Wild Camping | Galloway Forest Park | Loch Doon | Scottish Wild Camping | Wild Camping UK
An eventful wild camping experience in the Galloway Forest Park with a few CZcamsrs and some friends from my channel ensued. They were: Ayrshire Camper, Outdoor Ally, ASD Mum, Spaghetti Hoop, and a friend of the latter two, Peter. I found a cracking camping spot down at the banks of Loch Lomond and had the whole area to myself, including a nice flat spot. The midges were kept at bay thanks to a little breeze, it was warm with temperatures sitting around 18c, and it was an easy and enjoyable little wild camp. Scotland proving again it's one of the best wild camping areas in the world!
Another positive about wild camping at Loch Doon, is that it offers people with mobility issues to do some car camping. But sometimes we all need a bit of camping by the car as me personally, I do tend to become chronically tired after a heavy camping trip.

Anyone impressed with any of the tents? Thinking about getting any?
I would like your opinion of scafell 300 plus ,I'm checking Yr vids n canny find it👍
@@lornemcneil czcams.com/video/PY7HMHGO7GU/video.html
Scafell 200. I love it.
@@MontyOutdoors cheers checking now
@@MontyOutdoors still canny find it Yr link was a walking pole tent based design ,no worries ,what is the post called for the scaffell, I appreciate Yr response and time 👍
It looked like a laugh round that fire. Some good set ups but some midges getting in the tents too 🤣
Aye, up where they were had no wind and were being ravaged, but Deet came to the rescue for me :D
Doe your pub do food btw?
@@MontyOutdoors yeah deer is the best. Have you tried permethrin it's meant to be amazing too you spray it on tents and clothes though so better for skin.
Yeah my pub does meals only lunches though. We stop at 5 fri-sun and 3 during the week.
Allways a good watch trying to catch up been flat out last few weeks 😎👌⛺️🥰
Take your time mate. I was out in the kayak there and the video is up 😀.
Hope you're doing well and feeling better, sir.
Cracking scenery again mate
Thanks, Kev. I wasn't too impressed with the footage, but this comment - and others - have certainly changed my mind. Have you had the chance to get out camping?
Good video , enjoying the drone shots again , thanks to you and alan for inviting me , area was a bit too busy for my liking , but enjoyed the campfire and the company , looking forward to your next vid 👍🏻🏕
It was a pleasure meeting you again, mate. We will get another one soon 🙏
Great wee vid again mate...love my MSR Hubba Hubba, cheap tinfoil decathlon mat, Aldi self inflator...does a good job
Thomas! How you been keeping mate? Not heard from you in a while. Have you been out much?
I've heard of this Aldi mat. How many times have you used it?
@@MontyOutdoors Hi pal, been out with my lad..Loch Gra...(Galloway) last week...midges MENTAL!...biked in around the Forrest gates...Glencoe/Orchy/Etive few times...in the van😂(really busy now)...wee Aldi number is magic, bought it for the kid used it masel a few times.... Same spec as Vango 🤷 weighty but no bad...keep the vids coming mate.... loving the drone touch 🥳🥳🥳🏌️🏕️
Good video Monty looks a decent tent.
It's got a purpose, Steven. And it serves that purpose well. Had it out at the weekend again, so that's 3 on the trot. Vango is a brand I want to be associated with. Thanks for commenting and hope you are well, mate.
Great job with the drone Monty. Digging the pitch tent!
Thanks mate! If the place was more quiet, it would genuinely be one of the best places I've pitched a tent!
@@MontyOutdoors Yeah, we enjoy the quiet as well so understand that for sure!
I've seen a version of the nevis 100 on aliexpress which uses trekking poles for the ends and keeping the hoop in the middle pretty interesting. I've actually ordered 2 different tents which I'll be revealing soon 😉
Adam! What do you mean by "version"? As in another brand does something similar, or actual different version of the Nevis? As I haven't heard of the latter! Looking forward to the videos, mate. Will catch up on your channel soon. One hell of a week again! Wait to you see who appears in my next video. WORLD CLASS NAME. If you already know, then hush lol.
@@MontyOutdoors I did see on their Instagram profile man 😂 I won't say though hope you had a good one. The tent I saw was a brand called Yougle same style but uses trekking poles to pull the ends up. Pretty interesting maybe I'll get one just to review!
