  • The vowel sounds in the words red and black are often difficult to differentiate in English. Is it bad or bed? tan or ten?
    Practice listening to minimal pairs that contain these two vowel sounds. Can you hear the difference?

    Do you have any tips on learning sounds transcriptions?
    Thank you for your videos.

    • @ExtraEnglishPractice
      @ExtraEnglishPractice  Před 5 lety

      If you want to learn to read transcriptions, I recommend learning the symbols you are most likely to use. For example, look at the symbols in your favourite dictionary.
      Many dictionaries offer audio now, so it may not be as important as in the past.

    Ladies thank you for this, very helpful video. However, I was a bit confused on the word pair "left and laughed". It seemed that you switched the sides, rather than say your side of the word.

    Oh it's so hard to differentiate. Girl on the right says PAN and RAD quite different. In word PAN sound A sounds like in RED, but in PAN she opens her mouth wider and it sounds more like A.

    • @ExtraEnglishPractice
      @ExtraEnglishPractice  Před 4 lety +1

      Sounds can also be affected by the sounds that come before or after them. So the As in PAN and PAD may could slightly different.
