    Your patterns/builds are definitely up there with those of the best propmakers :) One suggestion about the patterns though. Wouldn't it be easier to have the markings for the inward/outward beveled cuts at the in- or outside respectively? Meaning a straight line for the silhouette of the piece and the dots/dashes showing where the bevel should end. Not sure if that made what i meant any clearer, but it would show better how much to tilt the blade than guessing how much 40 degrees is.
    Just a thought, thanks for the videos anyway. Keep them coming, and once again - Your patterns are great!

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před 2 lety +6

      Thank you! I understand your recommendation. The problem is that when cutting out the templates to transfer them on foam, you have to cut on the actual cut line so you'll lose the outward angle markings.
      The good thing with foam is that you don't have to be totally accurate with the angles. You can cut from 35° to 45° without any issues during assembly.

    • @GamingDad63
      @GamingDad63 Před 2 lety +1

      @@TristanMaker - You could cut at the outward angle markings and then bevel them to the silhouette line. I guess one could even make the bevels with a rotary tool if that felt easier

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před 2 lety +2

      That's true. It would be really helpful for using the rotary tool

    I recommend on the shins to use a trapdoor system like how patchbots does it’s so it doesn’t create a visible seam on the side

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před 2 lety +1

      I did some tests and unfortunately with foam it is hard to keep the shape using this technique. The zipper on the side was the easiest and fastest option for me.

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před rokem +3

      You can hide the seam from the stacked parts with flexible filler like I show in the painting video.
      As for the dremel, it just takes patience and practice. But you can make the surface smoother by heating it with a heat gun and rubbing it against a metal surface while it cools down.

    And another question. The superglue i use make the foam somewhat hard and brittle. I see you're using Gorilla superglue, that will not have that effect on foam, or?

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před 2 lety +5

      It does make the foam a little brittle at the seam, but less than the typical superglue that comes in small tubes.

    • @TristanMaker

      The way I did it was by cutting the front piece. Just follow the curve that the edge has instead of cutting it straight.

    Are you able to sit down for awhile without the armor messing up or creasing and stuff? And if you say use the heat gun to fix it, what if it’s painted, wouldn’t the paint get messed up?

    • @TristanMaker
      @TristanMaker  Před 2 lety +3

      It's hard to sit with this armor, but doable. But I wouldn't recommend sitting for too long as it might add cracks or folds in the armor.
      The heatgun method only works with certain sealing products. Watch Kamui Cosplay's video on priming eva foam to learn more about which product would be best for you.