@@MrWildWales Still confused here, Adam! Was it the Nevis with an eyelet on the door? Vango does that a lot. I saw the Mirage with a groundsheet... but mines doesn't 😭
That water in the edge of the rocks...ahhhhh. only in Scotland, something about it.
I really need to start doing more footage of it, as lots of people have commented on it. What you think, mate? More water and rocks clips?
@@MontyOutdoors general waters edge stillness
Looked a gd camp m8 ..awesome drone footage again
Great video-thanks Monty. I know Loch Doon can be over-populated at times but it’s a great wee place to camp. You have started a really good and supportive community. 🏕🏴
Thanks mate! How have you been keeping? Any camps? And Loch Doon prior to lock down was actually ok, but thankfully it's significantly quieter than last year. We have built a great little community, but wait till you see the next video, some HUGE names in it!
Cheers again, sir. And thanks for the generous donations!
Good vid Monty! Was a pleasure meeting you! X
Was brilliant meeting you, Mark, and Pedro. Let's get another organised soon!
Thanks doing a week hike in a few weeks in the same forest this was helpful to see if I should go with hammock or tent ⛺
Beautiful place, beautiful panorama from the drone
Thanks Angela, hope you're well 😊
Nice vid! Did you know that when the Government first announced everyone must go in to lockdown, thousands of Scot’s arrived and entered the waters of Loch Doon!
😂💀
A perfect spot when there's a breeze you'll get it but the group above won't have any relief atoll. Cracking tent
Cheers John! Thanks for commenting and watching. Have you been out much lately? Still tagging along with Del, Colin, etc,?
@@MontyOutdoors not been out much just trying to lose another pound or two on the bike. But I mostly camp on my own I only film some camp's I like to keep busy forget to stop & setup for filming
Good video i enjoyed it :)
Thanks Ste! Were you out camping at the weekend?
@@MontyOutdoors nope not been out camping last weekend :)
@@stephenmallcollmessexuk1484 When is your next camp? Do you tarp/bivvy or use a tent? Or both?
Well done monty great video mate off to stincher bridge with mark and peter at the weekend with my new tent
Which tent now, Alan!? And looking forward to meeting up with you three again. Wouldn't mind getting drunk with those 2! Really jealous that I'm busy, but I'll see if I can maybe get a weekday camp in at the end of the month?
@@MontyOutdoors it's called a zenph two man tent it's supposed to be a four seasons tent it withstands winds upto level 7 mate I get it today
@@ayrshirecamper7040 I checked it out mate. Do a review on it!
@@MontyOutdoors I will do a review of it tomorrow when out with mark
Another nice video lovely location good drone footage nice to see you bringing like minded people together.
Glad you enjoyed it, Brian!
Some spot as ever ma man. Need to get me a proper tent. Not got a clue what to go for but plenty ideas here 😀

Thank you so much for viewing and taking your time to comment! Hugely appreciate the support. I hope you are well and take care 🙂
great video monty cannot work out where yous camped
Just up from the castle mate. But thanks for watching and commenting, sir!
Hi Monty! Nice little raised pitch there👍 The Nevis looks a nice little tent. A useful weight saving over a Banshee (not that they seem to be selling the Banshee at the moment anyway). Great vid!👍
I'd recommend the Nevis or Cairngorm 100 mate if you want loose weight carrying in. But loved my wee spot I had to myself 😄
Thats a lovely tarn. I could see spending a few days there myself. Any trout in the waters? Cheers Monty.
Hello young Monty, pity l has never seen the lady tree dance
Haha. How was the rest of your trip? Did you and Thomas have a great time?
@@MontyOutdoors well Monty l was not well we are going wild camping again where it might be a cabin? l might bring a young lady about 25 too young for me
@@johnrossSorbie I hope you get the woman of your dreams, John
@@MontyOutdoors They like tick want money suck me dry l got to be careful who your dating with,
Great video Monty, the drone footage adds so much mate. My only complaint (if I had one) would be is your videos aren't long enough. Look forward to the next one. 🕊
Thanks Danny! Yeah, I'm currently in the process of seeing what works and what doesn't work in my videos. Once I find out what works, I plan on extending the videos. I want to get good content in for you guys and to help the channel grow. Turns out cooking is a major one, but I can not be bothered cooking these days haha. Hoping to get a solo camp in as I feel guilty asking people to be quiet as I film.
