Hey, developer here! Thanks for checking out my game :)
I will say I agree with a lot of your thoughts. And I really wanted to make the game much more complex and deep. But because I created this on my own in my spare time after my full time job, it would just take too much time.
I really do read and listen to every piece of feedback wherever the source, and will keep improving the game based upon it.
I think doubling down on the vs robot treme would be better have towers have abilities or perk that work very well against robots like turning a robot to you side to damage other robots until they lose all thier health or turn back to a normal enemy or a emp to stop the robots but they auto repair and move again maybe a at a slower speed for a time. Or the player that are humans can modify the track to have different effects or alternative paths the enemy now have to take and they damage what is blocking the original path each time they pass to go the alternative path. Uniqueness is what truly make tower defense games shine. I wish you good luck and inspiration in your game making endeavor.
Good luck to you! I will be looking for your game on Steam later today.
Congrats dude, it's tough making something and sticking with it after work.
Some tower defense games just have an upgrade button for every single tower that just ups all of the stats.
Bloons is cool because of the paths: you must choose which buffs to give to your tower and its ultimate form.
It feels better once you know all of the crosspathings and small kinks of a tower, or a group of towers (paragons), which makes the game, alongside the constant updates, a good TD. It certainly is one of the best in the market, but I guess this game gives you more freedom, and the ability to just choose and stop ugrading whatever you want, whenever you want.
Nice find.
Another one that does the "Multi path" thing is Antbuster. God did I loved this old flash game. A sequel would've been nice.
I think a big thing that you didnt bring up about why bloons is so good is how much personality it has, so many of these TDs just feel a little... bland? like theyre missing a lot of theming, that "Monkeys shooting at balloons because reasons" brings to the table. Im willing to bet a straight clone of bloons with generic 3d models like this game would be 75% less fun, the aesthetic adds a lot of polish to the experience and thats often forgotten by devs
I don't think 75% of the fun of bloons is because of the theme, but it is a very significant part FOR SURE! A more relevant part is the interesting types of enemies and how it interacts with towers, and honestly, the biggest part of Bloons is basically the branching upgrade paths that give significant character to each tower, but also between the different paths inside the same tower!
That reminds me of the Sanctum series and the personality was definitely a large part of what made those games so compelling. It's been years since I played them, but I can still remember some of the weapons and levels in a way that isn't true for most other TD games.
What would a D&D tower defense be like would strengthened single class be better or muti classing be better.
@@Jonjon13Jonjon13 like how Plasma Accelerator is very different from Rocket Storm, which is very different from Bloon Area Denial System
Despite them all being 4th tiers of the dartling gunner
@@musicexams5258 exactly, and that's just 1 tower, which there's like what, more than 20 different base ones? or at least close to XD
For the first ten minutes I was eagerly anticipating the direction this game was going to take. Twenty minutes later I was _still_ anticipating the direction this would take, because it just doesn't go anywhere.
The mechanical towers in an outdoors environment had me fondly recalling Onslaught 2. There was a game with fun tower interactions. Even if the true endgame was just 'the longest unbroken chain of laser towers all charging one MEGA LASER' until the hp scaling went higher than the amount of terrain you could build towers on.
I've always wanted to see some TD with Tiered loot and upgrades with some complex branching skill trees to add an in depth customization level. Just something that after 5 hours in you could return to earlier challenges with a whole new approach.
Perhaps rogue tower?
A great tower defense I found, at least one I found interesting, was Enigmata: Stellar War. It's a bullet hell base builder, and while it doesn't have roguelike/roguelite mechanics it takes tower defense in an interesting direction. It's more developed on mobile, and sadly there's no pc version for steam, but I thought it might pique your interest.
Been playing this on Kongregate for years and you just made me realize it's on mobile, heck yeah
Played the old flash version years ago and have it in my phone now, play it sometimes.
It can be grindy too, also what's your pfp
36:36 Mindustry is kind of what you mean. You get a set area and you can build whatever you want and the enemies will just find the fastest path to the core instead of following a set path.
Hey wonder my man just wanted to let you know thanks for the good times so many videos a day and most go for over half an hour people said either quantity or quality and you’ve done both
As someone that runs a large community - moderation is absolutely important. If you look at any "free speech bastion" you'll find it overrun with the worst possible types. They will absolutely drive off positive engagement. You cultivate what you want, and you're not obligated to accept bad actors. So good on you.
there is an adventure time, bloons crossover tower defence game (bloons Adventure time TD) that has some intresting new things to mix up the toower defence formula if you wanna give it a try.
