can picture what that must have been like. There is nothing quite like watching someone who has mastered their craft. I was lucky enough to work side by side with Patti Page the late great singer from the 50s (computer training, not having anything to do with music). She was critical of herself with the fact that she couldn't read music. Yet, it didn't matter a bit as her talents and gifts flourished regardless. Did you know he got kicked out of Piano class at the University of New Mexico for breaking into the practice room after hours and playing rock and roll? He mentioned being able to “bend notes” with the Musitron-you can really hear it. He also mentioned being able to duplicate a bassoon-which really creates something new because in Runaway it sounds much like a flute, but the note transitions slide more than a flute can achieve with its fixed discrete valves

      @marksummerford8349 Hey Mark! You are so correct. In fact, at one point in the video, you see him bend the notes using a small wheel that he turns with one hand. Hmm, imagine having the chance to go back in time and spend time with him to pick his brain about the instrument - I have a feeling we'd learn a lot, and I bet we'd be very much entertained as well. My first memory of this song was way back in when I was a kid and my older cousins asked me to join them for a band rehearsal just for fun. They were in a cover band. @Kurt Martin Hi Kurt! Thanks for your comment here. Wow, you are a Nord super fan like me eh?! So, I've had a small change in direction with some of the Discovery videos going forward. Instead of explaining every setting, I've been providing the downloadable programs or bundles either via my Patreon account (at the Discovery Membership level) or to students of the Nord Stage 3 course. This saves me a little time on making the video and provides better value for the people that want an easy way to "just get the sound". And, not everyone wants to sit through the explanation part either.
      Now, with that said, I'm planning on continuing the Discovery series but not always providing the breakdown at the end. I'm also considering adding a new series where I go over "concepts of synthesis" whereby you can learn useful synth concepts without having to own a Stage 3. I would demo these concepts on various synths here where you can apply the theories to your own synths and "learn how to fish." I'm all in on Nord for the moment of course but do plan on expanding to other synths on the channel and reach a slightly broader audience. I can also use keyboards that are a touch more affordable and perhaps better suited to those just beginning their journey.
      But for the Nord pros, I'll be continuing 100% at www.MyKeysToMusic for the best possible Nord content now and going forward. The bottom line is that my website will be laser-focused on Nord products and the channel here will start to branch out ever so slightly to include more general synthesis content. Heck, I haven't even cracked open the Nord Wave 2 or the Lead A1 much on the channel yet so there is a backlog on Nord even. Much thanks for your support. Links for the items mentioned are in the description. 🙏🏽

    OK, well you're playing the high arpeggiated Piano part, that's easy.
    How are you getting the sound for the Musitron? I can also see you're doing the tune in Bb minor but when Del Shannon calls the chords he's calling A minor. I've always done it in A minor because it's always the key that the Guitarist calls.

    • @LadyBGoode-gr8wm
      @LadyBGoode-gr8wm Před 4 lety +2

      He says it in the video. Its a down load in the Nord Stage 3 course. I had to get clarification on that, too in my above comment. You are right, while in a jam, the jam master /lead guitar calls the key, unless there is a singer, then the singer calls it. Marc is playing it how it is in the recording, so I dont understand where you are coming from.

    • @horowizard
      @horowizard Před 4 lety +2

      @@LadyBGoode-gr8wm The recording was probably done in A minor and sped up. I'm surprised Marc didn't pitch it down back to the key it was played in.

