Just to add. Played today at my course. Golf des iles borromees. Been raining heavily but today beautiful. On my own. Sun. Blue sky. First snow on mountains. Lago Maggiore looking wonderful. Startled a hare which scared the crap out of me behind an anerican /Italian four ball who clearly didn’t regularly play. Did it matter. Not one bit. Wonderful day all on my own. Andy. Keep doing what you’re doing. And if you tour Italy. Shout me.

I was fortunate to retire at 53 years old and play golf alone most of the time, as my buddies still work. I couldn't agree more; it is therapeutic when it is just you with your thoughts, memories, and beautiful scenery. I enjoy your cinematic style; it is like watching a documentary or movie. Great job, keep them coming.

      Andy what a great 10
Min video, and some stunning photography to show how glorious that course is.
When I play golf my mind focuses on the game in hand and everything outside of that in life can go take a hike. It’s the most de-stressing thing I think you can do for yourself. Having said that I put stress in myself to play well but it’s not like life’s stress.
I’ll play at 6 am some days 9 holes in my own just to get some play in at whatever pace I want to play at.
Looking forward to what’s coming from the channel

Never commented before Andy, but that change in pace and style really works, the camerawork and editing is first class. This video is as real as it gets as so many of us feel that way about the reason we play golf. A refreshing change from so much of the other golf channels out there.

Andy...I also enjoy playing golf on my own. I don't feel rushed and I can think. But it also opens up the opportunity to be paired up with people I have never met and 4+ hours is a great way to get to know someone. A few years ago I was paired with a man who was using golf as therapy as his wife was in hospital dying with cancer. It was an extremely different round of golf. The golf was good, but helping a brother in need at a time and with a person he didn't know was an added blessing. Golf can bring people together from all sorts of places and if we are willing, can bring us closer to one another, if we are willing to put ourselves out there...

Long time follower - Oregon, US. Loved the old format but the “newer & improved” version has me really excited. This episode really hits home because as a senior golfer, I more often than not find myself playing first thing in the morning and quite often playing by myself by choice. I dislike the “forced congeniality” when paired with others and my enjoyment of the game suffers and that shouldn’t have to happen. Please keep the episodes coming - really like to see yo at the Old Head course.

Greeting from Canada Andy. As one who retired last year and in my youth played and worked at a course your video "rang truer" for me than any other I'd ever seen. I took playing well for granted when I was young and, back then failed to see the spiritual side of the game but it was always there. Today, the journey has been letting go of my ego, reconnecting with a lifetime of memories and time to finally take in all the magic moments on the links. My wife and I will take our first golf vacation in the UK next year traveling to Wales to play some of the coastal courses. This was the first of your video's I've seen but I will quickly hit the like and subscribe button following this comment and wish you all the best. John

I have a few groups of golfers I play with each week, however I don’t think you can beat getting out on the course on your own. I enjoy the solitude and tranquility of a bit of twilight golf during the summer months. No rush, play at your own pace (on the whole) and nothing more relaxing. Keep your chin up, this new content is great and right up my street.

Hey Andy. It’s been a while since my last comment but as a very long time subscriber I think you’ve finally found your natural niche in the CZcams space. Your editing and excellent use of atmospheric music compliments the stunning visuals perfectly and has always been your stock in trade over the years in my humble opinion. Good luck in the new direction and as a solitary golfer myself I can relate completely on the mental and physical benefits that solo play brings. All the best. Gordon.

I may have stumbled across your channel along with many others, due to my thirst to better the experience I was having playing golf. You have been an important part of my learning journey, as I could always relate to your teaching skills and guidance along with your own perspective you brought to each particular segment.
However growth is perceived not only by numbers of people watching but also by the satisfaction that you have providing a thing of substance that both you and others will appreciate.
I'm looking forward to the new direction and will keep watching with anticipation, I hope that you continue bringing to us your own experiences, thoughts and perspectives and wish you the very best for the future.

This is a wonderful change to the usual golfing videos. I am 70 and took up golf 8 months ago. Although I have played a few rounds with others I find the solitary round suits me so much more. Those ‘Zen’ moments when the mind can empty and nothing else matters except the golf and the experience in that brief time, is cathartic. So great to see someone actually embracing that same feeling! I am not alone (so to speak)! Thank you.

You and I share a common outlook and today we shared similar golf experiences. I golfed alone, and at times I was probably the only one on the whole course. It’s getting cold here in Buffalo/Niagara Falls and there was even a few snowflakes floating in the air at times. The golf season is winding to a close for most golfers, but a few of us addicted golfers here know of the three courses here on my side of the border (one course) and two on the Canadian side that will stay open whenever there is more grass showing than snow covering it. And we will meet at these courses, dressed warmly, and enjoy golf with other die hard golfers, who will come from an hour or more away. Golfers who never get enough golf and love golf whenever they can play.

