I'm currently 66 rc, and I do it a bit different, mostly the same though.
I do bring a chisel and the 3 pouches I can use, those store 18 essence in total.
I allso take the 10 uncharged cells. leaving 22 empty inventory slots.
I first mine 160ish fragments. Then turn 40 of those into essence (full inventory+Full pouches)
and do my first run, I make it back just in time to get into the yellow portal, sometimes I do need to drop the runes I just made though, since I don't have time to deposit them.
Basically I always do full runs with 40 essence.
I usually craft 4 times in a game and do 3 yellow portals (all of the available ones) and usually this is when the game ends.
A bit like this:

Yellow portal
Crafted
Guardian at 100%
I do have to add that I have 99 mining+Dragon pickaxe, so mining probably is a bit faster for me than for most people playing the mini game. But this method works pretty well for me.

Just a suggestion for Guardians too that most people probably already realize but we all have those brain fart moments.
If you're lower runecraft focus on the Catalytic portals over Elemental ones since you may still only have access to 2 or 3 of them. If you get unlucky there may be some games where you barely get any even if you're focusing and if you get lucky you'll get ahead on your Catalytic energy and since you have access to all the Elemental portals so early you can catch it up much easier than your Catalytic energy