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi guys. Well you are both right here. So, here's the story with the tuning.
      I agree with Horowizard that the original key was very likely A minor and that is was also recorded and sped up (by a lot). So, if you attempt to play this in A minor on your Nord and then tune it all the way, you're only half-way to B flat. The way I tuned it for the video was to start in B flat minor (already higher than A minor) and tune up even more to approx. 445 which gets it close to the original.
      In hindsight, what I probably should have done is transpose it up +1, then tune it to 445, and then perform it in A minor. This would have maintained the integrity of the original chords while also maintaining the integrity of the actual recording as we hear today. But I choose to go the Bb minor route and do things the hard way haha! Then again, I may not be alone in my thinking here as we see there is sheet music written for the song presented as Bb minor as well!! (www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/mtd.asp?ppn=MN0057818&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwOGt4_3a6wIVlxatBh3vjAfmEAQYASABEgKOePD_BwE) So, this is a mixed back of tricks. In the end, I think the entire song is probably easier to play in A minor and doing so maintains the intent of the original composition as called out by the musicians playing it back in the day. This ended up being an interesting topic here - so thanks for your points on it. 🤔

      Hello Amos. Sounds with other keyboards are not directly interchangeable with your Nord. You could however potentially record samples from other keyboards and load them in that way. It's a fairly elaborate process, but technically it can be done. Keep in mind that a sample is going to be a straight recording so you may not get the same control over those sounds as you did on the original keyboard you recorded them from. I suspect he's got some sort of a hold going on to make the low note because it's persistent. The A he is clearly playing but then it seems like it's "gliding up" into the A as well so this is a bit of a mystery how this is created. Another great example of the Emerson genius at work...

      @LFOVCF (Great channel name and I see you have what looks like the Behringer MS101). I owned an original Roland SH101 way back in 1986 or so. I used it for the wind noise for original prog rock music. So, regarding "Runaway" - ya, it took me a while to rehearse this before getting it down under the fingers.

      @@MyKeysToMusic Believe it or not, this profile pic is an original, but I don't own one.
      Had a play on the Behringer, very nice.

      @@LFOVCF Good to know! Well, the SH-101 is one of a kind for sure. Totally regret selling mine way back in 1991 or so. Selling the Roland D-50 is another regret. In any case, thanks for the stopping by.

    Does anyone know what happened to the Musitron after Max died?

      @stevehofer3482
      Hey Steve, I did a little research but came up empty handed. Maybe it stayed with the family - but it would be quite a catch for a collector (or another keyboard player perhaps). You'd probably need someone on the level of a Robert Moog, I think, to both appreciate and fix it/maintain it as well.

    Close...but not there.... i think think max was bending pitch with a knob while playing the solo. good vid nonetheless.

      Hello @JM I tend to agree with you. Even in this video where I show Max playing with the other band, he has one hand on the pitch bend so it's likely that he did the same for the Runaway solo.

      @My Keys To Music I went on a deep dive last week looking for solid replication of Max's sound and yours was closest I found. It must be hella difficult to nail down.

    @My Keys To Music hi someone i saw in internet i read had electro like the wood panels screws be lose and broken and also one of them got the wood panels fall off. What should i do if that happend to me and its that very common? For nord keyboard. Now im worried

    • @MyKeysToMusic
      @MyKeysToMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't think the wood panels falling off is a common thing at all. That's never happened to me (not even close) and I have used my Electro 5 on hundreds of gigs. If such a thing were to happen, if feels like the keyboard was under some kind of strain on the stand or in the case or something. Under normal use, the wood panels should not fall off or become loose at all in my experience. I've never had a single person mention anything like this. So, I think you're safe with this one! Thanks 👍🏼

      My Keys To Music also i found my left side ln the wood and the c key the gap its 4mm wide and my left side its 2mm gap should i care or should i just play it as it is ? It works perfect no issues i just notice that today

    • @MyKeysToMusic

      @@recordlabeldao7820 Hmm, sounds like a slight imperfection there and probably within expected and acceptable limits. For example, on my Electro 6D 61, there is about 2 mm gap on either end but on my Stage3 Compact, there is about a 2mm gap on the left and about a 4 mm gap on the right. I never gave it a thought until just now. Your attention to detail is very good. I don't think I would dwell on this or give it much attention beyond it being a curious subtlety and the fact that in large part, these keyboards are handmade so perhaps that has something to do with it? I learn something new every day with observations like this so thank you for sharing!