Andy - lovely video and captures a lot of what we all do as golfers. It can be a soulful or soulless experience sometimes but we keep coming back because of the challenges, vistas, company and simply just playing. We all are on individual golf ‘journeys’ in life but also it’s a collective experience in the roll up’s, competition 4 balls or societies. If you can play this great game regularly you are ‘blessed’ with something indiscernible in life. Friendships, memories, competitive moments, disaster and glory. And you can play with any level of ability on a level playing field. Come down to Sunningdale Heath where you can play 18 holes in around 2 3/4 hours and I bet you won’t play to your handicap ! I have to say that was a truly lovely piece of art, capturing a wonderful golf course perfectly and really striking a note with me personally with the golfing alone vibe. I’m not anti-social or introverted but I do really enjoy being alone on the course. It helps my mental state and is complete escapism. Yes I enjoy playing with friends and competitively but my favourite golf, is golf on my own, with nature and with my thoughts.

Andy - your videography is still gorgeous - the thing that drew me to your channel in the first place. Your visual ability is still one of the best. I love the way you place the golf course ahead of yourself - it's where the hierarchy of importance rests with me also. I love to be awestruck by where I play, as I suspect most golfers do. That we can golf amidst great vistas and views is the joy of this game, even when a course beats you up.
Totally with you on the 9 holers. Every year when I organise a trip with my friends we always have a 27 hole day made up of an 18 and 9 hole venue, and I've yet to play a nondescript nine hole course. They are much maligned for no other reason than snobbishness. All power to you going forward. I look forward to your travels and to you showing me more great courses to play.

Andy, I admit I didn't think I was going to enjoy your new format, but this video gave me goosebumps... a great reminder of the things that matter most. It's easy to get caught up in the never-ending battle to get better at golf, and in doing so, we often miss out on the enjoyment of some of the most beautiful places on earth. Reminds me of a round of golf I played last December. It was 38 degrees with a light mist in the air. I decided to bundle up and walk the mountain course near my home. I was the only one on the course. Everybody was burning their fireplaces, and every hole looked like a Thomas Kinkade Christmas card. It was a round I will never forget.

Incredible video. My competitive days ended when I was 50…15 years ago. I still play more golf than most, mostly with friends with a little wager made each time out. Win some and lose some. The journeys that golf has provided, however, are what makes golf special. This video just put a big smile on my face reminding me of that. Thanks.

I’ve only just started watching this channel and I’m glad it’s come at this time - what you’re doing now feels much more sustainable and honest. Love a bit of sarcasm, and love the solitude of a round of golf, alone with the dog ❤

Followed you for years and you've definitely made the right decision. So many golf channels are the same with too much emphasis on expensive products together with detailed swing techniques we can only hope to emulate. This reflective semi-documentary and scenic format, together with your genuine delivery style is a winner for me. Keep up the good work!.

Great video! You really showcased the quality and serenity of a round at Wallasey. Such a good course, one I’ve had the pleasure of playing, many times.
I enjoy playing solo golf. I can suit myself….play for 3hrs, particularly if I’m working on certain techniques, or get 18 holes played in 2hrs using my golf cart.
Keep up the good work 👏👏👏

This is good stuff. Although I have a playing partner that I really enjoy and have a really good time on the course with, I miss my alone time walking the course. You just reminded me that I need to do that way more often. Sometimes you don’t get to feel the beauty of nature and the beauty of the game until you’re by yourself - just you and the challenge of the course.
    Thank you.

I turn to CZcams and channels like yours as I am an avid golfer. At the price points today, you can only afford to change clubs so many times. The content with your reviews is always great. But that’s not why I watch you. You are entertainment and fun to watch. I can relate with our ages similar and our interest similar. I’ve become a big fan of Iona, and I look forward to watching your videos. Thank you for the time and posting them.

Thank you Andy for putting this together and allowing us viewers a bit of an inside look at a fine golf course as well as your thoughts of the game. Much good luck going forward.

Hey Andy, greetings from Canada! I’m with you all the way buddy, I play a lot of solo golf, not by choice but at age 60 it was hard to be out on the links by myself for the first while but it kind of grew on me after the first dozen rounds and some of the peace and relaxation started to set in and I realized that this has a purpose. Midway through the seas and I did connect up with some new golfers and made some new friends and I really enjoyed being with the group again. However there still was rounds sprinkled in there that were played solo, and I viewed them in a different way and I actually enjoyed it very much. Look forward to all your future videos… Keep on pressing on! 👍

Your comments about hitting an iron flush resonate with me. Our season just ended here in Ontario Canada and the last few rounds were made more difficult by the local weather conditions. Playing just for the pure love of this game and hitting a flush shot that might not end up where I expected it to did not matter to me. I knew I hit a good shot. Now hitting a bad shot and getting away with it didn't upset me but there wasn't the enjoyment of knowing you flushed a shot. I enjoy this video and wish you well on this journey.