Cursed treasure 2 was my fave TD. Good gameplay and metaprogression
7 31 Polycore Defense 1
Yes, that's the title.
7 31 Polycore Defense 1
That's my naming/organization for my harddrive. Forgot to add the proper title.
@@wanderbots I figured as much. I think from now on we're all just going to continue stating
"7 31 Polycore Defense 1" over and over. You cannot stop us.

@@wanderbots do you have any favorite "just download and play" tower defense? There are quality differences in high cost vs low cost vs no cost.
Have you played Defense Grid? They are older games, but I think they are great tower defense games
These games really need fewer meaningful upgrades instead of many tiny upgrades. Who cares if I’ve got 35 1% damage increases, I’d rather have one double projectile upgrade even if it makes it fire at 1/3 speed.
Western Sigil seems like a promising game of TD. Hope they release it end of this year.
I don't think I've ever gotten to a video this quickly.
there was a game with unique upgrade trees for all the towers, additional modifiers and mazing tiles spawned per N waves. It was Hellement(?) TD, but it somehow was one of the few games I refounded =(
You had me at bloon styld
really needed some more first targeting later on, so many barely dead enemies hitting health because all turrets are on random/most hp targetting instead of targetting the biggest threat to health(aka whats first)
Hey wander long time viewer. Just wondering are there any plans to play with any of the old Scrap mechanic group?
Nope. We're not friends anymore.
Who did he play scrap mechanic with? He seems like it would be fun to watch him do multiplayer challenges or stuff similar to scrapman but he also does new games wanderbots has been on my watch list since I saw one of his videos for a bit now
@@midnightmistlol8930 I came here to ask the exact same thing.

@@wanderbots thank you! I love watching your videos and appreciate how interactive you are with your followers/fans.
For me the pick in TD games are the Kingdom Rush saga, they are so well done, both in their mechanics and visual style
The only thing in Bloons that (kinda) prevents splitting is the alchemist monkey which turns higher tier balloons into red tier balloons. Not exactly stopping splitting just skipping a few steps.
Also trojan and psi.
@@WintryFox If we're counting Psi, then druid vines as well.
i like how the towers look differnt depending on teh upgrades they have
I liked Sanctum's take on modernizing it. It would be similar to dungeon defenders but more true to tower defense and more fps in playstyle during waves.
"Web 2.0 was very afraid of moderation"
Web 2.0 was _very fond_ of moderation ! But a main problem is that moderation is full of bad actors and creates a hierarchy: we have the same problem in democracy where corrupt people rise to the top. Between the badly-trained AI, puritans among advertisers and a few other scandals, a lot of issues stem from arbitrary moderation from people who shouldn't moderate.
Peer moderation is the key, but again, we need moderation that itself gets moderated, to avoid the bad actors rising on top again. Maybe by some form of cyclic moderation or some controlled anarchic system ?
Tower Tactics: Liberation one of my fav TD games
Okay, so like...a tower defense where after every wave you pick between 3 to 4 random upgrade cards. The upgrades last the entire run. Meta progression for upgrading types of towers, not individual ones. Each tower can eventually split into specialization fitting what it always does.
Bullet Heaven / Roguelike Level up pick from 3 "cool" upgrades (with banish/re-rolls/etc), only a few "base" Tower types which you mutual upgrade paths like Novadrift while also making the Tower more unique, difficulty mutators you can apply before the round, each "map" has huge range of paths it can randomly pick from along with having some decent and thoughtful Meta progression.
so, the Yogscast covered the Beta for Fortnight and it was almost exactly what you wanted. a tower defense that was open world, Co-Op of up to 4 people, there current custom building system that there famous for. and then they just changed it too a battle royal in the last second
bloons doesnt have anti split stuff because layers are the health system rather than a HP bar and then death. a no splitting debuff would be almost as good as an instakill effect
I believe that the Dota 2 Arcade has seen the most development in the TD genre. The chinese TD games try wacky new things like building decks of towers and meta progression for each tower or mobs dropping equipment for the towers. The only real downside is that the translations are often rushed or not done at all.
i know this is a year old but i used to use bloons TD 1 as a web based stress test to see how stable my computer was every time i would upgrade or fix it.... once you have a filled the floor with super monkeys you can put it on auto and let it run..... i think a stable pc of its time would crash around level 175-200 where other computers would die long before that
So many of these look like phenomenal mobile games that don't have mobile apps lol.
My PC is a desktop, and currently rigged for VR and simulators (i *love* to fly), but it i could elsewhere I'd love to play this game.
