No offence your grandparents were not very smart. Yes they complained a lot, but they were not very wise when it came to dealing with the influx of migrants. All they had to do is, not sell their homes. It was as simple as that. If all the whites that once lived in East London and various other towns and cities, stayed put. Refuse to sell their homes or rent out their properties to Johnny Foreigners. Guess what, today these places would still be white majority areas. Theres a saying, an Englishmans home is his castle. It's just a pity, many of the generations that lived in the 1050's and onwards forgot all about that principle

So did every other successful empire nation on the planet -- it was the economic norm at the time. Wrong now, but in context for the time completely normal. The British however were comparatively 'kinder' to their subjects, than other empires across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. As for India, there was no "India" to "rip off" -- we didn't arrive one day and decide to conquer it all. The entire Indian subcontinent was a mix of colonies but also other Kingdoms who were under our influence and economically tied to us. It was beneficial to both the British and Indian cultures, and I have spoken with several Indian intellects/lecturers who have come to the same agreement, with hindsight.

This is good, some honest dialogue. I was born in this country, my mother gave most, or should I say all of her working life to the NHS working her way the top at a teaching hospital south of the river in what I still consider to be one of the greatest metropolises in world despite painfully decadent social standards.
Funnily enough, I some what empathise wither the concerns that have now come to pass. But the failure here is the government’s lack of planning creating environment of cultural pluralism.
The gentleman talking about the people of this lovely landscape repelling invasions in prior centuries, fails to mention the mass invasion the crown inflicted on other countries letting their military machine at the time plunder and pillage the lands with which the indigenous natives thrived.
Let us not forget our industries over here thrived from the resources human and earthly elements from pillaged, yes, I said pillaged land and ravaged people. Believe or not, I do love this country just as much as my Anglo-Saxon brethren and sisteren, but they really need to research the good and the bad of their ancestors deeds and legacies to fully comprehend the socio-economic and political terrain that sculptures our society today and they will see and come close to understanding that we are all being played by a group of elite decision makers who have no one but their immediate self serving interests at heart. That is my take amongst quite a few unmentioned others that will be betters suited for another conversation I might or might not care to get into. Just look at what has happened since the last three general elections, and the self-centred players involved.

Lastly this was filmed in the 70s, that's 45 years ago, why on Earth are you linking it to a modern day context!? Whilst he was busy doing that I took the opportunity to have a wander around the neighbourhood. I couldn't believe I was in England. I looked down at the row of terraced houses/shops, typically British in design, but couldn't quite get my head around the strange Asian sub-continental music blaring away and the stench from the butchers. I may as well have been in Islamabad! They were working away with their aprons on that probably hadn't seen a washing machine for weeks and which surely would have been closed down if anyone dared inspect the place. All I can say is I pity the English folk who are slowly but surely losing their identity/values and seeing their country turning into one big Asian/Middle eastern shithole!

@@shouvahjeetchakravarti6843 Thats totally wrong. The western colonialism started on the base of a high technology and the western knowledge based for example on ancient greek sciences. The eastern roman empire existed until the mid of the 15th century. And in the whole middle age we had a connection between Byzanz and western Europa as you can see in Sylvain Gouguenheims study about the subject. Three last points: 1. the ancient eastern sciences were made primarily from caucasian and indoeuropean people. 2. Your eastern kind stood on the same scientific level for hundreds of years. There was no progress at all for a very long time. 3. what you knowing today on eastern cultures is the result of the work of western scientists, especially from the late 18th until the 20th century.
All what you can do is to use a propaganda lie. And besides that if your eastern cultures have such a great wisdom, knowledge, science and so forth why your people came and coming to millions to Europe and northern America???
The truth is your countries are since the medieval time complete shit-holes and there is no beauty besides the nature and ancient architecture. And its also a truth that a few thousand british soldiers could conquered the biggest parts of India and the eastern world. Without us you would living today not with modern technologies and medicine but still in the middle age.
And last but not least the colonialism was not supported by the simple british people and the mass immigration of your kind into Europe and Britain isn't democratic and rightful at all. Its simply a crime against our people, initiated by the plutocratic elite.
And no, Im not british, Im german. But we have in my homeland the same problems since decades as our english bloodbrothers with celtic, germanic and roman roots.
Again: you would be nothing without us today. You are not grateful for our gifts and you have no awareness for democracy and the right itself. The western colonialism was a big mistake but at the same time it was the tool and the ticket for your people to become modern and to share the modern civilisation.

I understand that this sudden rise in immigration is scary for these older people. Their communities were changing rapidly and they could no longer recognise their hometowns. In the early 1970s, many were expelled from Uganda and some 200,000 admitted to the UK, seeing a sharp rise in immigration. These people seem to feel like aliens in their own towns and basically make the claim "they don't intigrate, their businesses do nothing for our economy." But they don't want these people to integrate. That's hypocrisy. As for sending money home, it boosts these economies - they come here because our economy is stronger. By strengthening their economies, they wouldn't need to come here in the first place. Perhaps we could even trade with them (which we do). Eventually they have become more integrated, enriched our culture with their foods, their herbs and spices, their music, their fashions. In turn, we've helped them come here, thrive here and send money home so they too can thrive. Now you shouldn't feel alien in your own community. Besides, us "whites" outnumber the "coloureds" by about 86%.

These people are not the only one. my grandparents became white minority from the sheer force of numbers of Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants arriving in a quantity beyond any possible population growth. They were the lucky ones. I moved house and was forced to live and work side by side with horrible indian and pacific islander ghettos that was as just as stressful as being forced to live with drug addicts. all they ever do is argue, and are typically unproductive

Oh how we would just love to have the numbers of immigrants then, instead of NOW. Politicians or social engineers as they indeed are, should be in a secure environment, with no visits.

According to the Office for National Statistics foreign nationals make up 9% of the general population, but just over 12% of the prison population in England and Wales.
Today, that equates to just over 11,000 foreign nationals in our chronically overcrowded prison system, and each prisoner costs the Great British taxpayer approximately £34,000 per annum to keep in jail.

No refugees at that era. They was invited by the Queen. Just like how Germany invited Turks for work.
