hi all! 👋
today i wanted to chat about a couple different social media platforms from an artist's perspective, and my own experience posting art on each. ultimately, i think the decision of which platform to post your art on boils down to the needs and preferences of each individual artist. i also feel it's advantageous to post on a couple of sites, especially if you're aiming to broaden your reach for your work!

@@Ultrikadrawznah, it’s not just you, Cara is never going to be a good platform for artists to grow because there’s no one else on it BUT artists. Unless it goes mainstream and has a significant increase in NON-artist users, it’s never going to be a viable platform. It’s fine for conversing with other artists, but that’s about it.
I’m interested in Cara. Is it good for uploading comic pages by chance?
As an artist, I reccomend for people Newgrounds. Why?
Here are why:
-You can do everything You want! (except some things, like racism, homophobia and ETC.) Like art, movies, songs, games and more
-Its highly interactive, it has forums, collabs, events, chat, so You can write with people.
-Its anti-AI. When moderation will see, that art is made with AI, it will be deleted.
-It has "Save and Blamed" system, so site isn't bin of awful drawings. Oh, and star system too!
The only con that I see, that is site is a bit edgy. So if You are young, don't sign in!
I don't know what to say more, but I'm happy, that I showed it. If someone wants to tell me something that I missed, I would be grateful. Bye!

Sooo just so everybody knows, Cara is still in beta. I think a lot of people forgot to mention this. So I'm guessing the developers didn't expect that much traffic. It's a bit much for them right now, and they're trying to get stuff handled. So I would say Unless you must post on cara I would wait to join. For the sake of the developers 😅

As someone who’s on Tumblr as a main, it’s the same for me- I can’t really post any oc art without it flopping HARD, but when I do post fanart it usually thrives. Which is what happened to me when I first posted there, (though it isn’t that big of a problem now as I’m now a multi-fandom artist) I personally think that it’s a platform that’s just mostly for fandom content, so it’s not as flexible, and you don’t get as much reach if you don’t draw much fanart in a lot of cases. But one thing that I like about Tumblr is how it doesn’t show the amount of followers you have, so there isn’t as much of a follower mentality there. It’s also easier to interact with your audience through like inboxes and all that. The people there are also mostly supportive with a few bad apples, but that’s most platforms. You can also filter through your post by using different tags which is pretty neat. But it also have a major bot and add problem, throughout my use I’ve seen a lot of nsfw adds that really shouldn’t be there, as well as bots sometimes invading people’s posts and what not. There’s also the fact that your following feed is usually flooded with reblogs and stuff, which some people might not like, though I personally don’t mind. But aside from that I think it can be a good site.
Sorry for this really long and messy comment, I just thought that I should give another perspective on it, as someone who mains Tumblr-
TLDR; Tumblr is fandom oriented, has a bot and add(nsfw) problem, but is also easy to interact with your audience.
And also loved the video, your art is so adorable!!
What some people do for the case of OC art not getting much attention, is combining OC art with Fanart. Draw your OCs next to characters from the fandoms you tend to draw, or make comics of what it would be if they knew each other. People usually tend to get curious like "Who is this? Is this a new character I'm not knowing of?" And they start to engage in your content a lot more just for curiosity, and may actually end up liking your OC after seeing so much of them.

I would definitely agreed with your point regarding to Tumblr beings seen as a sharing fandom site rather than an general art hub.
From my experiences with using the site dating back all the way to when I was 12 (mid 2016, wow I’m getting old), I’ve always judged it remotely to sharing and finding specifics fandom I was in at the time such as cartoons that were airing and video games gaining popularity ( Star vs the forces of evil, Trolls -2016-, Undertale, Steven Universe, and Miraculous Ladybug for prime things I was following at the time and between my teenhood.)
Even now, I think I’ll never separate myself from it’s originally intended to be used for and with my examples just emphasizing points of making yourself as a popular artist on Tumblr is focusing on fan content only, at least it’s not the worse thing in the world.
i agree! i feel like the culture of that site really favors fanart in particular, so artists who make a lot of fanart may have the most chance to get discovered. which yeah is not necessarily a bad thing it's just the way tumblr is xD

as someone whos on the art side of tiktok, i'd highly recommend NOT posting art there. tiktok is a veeeery slippery slope when it comes to the algorithm and it's a reason why most well known artists on tiktok are problematic, they add shock value to their content so their art is seen. i've only just recently came back to youtube and its such a refresher, this video was awesome keep it up!!! :)

Thank you for posting this video. I appreciate how helpful and positive you are. I stopped posting for a while on instagram. When I came back it seemed completely different and doesn’t suit my needs or wants as an artist. After years of instagram being my main platform I think I’ll be transitioning more to tumblr and Cara. Your experience makes me hopeful for Cara. I’ve had a tumblr for a while now but only recently started posting. The interactions are sweet and it’s easier to get seen compared to Artfol and twitter (in my experience)

my main has still been deviantart. well my main purpose with posting my art is for me personally lol i did that so i have a gallery i can look back on and just see all my works. me posting on other sites were because of needs. it started with school requirement, where we do commissions. i also wanted to have more reach, so decided to go with multiple sites. maybe i got too carried away lol i started creating accounts for several other platforms, including cara, my most recent account. so many, i decided to cut back and only posts on certain platforms depending on what i will post. like how i will only post in gamejolt if i made fanart from the gaming world (including gamers) or will only post in reddit when i made fanart from a certain fandom.
my main account will be deviantart, my gallery where all of my finished artworks will go. it is also my very first account, so i can't just separate myself from there, despite how bad it's gotten now. twitter will be my second, and will be where i could post my sketches and such. maybe i will make cara my third, where it will be both my art post and sketch post, cause like you said, i so far like the way you can direct if you want your post to be included in portfolio or not.