Does "bad actor" have a different meaning now? I seen the mobile apps ads and yes those actors are bad but that does not sound like what you are talking about. Great game play there. Does this game have strong meta progression? You were doing well during the game. The game it's self seemed to hold you back form playing better with perks needed and level caps. But all in all enjoyable video.
18:25 copyright laws are good, until they are abused
How do you find all these games?
That map looks like reverse monkey meadow
is this free to play if so please share a link demo doesnt work on steam sigh might have bought it
It's not.
I think the sniper could have gone more central and you could have saved 100 gold per sniper by only taking the first range upgrade but not infinity.
Ironically 'let's plays' (and many other content on YT) would technically fall under the same category of copyright infringement if most publisher and developers wouldn't tolerate it ;-).
CZcams has just really weirdly obvious flaws in its automatic id-ing process
Example: Release a song on your yt-channel and sing it on stream on the same channel which has resulted in people getting copyright struck
Or the poeple being spontaneous or not thinking have copyright strikes against them for doing that. "O you playing a copyright song randomly copyright strike, you sing a song horribly but poeple recognize a song copyright stike"
Wanderbots remains woke as hecc. I love it here.
I somehow feel that wander forgot to retitle this video
In terms of mobile games, 99% are dogshit, the 1% are hidden gems you really have to look for.
Anti splitting in Bloons seems like it would ruin the difficulty it has as it makes all Bloons basically red Bloons except moab class Bloons
I mean, that’s essentially pierce on towers like the Sniper. Or do you mean an AoE effect that negates a bloon from popping into another (ex: green to blue to red)?
Paraphrasing what I took from what you said: "I kinda like this game, but I think it'd be better if they tore it down and started over from square 1 with a my personal design philosophy."
I'm trying to get into indie game development. At the baby steps level. I've essentially got this kind of feedback before. I found it painful and very damaging to my motivation. You're no longer giving any advice with a statement like that, you're just obliquely (if maybe unintentionally) saying that the game is bad and has no merits if the only way to improve it is to start over.
I will agree, there would be more tactics if each tower had to be specialty modified. Either modifiers are in limited supply so that you had to think about which tower got the upgrade or you otherwise were limited in ways that meant you had to build towers to fill specific roles. Make the module system an integral part of tower customization and not simply an alternative upgrade phrasing. If each tower is made to feel unique, either through "Dang, through trial and error I found a really potent combination" or the RNG of "what could make this tower even crazier", that would help set it apart. Though if you had absolute total control, you run the risk of half of players going to the closest guide, skipping the trail and error, and finding the game boring because it's already been "solved" by someone and there's nothing for them to actually do but follow those instructions until game win, and then fault the game for not doing enough.
Also, modifiers don't all, or even largely, need to be game changers. Double attack speed and infinite range sound cool and all/most towers sounds fun, but after a few rounds of totally OP upgrades and towers that likely trivialize the game, how long is it going to stay fun? I honestly don't get the sentiment that apparently all modifiers need to warp the play experience or they're just not good. Mundane modifiers have their place.
11:51 what is this song?
found it Big Giant Circles - Throwing Circles (feat. Ronald Jenkees)
I think you should RETURN TO MONKE It changed a lot during the last two years !
Would 7 days to die be considered open world tower defense? Lol
Bloons is much Easyer than it looks
I was rly hoping for a btd like game but the world/environment of this doesn't look that great which really makes me not want to play it, hope they improve it, I wishlisted it
wonder if Wander has ever played Arknights.
paradox of tolerance.. hm, this is quoting someone i know (paraphrasing a little bit)
person1>The paradox of intolerance is bullshit
person1>The whole thing is "you have to be intolerant of intolerance to build a tolerant society" but that's not what we building
person1>Right wingers present it as if it's some kinda gotcha in response to progressive policy and thought
person1>But we want acceptance, not tolerance
person1>We're not building tolerant spaces at all
person2>I'm confused, doesn't acceptance imply tolerance
person3>no
person3>see tolerance can include people that don't accept others
person3>aka bigots
person2>how does that differ from accepting bigots?
person1>"is a bigot" isn't an intrinsic property
person1>not like, being gay or trans
person1>or having a disability
person1>you always have the option of.. not being a bigot
if this makes any sense
Did someone say Tower defense
I'd say Tower Defense is a little old on PC because it's such a dominant gameplay format on mobile. It translates really well into Gacha, so it makes more to build a good Gacha tower defense.
Arknight?
@@kaitoyagami1664 There are more than I can count. Hero collection tower defense, card collection tower defense, idle tower defense, etc. etc. etc. If you want to play a tower defense game in virtually any genre and combo of setups, you can probably find it as either a primary game or a minigame.
I think you forgot to rename the video.