Great vid, great spot. Mats are funny one. I have a Big Agnes that’s thicker, noisier and less comfortable than my Klymit static V mat. Thought it would be uncomfortable so thin being a side sleeper. ATB
I had a Klymit before and recall that design being the most comfortable. The honeycomb designs are decent too, but the Thermarest design isn't my thing, especially with their being zero support at the edges - unlike the Klymit. How do you find sleeping when camping? I struggle.
@@MontyOutdoors Depends on how many ales I’ve ridden to camp with! But joking aside, depends on the spot and if I’m solo or not. Winter camps are always better for sleep also, it’s dark earlier and later in the morning.
@@JamiedoesWildBikepacking My best sleeps come from closed cell foam mats and for the first time in nearly a year, I had a decent sleep at the weekend... but only because I climbed a munro and had been walking for hours! I rely on alcohol to put me to sleep...
God knows why I still go camping, as I suffer for days afterwards lol.
@@MontyOutdoors Sometimes after a 5 start, late afternoon when I’m flagging I wonder too! I sleep best under tarp rather than in hooped Bivi or tent. Think the fresh air is the key, but I’ve had many a morning with slugs and ants on my bag! 🤦♂️🤣
@@JamiedoesWildBikepacking Mate... I only bivvy & tarp in winter. Not a chance would I do it in warmer weather. Zero bug issues in winter. I did bivvy in summer once in Skye. Woke up with insects EVERYWHERE and midges absolutely mauling me.
Nice one Monty i haven't been to Loch Doon for years i used to have the Vango Nevis 200 it was a great tent i gave it to a friend getting into camping and he loves it, my current favourite tent is my Flames Creed ul teepee it fits 2 people no problem its a palace for one if you don't mind a central pole it doesn't have a vestibule for cooking but I don't mind that, it was £116 on AliExpress.
Aw mate, why not? And the Nevis is just ideal for a light camp, but I wouldn't take it up a mountain! Saw it fail in the wind, poor thing took a battering. I quite like a Teepee and want one where you can include a stove, but that's years away till I'm a millionaire haha. Have you had a teepee out in the wind? Thanks for commenting and watching mate. Appreciated massively.
@@MontyOutdoors i used to go down to Galloway all the time and took a break from the area and haven't got round to going back maybe next year. I haven't the teepee in serious gales but i was out solo and camped at Loch Arkaig earlier this year and it was fairly high winds 20+mph consistently gusting over 30 and it coped well glad i had the delta pegs though, i worried when i bought it and the Lanshans but they've never let me down. Atb Colin.
@@ColinOutside The GFT is the best spot for me at the moment, given how short a drive it is and the abundance of spots. I've camped in a few spots, Ballochling being the best, but I've still to cover a fair bit of ground. Looking for that ideal spot that's a few hours from the car, plenty of wood, and water. Those beach lochs up by the Merrick look great too. And interesting thanks. I've always wondered how they would cope in the wind, as I've heard conflicting reports on them. I suppose it depends on how well it's stitched, the amount of guy out points, etc,. Are you out this weekend?
@@MontyOutdoors unfortunately not i work every weekend but that means i get to go out during the week and its usually a lot quieter, i bivvy camped on the fife coast this week it was a great night.
@@ColinOutside I went camping on a weekday for the 1st time last month and it was great. No one at all about, so I do it once or twice a month now.
another good video..What drone do you have as the focus on it seems soft> also what memory card do you use for it as this will be the issue for some of the jerky stutter movement.
Thank you!!!
Right so maybe you can help. It's the Mavic Air 1, but I don't use a SIM I just save to the Drones internal storage as it allows for 10 minutes of footage - more than enough. However! I keep forgetting to delete old footage for new, so it automatically saves to my phone and I believe it drops from 4k to 1080HD. Is the jumpy parts maybe the latter? And would a SIM really help?
Thanks.
@@MontyOutdoors yeah a memory card would help, whatever the memory is in the Mavic the transfer rate is slower than the footage (film speed) being taken this, in turn, gives the stuttery or jerky film. So the film footage can only be transferred as fast as the internal memory can write to it. I use sandisk U3 Class 10 32 and 64gb. U1 means it's 10 MB/s; U3 means it's rated at 30 MB/s. Hope that helps it might also fix the softness
@@MontyOutdoors if you check out my channel I have just uploaded my first video of some drone footage, shot on the Mavic mini and use the sandisk U3 Class 10 32 and 64gb