I agree with Tumblr about it being mainly fandom stuff. I feel like you gotta be pretty popular from other platforms already to get non-fandom art to be seen. I my most popular posts on there is fanart for a vtuber while my more personal/OC art doesn't get as much reach (then again I post once in a blue moon so that might play into it too lol)
I've never gotten into Deviantart, but from what I've been seeing and hearing, Deviantart used to be really fun. So I think I'll check out Sheezy and see how that goes :P

I also want to add , onto the instagram situation , instagram likely isnt going to get much from your artwork ! They kinda shot themselves in the foot with that , since the quality of images you can post at is so low 😭 im not very sure how great of an art generator they'd get with such low quality images .

Hi! I have an art technique question, if you don't mind answering. Around 2:18 you make such an even outline of white around your character which not only looks great but I imagine helps with filling in the color faster later. Where you using a tool with the line art or doing it by hand? Either way how did you get it so even?
Some art programs have this thing called "bleeding" that will add an outline of the chosen color around whats on the selected layer maybe they used that?
i used the monoline brush in procreate with the settings changed a bit to make the overall brush a lot bigger and manually traced around the character trying to make the white outline around it as even as possible, then i just color drop-filled in the rest of the shape after with white! it's sort of the "hard" way, i think there are more technically advanced and efficient ways to do it but when using procreate that's the easiest way for me personally to achieve that effect xD
Hi I am a small artist and I am not new to posting on CZcams and I am still trying to figure out what kind of videos I should post for my channels. The most that I did were speed paintings and it usually takes a month or more to produce one. depending on if and when I get an artwork done. But I am trying to expand my horizon with the platforms I am using and tried posting on each one. it's kind of tiring sometimes and can easily be demotivating to do so. Between balancing work and creating art is a struggle for me overall.

I actually hate instagram reels and the hashtags don’t work. The audience will be looking at the top posts instead of recent ones. For the reels, I heard from artists they get hate comments on it so I don’t want to use the reels and hate it. As a beginning artist, my art is not getting noticed 😢
Right now I’m trying not to give up because of the stupid reels and hashtags. It’s not gonna stop me from making art

for me tumblr is amazing for fandom spaces and im someone who only draws fanart LMAO but its different for everyone :P
FB is not bad for building a community too. If you have a decent luck ur friends will react to what you created everytime. Or you could share it to groups

Maybe start with short content? First a few clips on Shorts to get used to it, then u can go bigger.
Pinterest is a good one too!! Tho the engagement isn’t immediate but rather it gains traction overtime

i mean, pinterest is a feeding ground for stolen art, & more often than not others would assume that you’re just reposting and are not the artist without further research. not to mention it barely has a social fanbase other than memes and most fan art
oh yeah that is a solid point. i've heard of some artists having good experiences with it but the cons should definitely not be ignored ^^'

this is just my own art style that developed over time from seeing other art styles i liked while i was still learning to draw, and how my hand is naturally inclined to draw, like how a person's style of handwriting is developed! some art styles that had the most impact on mine are that of the anime tokyo mew mew and lucky star ^^

Tumblr has worse ads?? Girl it's so easy to tell what an ad is over there. Scrolling past them is not hard at all what are you on about lmao
@@CrystalRubyMoon it's not a matter of telling what's an ad and what's not? LOL it's about how intrusive they can be to the point where it ruins the user experience, like how they sometimes suddenly appear under where you're about to tap without expecting it. if ads behaved normally like regular posts like you claim, then yeah it'd be easy to scroll past them without a second thought and it wouldn't be an issue worth mentioning at all.
but it's not as easy to just scroll past them on mobile when they sometimes make the timeline glitch up, then ofc there's the ones that fill up the whole screen and you have to scroll really fast past them to not risk tapping them at all, and while scrolling the timeline on my laptop once the ads that kept popping up had my computer slow down fan start running and act odd, and got it to the point where the whole machine froze and i had to physically shut it down with the power button to restart it. i'm happy for you that you have better luck with nonintrusive ads but that's not my experience lol

i don't remember much about amino but what i do remember about my only experience with it was after downloading the app making an account and using it for a bit i ended up disliking it so much i literally deleted the app AND my account within an hour and i never do that. so it's not for me LOL😅 i also haven't really heard great things about it, but that's just my experience. i think it's definitely more worth asking someone who had a good experience with it tho!
My opinion, if you don't care about not getting that much likes i would go for it (normally because the communities wont be that big unless you risk yourself for the biggest ones and the annoying people), if you find a good community it will be a good experience, but whats the worst thing (apart of all the known nsfw) it's the amino servers, they stop working a lot and it's really annoying

i think tumblr is great for me bc i draw _only_ fanart and the community on there has been so sweet ever since i started posting! 🥹❤️ and i love interacting w ppl and getting excited over our favorite media 😸 it holds a very special place in my heart
