yes it is true we speak like at least 3 different languages everyday some have more problems with french (Luxembourgish, germans etc) but as a Portuguese Luxembourgish, I speak Portuguese , French, Luxembourgish, English and German fluently and sometimes even mix like 3 languages in one sentence that’s pretty commun here

As a luxembourger that grew up in the 1990s i have a huge respect for portuguese immigrants. My fellow portuguese-luxembourgers had a really hard time in primary school with german and no one could help them! But they didn’t cry, but worked twice as hard and today many of them are doctors, policemen, lawyers etc… compare that with the french who immediately want special french sections in school or put their children to lycee vauban. And then 20 years later they cry saying it is discrimination that they are not allowed to work for luxembourgish state since they don’t speak german and luxembourgish! Well french people: take a look at the portuguese and what hardships they went through without crying! Sou, dat huet lo mol missten gesoot gin ! Vive Letzebuerg an vive portugiesen !

240 million people can speak French fluently around the world. And last time I checked, there were only 67 million people in France (including the French overseas territories).
You're definitely NOT Luxembourgish. You're just an expat living in Luxembourg and you're pissed off because French is the lingua franca here. Not English.

You can't blame Luxembourgers for speaking French more than English. France is right next door, and there are probably more French-speaking foreigners than English ones. Besides, from what little I have seen, French seems to be used more as an official language than the other official languages of Luxembourg.
One more thing---if you're typing that message from a phone on a subway, then ignore what I am about to say. But if you are on a desktop computer, sitting at home with PLENTY of time, and your normal way of writing your native language is this:
"i isn't as cool as you think
im so bad at french but there are so many French People who always ask me for the Bus Lines or the Way
the Problem is you can only speak French in France"
Then FRENCH isn't the language you should be focused on learning.

people waste a lot of time learning languages there. it's confusing and i think luxembourg should be practical. choose an official language and thats it. english for 2nd language, of course. besides time, a lot of money is waste also into bureaucracy and regulations to keep the country multilingual. it's cool to know a lot, but from a capitalist perspective it's just a waste of resources that could be better spent producing wealth.

As a luxembourger i agree 100%. It should be luxembourgish and english. And i m sure most luxembourgers would agree, however imagine the shitstorm coming from the french, since in their mind we should all speak french.

Luxemburg would be a much more boring place then. The major attraction of Luxemburg is its multicultural identity. Otherwise, why don't we all speak English if cultural and linguistical diversity is crap? Ich bin Deutscher et j'aime beaucoup pouvoir parler les deux langues a Luxembourg. Y si me da la ocasión de hablar español mejor aún.

@@hannofranz7973 also, are we really multilingual country? We are not. In many official offices you cannot request luxembourgish and german documents. As a matter of fact we are not multilingual at all but unilingual francophone. 🤮
